Recommendations?

I would like to head down to Tuscon next month and play 36. What recommendations do you have for courses? Almost definitely going to play Dove Mtn. What about another?

Keeping in the general neighborhood, there is Vistoso, a pretty solid Weiskopf design. There is also Heritage Highlands, an Art Hills layout I haven't played, but it falls into the "upscale daily fee" category.

I've heard mixed reports about whether the Gallery accepts public play. It can't hurt to make a phone call. 36 holes of Fought and Lehman design, very good reviews, hosted the match play for three years prior to moving to the Ritz-Carlton.

I would be interested in hearing about some courses in Tucson. I grew up in AZ and actually started playing golf in the late 70s in what was then called the Tucson jr golf program. Our lessons were held at Tucson National and back then that was THE course. There were a couple muni's we would play..Randolph and El Rio..although Im sure those wont be on any list to play of Tucson courses. Lots of fond memories for me though. Our family moved from Tucson in '81 and I havent been back since.

It depends on what you are looking for. Dove Mtn is open to the public ($65 before 11am / $45 after 11am). Vistoso is a good track, but also check out Starrpass as well as the Ventana Canyon courses.

I would check out either Arizona National or Tucson National, as well as Star Pass and Vistoso. There are plenty of options here. I played Arizona the other day and it was in good shape. The greens were kind of slow, but pretty true.

Technically it's not in Tucson, but when I was a junior, I loved to play The Links @ Continental in Marana.

There's also La Paloma in Tucson. I think they have three 9's if I remember correctly.
