The Beta is a mid launch, higher spin version of the RIP. It is softer in the tip and slightly higher in torque than the Alpha. The RIP Alpha as you know has done tremendously well on tour. But, it is a bit too stout for the more moderate swinger, so Aldila designed the Beta. Additionally, because of the Alpha’s very low torque and stout tip, it didn’t have a whole lot of success in fairway woods – the ball simply came off too hot for most players in the fairway woods. Dustin Johnson is one of the few players that have had success with the Alpha in a fairway wood. The Beta is testing extremely well in fairway woods on tour, as well as drivers.
