Paint Fills

Can anyone give me insight on what or how the paint is mixed (or not) for the triple dot filling on the custom Cameron paint fills? Mainly speaking of the almost translucent effect of the paint fills I've seen of the reds and blues. The way the color is strong at the edges of the dot and more see thru in the center. Is it mixing down the original color with some clear of the same make of paint?

The clear colors (clear red, clear orange, etc) on the color chart. They're translucents. Practice makes perfect.

Here is my first try at pimping out some clubs. The yellow set is the way they come, I pimped out my 8 year old daughters in some Hot Magenta from testors.....

If you're talking about the deep one on the burner with the dark bottom, yes. It didn't turn out as well as I thought. I first used silver and gold, but it takes a lot of paint to fill the space because of the textured bottom on the stamping. Which in turn brings in a lot of opportunities for bubbles. I went back and stripped my paint fill and did other colors instead. Only problem is I got antsy and used fingernail polish remover and it discolored my white fill a little. It's not really worth taking and posting pics really. I would start with white and then fill with your color preference for a good bright start because that deep red is dark. I hope that helps some. Be sure to dry your paint with the club bottom very level. That's difficult also. If anyone else has had any better luck, let me know. The good thing is that the paint stripper didn't affect the base color (black) on the sole of the club. Just my paint.

I used a hair dryer. It gave it a good head start on drying and then I just put them in front of a fan.

Call me crazy, but has anyone used a dehydrator or something similar to speed up drying time on paint fills. Mainly, anxious when I'm testing colors. I don't mind the wait when I'm set on a color palette. Just looking to speed things up somehow.

That's primarily why I use nail polish. It dries really fast and hard.

Good info, I'm thinking about either a white infill to match the "Taylormade" and "tour" or blacking out everything. I just put in a Aldila Protopype shaft and thought about matching that ugly green color, but I think black or white would look cooler!!

  • 3 weeks later...

Anyone else experimented with different techniques. I recently found that if I used a low temp setting on an old hair dryer and had it on the club from a 2 foot distance that the bubbles floated out of the paint better. They rose before the paint dried and popped. I tried it on a deep paintfill I did recently because of a textured bottom to it. I always overfill anyway and wipe the excess later, but I tried that method because I was having a bubble problem because of the texture. It worked like a charm. Got the idea from a project I recently did building an outdoor bar, as the poly-acrylic resin recommended it to get the bubbles out after pouring.

Call me crazy but I actually bought a food dehydrator and use it. It comes with about three or four trays that are stacked inside. I cut out the tray lining on three of them and then cut a notch on the side big enough for a club shaft. I put the clubhead in and close/stack the trays back and fire it up. The only problem I've had is that it gets really too hot in there. I either "off stack" the trays to let some of the heat out or only do it shortly and then take it out to cool and finish air drying. It does save time. I don't use nail polish colors so I have to dry them the hard way. I've had the best fun with the Tamiya clear colors. They go on like glass and look very sharp. I use a medical syringe to fill with. It keeps the bubbles totally away. If you get a bubble in the clear colors, you pretty much have to start over because it's so in your face.

Those mizzies are sick....how durable is that finish?

And what finish did you have BOS do on those mizzys?

its called aquamarine. The wear is like vokey oil can. it will wear faster if i dont wipe down but they last pretty good. because of this though i purchased their maintainence plan which is a steal. im posting a wedge i just got back .. wait till u see this one.
