I was very pumped about the itour until I saw that handicaps are used to determine a net score and not just what flight you'll belong to. That's like winning or losing a scorecard "playoff."

That is not a bad thing...Not at all. Look at the scores....they are all around 2-4 under par with the adjustment. If you net out around par, you usually cash a check and get your entry fee back. And if you are scared to play that way, there is a straight up flight with no adjustments. I truly don't see any other way for a 7 handicap to compete with a 2. It all comes out in the end.

I have been an I-tour Member for 6 years, and I promise you it is run with one of the tightest monitor of handicaps I have ever seen. There are three "golf tours" in this area that are constructed and run this way....2 of which are thriving. www.itour.com and www.fairwaygolftour.com.

I tour is gearing up for their tour championship next weekend at Pine Dunes for $5k, and could not be more excited to play. With the side games there is a real chance to make real money.

I guess the issue I have is that the structure is not in the spirit of competition. The format doesn't reward those who have put in the time to achieve a higher level of play. You're not playing golf against other golfers, you're playing against your own handicap. If I didn't shoot the low round, I didn't win. Plain and simple. It would be like the NFL giving the Colts some extra points because Manning is out. Doesn't sound right. I'd like to see a format in which handicaps were only used to establish flights. There may be the dominant players in each flight (because they deserve to be), but it would also encourage other players to step up and play to a higher level.

Your reward is a lower handicap and the opportunity to move up in flight. I completely understand your point, but I know where I stand most tournaments on the golf course

I played real well this past Saturday, positioned myself 3 back, and proceeded to birdie the first 3 par 3's on Sunday, knowing that 5k was within reach as I made the turn at 39. I had 2 blow up holes (8's on both par 5's) on the back nine to finish 1 place out of the money. Had I parred those holes, like Saturday, I would have got 3rd. However the 3 birdies on the par 3's were good enough for 3 dueces(all 2's get paid) an a skin, getting my entry fee back essentially and playing for free

Playing the ball down, putting everything out is infinitely more difficult with real $$$ on the line. And this is as close as most of us will get to any kind of golf pressure. It's awesome, and awfully easy to participate here in Dallas.

It rewards you if you have an extraordinary day, and that is all I can ask for. It had made me a MUCH better player.
