Scramble time
Got some big scrambles coming up and looking for the long ball off the tee. Not interested in what it does after the tee shot. Just looking for long and for the most part strait. Lets see what you guys have to say.

The Callaway Tour xi, Phil is obsessed with distance !
Thank god he isnt obsessed with tight shirts anymore!

My job in a scramble since I am the best ball striker (scary) is to put it in the fairway about 250. So I am not too worried about a total distance. I still use a Pinnacle Golf Distance for the low spin attributes. I also have some Top Flight Freaks to try out. I bought them as logo over runs on callaway preowned.

Here is my rule, 99% of the balls you will find on a course are distance balls and will work just fine on a scramble. So just pick them up and save the money. LOL

TM SLDR 460 set to 10.5° 70g Aldila VS Proto 44"
TM RBZ Stage 2 Tour 14.5° & 19°
Maltby KE4 Tour 22° Hybrid
PING G25 4-UW CFS
Maltby M-Series+ 54° and sometimes 58°
Odyssey White Ice #7 37" counter balanced and a SpryEvo TeCu insert
WS FG Tour(2014) or ProV1x

All other variables the same, a multilayer ball will produce a higher ball velocity and therefore more distance than a 2-piece ball. Urethane covered balls also tend to spin alot more off the tee than surlyn covered balls. That being said, the Bridgestone e7 is the longest and lowest spinning ball I have ever tried.

Cally Diablo HX Tour, i(z), Top Flite D2 Distance/Freak and if you can compress it, the good ol' Top Flite XL 2000.

If you want to get sneaky and play a “non-conforming” ball, use the Dunlap Rebel or Cayman Golf Desperado.

Good luck!

You don't get much more "budget" than the Top Flites. D2/Freak = 15 balls for $15. They may even pay YOU to take the XL 2000 off their hands.

The Cally Diablo Tour is about $25 (ish)

I usually am the anchor on scramble teams and besides distance, what I always like are balls that are affordable because it is waste of time to search for ball in a scramble. 2 best I have found are the Pinnacle Gold Precision and Callaway HX Hot. Both dirt cheap and go a mile (for other guys I am more of a 1/2 mile guy).

Why would u recommend a urethane cover ball when he asked for a longer ball.
Have u played it? And secondly all balls work differently for people. The tour iZ is phenomenal in this area and I don't spend time playing hard, cheap distance balls. So for the longest all around best ball it is hands down tour iZ.

Why not play the ball they use in long drive competitions? I think is a slazenger raw distance, but I could be wrong
This is because Dunlop Slazenger has the sponsorship contract with the LDA at the moment. They used to use the Pinnacle Gold. It has nothing to do with it being the longest ball.

Because a Urethane cover doesn't make it shorter off the tee. The longest balls I've hit are the Cally Tour ix. Longer that the Freak, Exception, D2, yadda-yadda.

Now he did ask for a cheap ball later in the thread, so that rules out urethane, but distance does not.

The Slazenger ball that the LDA uses for long drive competitions is especially made for the LDA & is not yet available for the general public. The off the shelf Slazengers proved too soft for the high speed swings of LD'ers.
I go to LDA qualifiers and they've got the Slazenger LDA balls. They're weird. If you find the seam, hold it up and take a look at it. It's totally flat. The ball basically has a belt around it. Some higher level guys told me that if you tee them up with the seam facing the target, it produces less drag. :beruo: OR they could just be starting a golfing urban legend.

Either way, I didn't find them to be anything special, and I can compress a ball. Storm was spot on when he mentioned that they've (Dicks) had the contract with them as Pinnacle did in the past.

Callaway. Just pick one.
Definitly not a Callaway ball for the longest. E7 Will produce the best ball speeds and distance as long as one has a solid clubhead speed.
Quite the subjective contradiction. I have tried the E7 against the HX Hot and Hot Plus and didn't feel there was much contest. Apples and oranges, I suppose.
