.370 tip into .335

Probably not the best idea to bore out a thin walled .335 to .370---although it is possible. Better would be bore to a .355 and shave the .370 down a bit--it's a thick wall shaft. BEST would be to by the correct shaft....

I do this a lot on the Cobras for instance, but always by reaming out the hosel. It needs some care because if you go too deep you'll have an accidental bore-through and if you go crooked you'll have at least bad loft/lie and at worst structural weakness. The reaming clamp sold by GS and GW, and a drillpress and reaming bit (and a good cutting oil) make it pretty simple though. No failures so far here, but it's definitely a little scary the first time.

Are you sure it's a .335 tip? I thought most hybrids were .355 or .370. In any case, reaming the hosel is the way to go.

Yea me too, I've reshafted a ton of hybrids and I dont think I have ever seen a .335. What kind of hybrid do you have?

I have sanded down Graphite .370 tips to fit in a .355T head with no problems. Just took my time and kept checking the tip size with my caliper until it was close.

I know a lot of the Golfsmith heads use a .335. The only hybrid specific shafts I have seen with a .335 tip are, you guessed it....Golfsmith shafts. I've always used a heavy wood shaft instead of the limited options for a hybrid shaft.

Hi all,

first of all, this is my first post, so apologies in advance for any mistakes etc. This is a great forum and I thought it is about time for me to contribute

Anyway, I am in a similar situation and would appreciate your advice

I am playing a Cobra Baffler Pro 18 hybrid, and I am pretty sure it got a.335 tip size

I am looking to replace the stock Fujikura Speedster shaft (got a feeling the tip is a bit too soft), and having a hard time finding a reasonable hybrid shaft for this tip dimension.

Is it worth experimenting with a heavier shaft intended for Fairway woods? I assume those shafts are designed for lighter heads...

Thanks

I had some quickstrike hybrid heads that I put a V2 hybrid shaft, .335, in.

Can a .370 tip shaft fit into a .335 hybrid?
If so, what needs to be done?

Thanks for your help!

I posted a similar question to Jeff Summitt over on the ask Hireko forum. He responded with: "It is not possible to install that shaft into the .335" hosel without reboring the hosel. "

Try a Fujikura Banzai Hy shaft that comes in .335.......great cheap shaft and a great starting point instead of buying a .335 Driver or FW shaft and attempting to make it work.
The Banzai Hy .335 is not the normal 46" uncut, but I think it comes 42" instead. I have an extra, let me know. That shaft and the Matrix Altus have been the best two Hy shafts to date for me.....play em both.

Yes, my favorite hybrids (Cobra Baffler & Cobra Baffler DWS)! I'm not so sure I'm up for the drillpress/reaming out the hosel. @Awalkspoiled Do you still do this and/or do you know anyone in the Virginia area that may be able to do so? Thank you!

I was nervous too, but all the research I did suggests it's a fairly doable DIY repair. I'm actually about to try doing this with a few clubheads: 2 hybrids reaming from 0.320" to 0.335" (they're ladies hybrids I'm repurposing for an avid senior golfer) and some wedges reaming from 0.355" taper tip to 0.370" parallel tip. The golf component and clubmaking site GolfWorks sells the equipment to do this and it'll only set you back about $40-50, and then you can use it as often as you want until the reamer wears out!

All you need is: 1) a spiral fluted reamer for the tip size you want the club to be, 2) a chuck handle to do it by hand (or a drill if you prefer that method), and 3) WD-40 or similar product - you pour a little in the hosel to make the process go smoothly. Doing it by hand makes it harder to mess up, and the benefit of reaming vs. drilling the hosel is that the reamer won't affect the angle of the hosel. It doesn't reduce the weight too much either, and as long as you don't attempt a drastic hosel size change - like 0.335" to 0.370" - I doubt you would damage the integrity of the club. Here's a video that shows this process:

Wishon designs his hybrid heads to use a .335 shaft. He wants that due to a lot of golfers needing that extra help in launch. He used to offer the reaming service and (I think) he would sell the tool to do it as well.

your choices; buy a Wishon hybrid shaft that fit your needs better and do no reaming at all

Ream it to .370 which would be easily accomplished by anyone with some good mechanical ability.

if you ream it to .355 you’re actually only reaming the bottom 1/2”-5/8” to .355. The upper part of the hosel is .370. So it would be a 2 step sort of ream
