Did my Pings I3's a while back, but I've refined my technique a little bit so I'm going to do them over. I managed to track down some better paint and materials. Those little metal hooks that the dentist uses are great for getting the old paint out! Here's my current driver, irons and wedges in my alma mater's colors: purple, gold and white. I used Testors enamel in metallic purple and metallic gold. Had a hard time photographing them without a ton of glare. Love the X-Forged, but they don't give you enough to paint!

I just got a new Newport 2 Button Back, so I decided to paintfill my Vokey wedge with copper paintfill to match the Button Back. I did not do anything with the paintfill on the button back and don't plan to. I used testors copper enamel, which has great metallic fleck. I masked the Titleist, BV and Vokey Design and painted the rest. I took pictures before I painted the sole, but I ended up painting it too. The wings are usually yellow, but I took out all of the paintfill with goof off (I prefer it to goo gone and acetone). Let me know what you think.

After reading and seeing all of these pics, I decided to give my clubs a facelift. I will post pics when I am finished. Added more color to my Anser, extremely easy. Also, I used an alcohol prep pad to get any excess paint off and that worked very well. Glad I saw this thread, I love to tinker with my clubs and this is just another thing that I can tinker with.

I did some white paint fill for the "G2i", "Anser", and "USA" and also painted the "Ping" in white that goes up the plumbers neck. I added two more sight lines and a sight dot to the top. I am going to send it to Ping to get the sight lines and dot put on professionally when it gets too cold to play. They said it would only cost $26 to do all of the work. I love Ping's costomer service!

This thread has inspired me to try and do some work on my Scotty. I have attempted to take the paint out on the front where it says Scotty and I noticed that there is some excess. I used nail polish remover and a needle to try and removie it. Also once you want to start painting what do you use. I know most of you guys said Testors paint, but what do you apply it with. Some of the spots on my Cameron are really tight. Any info will be appreciated.

I know that people have said this is easy, but I really didn't think it was going to be as easy as it was. I'm pretty non-artistic and I don't have a steady hand for fine details (I'm a big guy with clumsy hands, what can I say), but this was really easy. I painted 3 of my wedges with Gopher Maroon and Gold. Pictures will be coming up soon.

I guess the whole point of this post was - if you're debating on trying this, just go for it. It's really easy. Just use Testors Enamel paint with a toothpick. Once dry (I waited about 5 hours), I just too Goo-Gone, put it damply on a paper towel, wrapped that around a thick card (like a credit card) and slowly worked away the excess. Piece of cake.

Here's what I got so far. . .

X Forged w/ pulled badges and bead blasted cavities. (Probably will stamp them but not sure what yet) and X tour wedges. The numbers are translucent , everything else if opaque.

WOW!! Those X Forged irons look great. Look at all of that free canvas you have to work with! You should definately post new pictures if/when you decide to get creative in those cavities.

P.S. Nice color choices!

  • 2 weeks later...

I've watched the videos on the Scotty Cameron site and he uses something like a credit card or similar piece of plastic to wipe excess paint away after filling. I've tried this and didn't have much luck with a "clean wipe". Maybe my card was too rigid. Anybody have any insight into this nice trick to make things quicker?

The 'trick' , as it were , is to keep any fibers from dropping down into the work.

The card helps but you still have to use a rag or whatever that really has no loose fibers , basically as opposite from a bath towel as you can get.

Can anyone give me insight on what or how the paint is mixed (or not) for the triple dot filling on the custom Cameron paint fills? Mainly speaking of the almost translucent effect of the paint fills I've seen of the reds and blues. The way the color is strong at the edges of the dot and more see thru in the center. Is it mixing down the original color with some clear of the same make of paint?

This all I got so far. Who da thunk having too much room would make it just as hard to come up with something. :) I like a clean look anyway.
