Might be moving to AZ..

Recommended Posts

I am possible relocating to Glendale, AZ. I am looking to figure out what kind of golf I will be looking at. I know that Phx has many golf courses in the area, so that is a plus, not to mention the PGA courses. My question is, right now in Oklahoma, I can play on the weekends at some really fun, nice courses for abt $30-$50 bucks, and thru-out the week abt $20-$30 bucks. So my quesion is, for a round with a cart, at a nice course, abt what would the average price be. Also right now I play in a Men's League at our Local Muni course. Anything like that in or around the Glendale area? And since I will be playing out in the heat, anything I should expect, or maybe prepare myself for? I am trying to become an elite golfer, so the sound of year round golf pretty much, sounds really good to me.. Also last quesion, Any really good places to get instuction at in Phx/Glendale area?

Thanks in advance, any info and input is appreciated...

During the summer, you'll have access to TONS of courses in your area for that price range. It goes up considerably in the winter months. Others who live in the area can post specific info as to what courses are by you(your possible crossroads will hep, as PHX/Glendale is a pretty big area)/

As far as a teacher up in that area I can suggest, I would say Andy Patnou up at TPC scottsdale.

Mission just browse around here and check out the NW Valley section to get an idea. There are quite a few courses to choose from. you wont have too many sub $50 rounds November through April, but once May hits the prices start dropping and you can play almost every course in the valley for $50 or less. Not sure if a membership is a possibilty but you may want to check this out http://www.golfwrx.c...-course-layout/ Very solid course with a ton of very very good players to play against. Lots of great instruction out here, you may want to check out Andy; TaylormadeAp25 is his golfwrx screen name. He has done some great work with a few of the other board members and is working out of TPC Scottsdale now. As far as the weather goes I guess it is something you just get used to overtime. The first few 100° days of the year always suck but by the middle of the summer its just another day and you get out and play early and drink plenty of water and G2

Ha Mark beat me to it, but that is the same Andy I am talking about

^^^ sweet thanks for the input. I have hear that the phx/ surrounding areas have a great golfing community.
seems from the post on here, quite a few ppl from that area on here. Would be nice to be able to meet up in person with some wrx'ers who share the same passion for the game.. thanks again for the input, will check out all that info!

There are quite of few of us out here, we get together 2-3 times a year for outings and such and quite a few of us play regular rounds together. One of the best things I ever did for my game is started playing with guys from golfwrx that were much better than me. I learned so much by watching them manage a course and my handicap dropped very very rapidly. If you end up out here by all means keep your eye on this section to see what is going on or feel free to Pm me and we can set something up.

Instruction: DEFINITELY go see Andy. If you are looking to become a GREAT player, do it as soon as you're in the area. I just went over there the other day and I'll be going back for sure.

Courses: Lots of good ones to play on the west side of town. I work on Luke AFB and the Luke course is pretty nice, especially for a military course. There's a gaggle there on Saturday morning. I have yet to play in it because I live in Chandler right now. It's a long commute, but I'm having a house built in Verrado and should be moved in by mid-June. Once I move to the west side, I'll be playing the gaggle a bit I think.

There's also a group that plays (haven't played with them either, but met one guy and he seemed cool) at The Raven at Verrado which is a really nice course (they threw in a membership when I bought my house :) ).

A lot of golf in AZ is desert golf, where you do NOT want to be hitting it out of play into the scrubby desert. Scraggly trees and *****ly cactus is pretty much all you find out there...oh and rocks which are not good for your clubs lol. Oh yeah...and scorpions and rattlesnakes haha. Actually, I have yet to see a rattlesnake on the course so they aren't all that common to run into. And that's assuming you even find your ball. But there are some non-desert courses here. One on the west side is Wigwam. They have three courses. The red is pretty much a parkland course. Lots of other courses around too: Palm Valley, Copper Canyon, Golf Club of Estrella, etc.
