I was a member for there for a few years and still play the public side from time-to-time. I would hope you're playing Alvamar Golf Club (the public) as Alvamar Country Club (the private) requires a little more local knowledge.

Assuming you're on the public, the fairways are very open and don't require many blind shots. There are a few holes on the public that you should know a few things about:

#2: Reachable par 5. You will need to cut a little off the corner as you can drive it through the fairway if you're a reasonably long hitter.
#6: Number 1 handicap hole. Favor the extreme left side of the fairway as there is serious slope running into trouble to the right.
#8: Reachable par 5. Favor the left side of the fairway if you're a long hitter to have a go in two.
#10: Blind shot; hammer it down the right half of the fairway for your best look
#14: Terrible hole! Need a draw off the tee if you're hitting drive or lay back with something shorter to stay on the fairway. Hole works back to the left. Trying to cut the corner can be risky as there's rough hugging the fairway and a creek way down there.

... Sorry, didn't mean to end there.

#17: Not reachable par 5. Tee shot is not going be a problem, it's the next shot so BE CAREFUL. There is a pond that you cannot see from your tee ball that is sitting inside of 100 yards of the green. Lay up to 115 or so or you'll bring the water into play.
#18: Another sneaky tee shot. HUGE pond that you may be able to see from the tee box BUT it comes into play. Stay on the right side, hit a hybrid or fairway wood here.

Other than that, it's not that hard of a track. No tricked up greens or anything like that; what you see is what you get. I will tell you the greens, while fast, play soft meaning a shot with a lot of spin will check up quik and back up considerably with the short irons.

If you're playing the private, country club side it's a totally different golf course. Let me know and good luck!

Todd

No doubt! Great run through! I absolutely love playing Alvamar when it's in good shape. I try to stay away in the winter, but they have great deals going on during those times. I think the layout is one of the most enjoyable in the area. Good luck and enjoy!!
