Looking to start a traveling playing group in Alabama

Recommended Posts

Details inside

I'm looking to start a traveling golf group or club made up of golfers from within the state of Alabama, or towns that immediately border it.

We would play public and semi-private courses throughout the state, preferably once a month, but it could expand to twice a month with enough interest. Rounds would be played on Saturdays or Sundays only, with a preference for Saturdays except during college football season.

Fellow WRX member Boots McRae and I joined up through this site to play a couple of weeks ago and are going again next week. We really enjoyed it and I'd like to get a group of us together so there's always a game to be had in any given month. I'm thinking a "roster" of 4-8 people minimum would do it. I'd like more if we can get it.

As for "rules," they would be as minimal as possible. This is just a bunch of guys/gals trying to find a round. This isn't a tournament, and any gambling that folks like to do is fine as long as it's respectful of people who don't gamble when they golf.

To the subject of cost, figure on typical RTJ Trail prices or less. In addition to the RTJ courses, I've got a list of about 10-15 other courses that can be mixed in.

We'll try to play all over the state to share/cut travel time for those who are interested, but please commit to leaving your own geographical area at least some of the time.

If you're interested, please post in this thread and I'll contact you individually.

Jess,
I think this is a great idea. I wish I was closer, but not sure I could make the trip from Nebraska to Alabama monthly. I might however borrow this idea and post a similar topic on here about Nebraska/eastern Iowa golfers.

Thanks. And if you ever get down this way, you're welcome to join up. You're only looking at a 22-hour drive. lol

Jess

I PM'ed you on another site a couple of days ago while my registration was being approved.

My first post here. I live close to the Tn line but would be interested in playing in your group north of Timberline. Hope you get a lot of response. Looking forward to playing with golfers not in my usual groupings.

Thanks for steering me to this site. Lots of neat stuff here.

  • 1 month later...

I'm in Chelsea and would be interested in joining some of these outings. I'm generally good for anything from Montgomery to Huntsville.

I can play on a fair amount of Saturdays and Sundays but am on call for work some weekends each month. It's a weird day, but I play frequently on Tuesdays, too.

I think I can do the Highland Park day on Oct 16th if there's room.
