Vokey Custom Wedges - Feedback

jgpl

Recommended Posts

I was looking on the Vokey.com website and would like purchase a 52 and 58 deg Black Oxide TVD wedges in M gring

Any feedback on these, especially the finish (is it durable?) and the characteristics of the M grind - how low is the effective bounce and are they suitable for a real sweeper?

i currently play 3-6 in 710 CB's and 7-pw in 710 MB's - I an such a sweeper that I couldn't get used to the short irons in the CB's (sole too chunky - honest)

Because of this I really struggle to find suitabke wedges

Any feedback welcomed

You will love them. The M grind has been the easiest wedge for me to get used to in years. I feel that you can sweep with it and hit a soft lob or you can get aggressive with it and hit a nice low pitch. Its really a great wedge. As far as the finish goes, I dont think the black finish is very durable on the hitting area. I can take a picture tonight and show you but I think it looks great with the face wear. As far as the overall look of the wedge is concerned, the finish has stayed strong and looks great. [attachment=821227:photo (54).JPG]

I got the TVD56 and TVD60 not too long ago and love them. I am not a sweeper by any means but it is a very versatile wedge.

Only problem I have had so far is getting used the the extra bounce in the sand. Most of the bunkers I play in Texas don't have much sand so they have been skipping across the surface on me :o(

I used to play a 60.04 and never had that problem but the 60.04 wasn't forgiving at all off the turf.

IMO they have enough bounce to be forgiving but the grind makes it very versatile.

I have a 54 and a 60 bent to 59 in the black oxide finish. The face does wear quickly, however the rest of the club is holding up well. As far as the bounce goes, I play in a variety of conditions. I can sweep or dig with these wedges. The bounce is good from tight lies or deep rough... They are a very versatile grind.
last but not least... if you are struggling with sweeping your wedges... Quit... hit down and take out a chunk of dirt!!!! you will love these wedges if you do!

I know this is kind of off topic for the post but can you order custom grinds and such from discount dans?

And more importantly what grind would be the best for someone the leans towards the digger side but is very much in the middle? I also like to open the face up alot for flop shots.

Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much extra is to get the initials all over the club like the pictures above?

it is a $50 upgrade...

Go get a cheap set of stamps and do it yourself maybe $10 and you could do it to all your clubs!

a customer of mine got 3 TVD black oxide wedges. they are raw so they will rust. i stupidly suggested some naval jelly to clean em up and slow the rust down.....but it REMOVED the black finish. Now his wedge(thank goodness he only did one!!!!) is a dul grey color. took ALL the black off. We ordered them because he liked th eblack finish. i will say this, the black finish showed somedurability in the hitting area.

  • 1 month later...

Dan I played with my 60 Degree for the first time on monday and it was Drizzly...the Club legitimately rusted before my eyes no joke...it is SO SO rusted and it is getting everywhere I hadn't quite expected them to rust SO fast, I know rust is good for spin but frankly, I was a sucker for the black oxide finish because of the smooth look. Would Baby oil do the trick for removing the rust or does that only work when its a gloss black oxide finish?
