Mizuno MP-37 questions

Just won a bid on a like new set of mp-37s with s300...........

Currently, I am gaming titleist 690.mb's with r300. They are just not very soft at all to be perfectly honest. Will the 37s be as butter soft as the mp-68's i hit about 6 months ago? From what I am hearing the mp-33s are the holy grail of mizzy's, but I could not find a set in like new condition. How will the mp-37s compare in feel to the 33s and 68s? The 68s felt like I hit a stick of butter, i don't see how a set could possibly be any softer, but I guess they are out there (miura and scratch).

Also, has anyone bought a set of black oxide(chrome) mizzy's without serial numbers? I was about to buy a set off ebay for around 500 but the seller said the refinishing process took them off ?!?

Sorry i cant compare the 37´s, but i got a set of 33s cheap with s300 and i was playing 67s with Project X before (but they slowly came apart). I have to say, i liked the feel of the 67 a touch better on flush shots. But i think this has quite a bit to do with the shafts. I had the 67s with s300 a long time ago and compared to the Project X i preferred the Project X.

But in general you cant go too wrong with Mizzys.

I've had 2 sets of 14's, a set of 29's, 33's, 30's, 60's, and 37's (still have the 60's and 37's). My LEAST favorite of all these have been the 30's and the 33's - I know a lot of people like the 33's but I just found them to fly too high (w/ DGS300's) and distance control was a real problem. I think the 37's are superb, but I have to say that my 60's have more of the buttery feel than the 37's do for some reason. But the 37's are still awesome. So, between the 37's and 33's, I'd be happier with the 37's by a bunch - just my opinion...

Also, you have to be careful with the black oxide versions on ebay. I inquired about one set some time ago (I think they were 37's), and I asked what the resulting swingweight was after the chrome was removed and the black oxide treatment was completed - he told me they were about C-4 - end of interest right there!!!

Well, The MP37's are a fine set . They are not as satisfying as the 68's. Both are
soft. but the sole grinds are different. I still keep an eye out for 33's, 37's, and 29's.
They were all nice, but they were all different in there own way. I have gamed each
of these sets and the 67's. Each of the clubs have their own feel and playing
differences. The best way for you to compare, is take a few of the your 37's to
a golf store and try some 68's with them. It won't take long for you to see and feel
the differences that I am talking about. Good Luck !!

  • 3 weeks later...

Thinking about picking up a set of 37s because I like the compact head and the taller heel (from what I can tell from pictures and reviews). I can't find a set around my town to check them out in person, so could you describe the sole on the 37s? I like very little bounce, as I am more of a picker. I'm playing the MP-9 now, which seem to go from about 0 degrees bounce in the 3 iron to perhaps 3 or 4 degrees in the wedge...

Never was fond of mp 37s. The soles were not the right fit for my swing.

i've been playing the mp 37 for a few weeks now and have played the 30, 32, 33, and 67 in the past. IMO, the 37 is definitely the best. more compact than the 33? hardly. i really don't think they are much less forgiving than either the 67 or 33, which i found to be very similar. the 37's have the most solid feel-- i can only describe it as "meaty". the clubhead is just so thick, and there isn't a hint of a "click" sound/feel. the 3 iron is unreal-- perfect ballflight and feel. perfect clubs.

but yes, the offset difference is a little weird to see at first, but once you play a few times you won't even see it. and let's be honest, a hundredth of an inch more offset in the short irons than in the long? who would notice the difference in playability?

Serial numbers on Mizuno's from that time were imprinted on the ferrules. Any re-shaft work (after-market) would require new ferrules meaning the serial numbers would be taken off.
