CUSTOM PUTTERS

TP MILLS

I ordered this custom TP MILLS during a UK event. Was nice of the rep (Paul) to come by and fit me for one of their products. Great guy and very knowledegable. What we ended up with was a face balanced SoftTail at 33.5" in a stainless steel finish. Now this is where it got interesting...

As opposed to a centre shafted face balance we went for a goose neck hosel giving face balance. This is where the hosel is located near the heel but bends towards the centre (shifting weight) and out to give the offset. Basically you look down the shaft at the centre of the putter. The hosel adjustment wasn't necessary if I went for a different head but I fell in love with the soft tail head which isn't good for face balance etc. due to toe heavy and so Paul came up with this way of fitting the putter with my straight back-straight through stroke.

Make: Custom TP MILLS softail with crazy neck
Loft - 4°
Lie - 7° flat
Length - 33.5"
Finish - Stainless Steel

My second custom Slighter. "The Sponge" by Tom Slighter. Custom made putter based off Toms' new release the Portland. I requested for the edges to be more rounded so as to have a anser/009 look to it from address. I also asked for a slightly dull finish compared to what he usually produces and he came out with what you can see in the pics. Quality control is absolutely fantastic as was the whole design process. Very efficient to responding to my endless requests and also very accommodating regards my designs.

Loft - 4°
Length - 32.5"
Finish - semi glass bead blast/pro platinum

Those US Specs have to be the one set of irons that I have always wanted to Ho! I have sat and watched the Ebay sales end with myself unable to pull the trigger. I think Bruinduke had one last year up on Ebay that had me watching and watching. :( Really a beautiful set of irons. One day when all goes wrong with what I have I'll take the plunge.

Rob how do you like the FST?  I've been debating picking one up but was wondering how the distance/feel  is with it.

4071[/snapback]

At address for me, it doesn't really give me confidence since it is such a deep face. Something which I am not used to. I don't get a much feel from the club, for example when I strike it, I get quite a hollow tingy sound. Distance though is awesome.. That's the only reason why I am prepared to give it more time. I am hitting it much longer about 10 yrds or so longer + roll than the Cleveland launcher. Super long on the tee.

I'm going to conclude by saying this is def more of a driver alternative rather than a fairway wood [imo].

Hope it helps.

Rob

P.s. check out the BST for this club in the near future .

Ok, so now I have tried the 905T both models I listed above. The 652ex had a solid feel but it was going left on me. I felt I was swinging ok and my bud said my swing looked fine as well. Anyway, the club totally fits my eye at address. Not too deep or shallow, very nice. The NV felt a little boardy. I was hitting this about the same as my normal driver [tourstage mr23], distance wise. The 652ex combo was slightly longer, marginal difference from about 25 balls. Only problem, it was going left.

The white steel putter felt real nice and soft, distance control was a bit wayward but due to this, I would hesitate to put this into play. I did find something which has made me change... my custom Slighter Tacoma. There has been a lot of talk recently on BSG about Slighters so I took my custom one down which I had retired a while back. Spent 20 mins with it and fell in love with it again! lol ... It's back in the bag.

The 904F have still to come, so will post a review when they get here and I have had a go with them.

Thanks for the comments. No, I don't play for LSU. I needed a new grip and saw this one on ebay, liked the colour scheme and bought it.

The 52* ball marks - thats just down to selective cleaning!!! j/k :) Seriously though, this wedge just sets up perfect for me, visually. I just can't stop hitting balls with it.

I use the Nippon NS PRO 950GH shafts in my irons, they feel soo smooth with the 704.cb. A great combo in my opinion for someone who has a "smooth" [and I use that term loosely] swing.

You may want to try out a TM Rescue Dual hybrid - I really like mine, I never have any feeling other than total confidence when I pull it out of the bag.

I'm also trying a new Cleveland Halo since the testers in Golf Digest rated it higher than the Rescue Dual...whichever one I like better is going in the bag for 2006!

I've just shafted up a rescue mid tp with a fuj904hb shaft. Lets see how that works out.

How do you like the new Lamin grips. I have yet to change my grips this year and was looking for some feed back on the Lamkins...

The torsion control grips on my clubs now are really tacky and do feel ultra soft, however I must admit they aren't very durable. I've had them for a few weeks now and I hit about 400 balls and play 2 rounds of golf per week approx. They are beginning to fray, with a bit of the grip wearing away already on the 7 iron.

I'm going to switch to the slightly harder black torsion control tour grip and see if it wears better.

Very nice bag! Gotta say I really like the 704's. Don't see or hear too many hyping them, but a really solid set of sticks.

Great bag is clubs you have there. But interested in what you have to say about the Monza Corsa putter im thinking about picking one up i love the looks of it and all that. Again great bag of clubs.

The Corza rolls the ball really well. It has a nice solid feel, not too soft which is a rare because of the insert. The way it frames the is also perfect for me. If you feel you need a mallet, def check out the Corza line of Rossa putters.

Nice on with the Matrix Ozik. I've seen them on Tour and heard good things about them but how do they play? Comparing them to an Aldila NV, what's the main difference?

Thanks for the comments. For me, the Altus has a bit more kick at impact, launches the ball higher and also the ball releases and rolls a mile compared to the NV. Don't get me wrong, the NV is a great shaft [heck, I still have one in my 4 wood] but the Altus flat out performs on another level.

Before the Altus set up, I had the Matrix OZIK TP-7 in play and that launched the ball a mile high but it would just land, no roll whatsoever.

When I have some more cash, I'm definitely looking to the Matrix line for my 4 wood set up.

Right guys & gals... I haven't updated this in a LONG time. I think it needed to be done as most things have changed (surprise, surprise :) ) So check out my original post for what is currently in my bag.

Out goes the lime green altus and R7 425 tour set up.

OUT goes the Titleist 690.cb tour.

IN comes a very retail but amazing driver in the FT-3 and bog standard NVS shaft.

IN comes a set of Callaway tour X TOURS with the much sort after T grinds.

IN comes a Vokey 400 series tour wedge.

Finally, what I have been waiting 10 weeks for and the newest piece of equipment in my collection [drum roll]... I give to you my new CUSTOM Tom Slighter PORTLAND!!!

Head - PORTLAND. I also requested for the bumpers and edges to be more rounded off ala Ping Anser and Scotty 009 mixed together.

Loft - 4°

Lie - 3° flat

Length - 32.5"

Finish - semi glass bead blast/pro platinum

Once again Tom was a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail and desire to get everything as I wanted was fantastic. I think he translated what I wanted into an actual putter very well. Thanks again Tom.
