You will be pleasantly surprised with the selection and quality of the courses in and around Nashville. First off, the municipal courses are usually in good shape and very inexpensive. Harpeth Hills is a good course and McCabe was always one of my favorites. Lots of good courses within a 45 minute drive - Greystone, Windtree, Pine Creek - depending which side of town you are on.

Not knowing your handicap I would stay away from the muni's if you are in the single digits. They have good bones and layout but the pace of play and condition is less then to be desired.

Greystone is by far the best daily fee for your money in town and they have great membership packages. I see you're coming form Michigan so you'll enjoy that they have bent grass greens but I'll caution you as I am from Cleveland Oh, another area like Michigan that is rich in courses that are high in quality at reasonable prices, Nashville and Middle Tn. do not have nearly as many choices as you are probably used to having in both cost and quality, they throw the term 'championship layout' around very losely here.

Other then Greystone the above mentioned courses are all good, The Hermitage is nice but charges double what it should, and also Gaylord Springs is always nice and in the fall run some great specials, The Legacy up in Springfield is another good layout, lacks a bit of maintenance but you can catch a good deal on golf now.

The State park courses are all pretty nice, and the Bear Trace courses which are all within 1h45min drive make a good weekend day trip for 36 holes.

My advice would be to look up Greystone when you get to town, join if you like it, I think you have to play 20 times in the year to make it pay for itself, the people out there are wonderful, the members and usual players are some of the best people I've played with in and around nashville, all friendly with a large age range and playing ability range.

The director of Golf out there is great, tell him you are new in town and he'll set you up with a good group to go and play with and make sure you're taken care of.

If you are looking for cheap and good, Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro,TN would be the hands down winner in that category. Its about a 30 minute drive south and east on I-24 from downtown Nashville. Another cheap and good course to try is Henry Horton located in Chapel Hill,TN. Best to take I-65 South and its a good 45 - 60 minute drive from Downtown. A new course that is slated to open next spring is Mystic Ridge(designed by jack Nicklaus's company). This course will be located off 840 just south of Triune,TN. Good luck on the move and welcome to Nashville,TN. Be prepared to sweat alot in the summer months....

I second Old Fort and Greystone. Cannot go wrong either way. Great people at both. Hermitage is nice, but is a bit pricey compared to the others. I've never been a fan of Gaylord Springs, but has been a while since I played it an maybe it's better now. It's worth playing once at least just to find out if it suits you. Windtree in Mt. Juliet is also nice, with good variety, although kind of short.

depend on what side of town ur on. greystone is great, legacy in springfield is nice, clarksville about 30 mins away has eastland greens, swan lake, and novadell just down the road which are all great. clarksville is not on Golf now though, pebble brook is nice and close to nashville. there are alot of good courses for 30-35 daily walk up fees in nashville.

of course there are alot of higher priced clubs were members are just as slow.

What are are you living in nashville??
