Finally played Wyncote this weekend (after 2 rain outs) and I can honestly say it was my most enjoyable round of golf all season. A wonderful and well balanced course. 18 is quite challenging if you never played the course before.

Glad you enjoyed it. Of all the holes, I'm not sure if I would have pointed out 18 of being quite challenging though.

It was the second shot that got me. I hit driver to the middle of the fairway about 170 out and really didn't know where to go after that. I knew it was up to the right but couldn't tell from the picture on my gps just how far right it was. As I was playing a competative match I couldn't ask for advice and ended up guessing where to cut the corner to the green and guessed wrong sending my shot into the fescue right of the green. Only reason I found it hard was that I had no idea where to send my approach shot and in retrospect going with driver might not have been the best choice because it left me with the choice of hitting a wedge to the corner or hitting a blind approach. The rest of the course I found rather straight forward, the most difficult aspect being club selection off the tee and keeping it out of the fescue.

Cram it with walnuts!

You make a good point about that second shot. It's definitely a very tough green to go for in 2 since you cannot see the green at all. Played as a 3-shot par 5 it's a pretty easy par if you keep the ball in the fairway. When I played there on a "regular" basis I would often hit a 3-iron off the tee so that I couldn't go for that green in 2.

Club selection there is tough because it's tough to judge distances since there are so few trees to use as points of reference.

Didnt feel like walking up the hill to pick a line? I agree that i have found it really hard to pick a club going for that green in two since it is a goo dit up hill, short at all and your in the fescue so i tend to miss that green long but the road isnt all that far over the green.

It's definitely a risk/reward par 5, but I think the risk is too much to go for that green in 2. It requires a nearly perfect shot to hit that green, let alone hold it.

Anyone play GAP Team Matches last week?  I am bummed this year is the first year in 11 years that I am not playing (aside from last year when they were cancelled).  Weather was perfect for the matches.

Didn't play the team matches but discovered the GAP member play days this year. I played French Creek and Huntingdon Valley and I'm signed up for three more. Wish I would have known about these before.

I see that GAP and DSGA have merged.  I hope to take advantage of the member play days to get on some courses I normally would not have access to.  What is the format?

Has anyone heard anything about Cobbs Creek? Have they started work on the renovation yet?

I was just speaking with a coworker who lives in Bala about this and apparently they have. A lot of trees have been removed, and the community center foundation I believe is getting dugout/built. My guess is that opens long before the course is finished.
