the guy could be in on it, usually thieves make sure they have someone to watch their back, or at least cause a distraction at the counter

Some follow up information on this case. The suspect has been identified by a Detective from an area Sheriff's Department (I have omitted the name and contact information of the Detective) and the Detective is looking for more information. :

It sounds like the dude was basically finding out the name of PGA pros, using their identity to play free golf, and then stealing from the pro shop.
