Picked up a Nike IC 20-20 for £39, it certainly isn't going to win any beauty contests but it has made me sell my scotty cameron squareback and the odyssey tour black series No 9 is on its way out as well. I play with what ever makes putts, I am certainly no putter snob and to be honest the ugly putters seem to work better for me!

Oddly enough - yes it is. Current Ping Anser 2 is keeping 3 other Camerons out of the bag. I think I paid about 30 quid for it.

Does discounted premium putters count? I just bought a $60 Cleveland VP Milled #1. Gives me a better roll and feel than my $200 bought SC Studio Style Newport 2. The Cleveland was $150 when it came out. The Studio Style was $300.

Right now I am playing a Nike Unitized Tiempo that I got off ebay for 35 bucks... Love it. I've putted with Methods and I am really not sure if if they are much better IMO. Still looking to get a 001 if one comes around for the right price though.

Thanks again for all the feedback... I started this topic after paying attention to what the best putters i have played with are gaming. Not one of them has any sort of cameron, mills, machine, bettinardi, method, odyssey black milled, ping redwood's... etc, but plenty of hacks i have made the rounds with do. But i do see a ton of no name beaters, or old cast putters, and none have a headcover, just battle scars. Makes me think that the pricepoint for niche putters equates to fancy rims on a car, just eye candy, if it rolls it rolls.

I' am also guilty this... coming from an owner of a mills, and a bettinardi, along with 6-7 bargin bin putters. The former never see any green time, look for them on the Buy Sell forum soon.

I will give you two examples:

1. I bought an old MgBr Anser off the internet, about 5 years ago, with the intent of adjusting the lie angle as an experiment. I was going to make it flat for kicks, since I saw an 8* flat putter in a shop and made everything with it. I wasn't planning on 8* but maybe 4 to start. When i got the putter ($25 in cost to me) it was already 5* flat!!! IF I had wanted a standard Anser putter I would have been mad, because the seller did not mention it. But it worked out great because if fit me like a glove. I still game it and I've been trying to replace it with something more "modern" for two years.

Even cheaper.
I bought a Rife center shafted two bar mallet 3 years ago. Dad came over and borrowed it within the first week I had it. It's been in his bag ever since.
So for him, that FREE putter was the best he ever used.

I broke out my 25 dollar MGBR My Day this weekend... Chalked up 1 three put over 18 holes. Nothing has the mojo of a great used putter. If this trend keeps up, i may go all the way back to my Bullseye flange.

My Ray Cook original BG (Blue Goose) II. It was free because someone was tossing it out. All carbon steel with floating face and a Scotty Cameron design. Can't beat it

I have a Scotty np 2.6 and a seemore mfgp and I have been gaming a Wilson staff kirk Carrie 2 cs all season it was 35$ on the bay about a year ago I love that thing great flatstick

use a Bobby Grace DCT Sunset putter I paid $30 for, have made more birdies than I can count with it,

definitely more than all my other putters combined which include a SS NP2, PP Newport midslant, and a Circa 62 #2

 

also use an old bullseye putter from time to time.

Yes my "cheapest" putter is my best one. Long story short, plumb necks don't suit my eye...at all. I've been looking at the Newport 2.5...and Laguna 1.5 in recent days and finally the other day had a chance to demo one. I took a Laguna 1.5 and a Cleveland Classic #3 to the putting green for 30 minutes. (gave the Cleveland a shot due to price point) Also had what was my gamer, Circa 62 #6 in the demo.

I took the Cleveland Classic #3 home....for $63....HANDS DOWN!! It won out on all accounts: feel, look, weight and design. Cleveland Golf really has something special there.

got a Never Comp Z/I Sigma center shaft in nice shape with a nasty grip for $20. Put on a GP Players Softie I had and it's been in the bag ever since.

when i was growing up i had a ping anser 2 and a white hot rossie. not the most expensive but a fair price for a 12 year old. i got a tiger shark for 20 to try out the big grips and i loved it. i used it for a few seasons before going back to the rossie. its all about look and feel, price is nothing

How about a Northwestern "J.C. Snead-409" putter picked up in a Consignment shop for $3. Yes, that's THREE bucks, not a typo. I need to regrip it before spring (still has the original brown Northwestern grip, cracked, hard and peeling), but I gamed it the last half of last season. It bumped an Odyssey out of the bag. I like classic putters, and at that price I couldn't pass it up!

I agree with your statement. On fast greens I love my $375 Byron Morgan Mystic Pearl, but on slower greens I play a Bobby Grace GT-mini I picked up for $40.
