No Love for Nike?

Nessism

Been club hoing on ebay and can't help notice low prices on Nike clubs. VR wedges are VR Pro hybrids in particular seem like nice clubs that are plentiful and dirt cheap. Just bought two of the hybrids for cheaper than I could have gotten one Adams A12 for. Worth the gamble?

Supply and demand my friend. Plenty of Nike equipment to go around and not enough golfers demanding it. Their offerings as of late are very good IMO. Not too sure on their hybrids though as I haven't tested any of their hybrid offerings yet.

Yeah I am gaming the Machspeed black round driver right now and couldn't be happier. Had just as good results on the launch monitor as the Razr and R11 for half the cost! (plus I personally love the all blacked out look)

I've been an Adams hybrid guy for awhile now but I just hit the VrPro hybrid and I was very impressed!!

I've been gaming the VR combo for a few months now and I have to say they are great. I agree with the supply and demand thing for a different reason though. Most people on ebay seem to be going after titleist, mizuno and TM clubs when it comes to the players irons. Because of that the prices on nike stuff has fallen even though it is just as good.

Nike is definitely being slept on. I had some issues with an R11 3 wood so I decided to switch my bag. After some demo days, I decided to go with Nike. The VR Tour driver was giving me the best launch angle and ball speed compared with R11, Burner 2.0, RHT, and Cobra S3. I just received my VR Pro blades in the mail today and went out and hit them for about 45 minutes and they feel great. IMHO, I think they are just as good of an iron as Mizuno. I agree with GatorNate. I just don't think Nike has quite pushed the envelope in the golf world yet. Believe me though, it will happen. So get the clubs now while they are at these ridiculous prices!:clapping:

Ditto on that. I'm wondering what it is on the stigma on Nike golf clubs.... Just because they are not as established as TMs or Callaways?
Folks have been telling me to get Callaways or TMs forever, but I still kinda like the feel on my SQ Machspeeds and VR wedges.

Now if only Nike can produce a 'Machspeed version' of the VR wedges.....

Their VR Pro hybrids are fantastic and if they had TM or Titliest on them, everyone would be raving about them. I've been playing the 18* since March and I was hitting it so well that I purchased the 15* a month ago. It is every bit as good as the 18* and SOOO easy to hit. I thought I would hit low runners but I actually hit it relatively high and almost as long as a 3W! I have two 3Ws for sale now in the swapshop simply because I am only loosing a few yards with the hybrid but the control I have with it is amazing. The head is small, but very forgiving and the feel is "forged" like. The stock PX6.0 shaft fits me perfectly. If I weren't hitting the 3I blade so well, I would definitely put in a 21* as well.

Nike makes fantastic equipment. Since I prefer shorter, heavier drivers, it is hard to use OEM drivers now without a boat load of lead tape or rat glue so that's why I don't have one of their drivers. And I am not a fan of adjustable heads but I did try the VR Pro 3W and it was nice. The blades and wedges are some of the best available...if it only didn't have the swoosh.

I have the VR pro hybrid 23degree and absolutely love it, you won't be dissapointed, so easy to hit. Really struggled with even trying it in the beginning because like most I don't care much for nike, but the guy at the shop talked me in to trying it out for comparison when I was looking at a bunch of hybrids. Hit two balls with it and handed over the cash and haven't looked back. If I had more room in the bag I'd get a 2nd one tomorrow.

I have some left over Nike tour gear..mostly just some long irons.. Proto split and full cavity heads, always like those irons. Currently play the VRProII Procombo which is really a great set. Used a LE Method001 for awhile, but the plumbers neck has never been my style. Looking forward to LE Driver and maybe the 3w...hybrids I'm sticking for TM because those are money.

Nike is not taken seriously by the serious golfer..... it didn't start as a golf euipment manufacturer and doesn t have the appeal.

Maybe Tigers Decline is dragging the brand down? wel it least not helping..".

I think the wedges and drivers are good and love the Method 001
I do believe this perception exists. I do not believe Nike gear is any less or better than nearly any other. My old original Nike Slingshots are as good as it gets in the GI grouping as are my MachSpeed woods/hybrids..

Bottom line is there are many Nike haters and lovers out there. Nike makes great stuff. Buy it is you like it. I am not brand loyal and would ahve no issue going all nike, all Callaway, all Taylormade etc....

Tiger down and Kim struggling have not helped as others on their staff seem to be a bit boring. Good players yes, but boring. Callaway seems to have the same issue.

Funny in a way and not so much in others. Most have no problem with Addias/TM. Nike goes out and hires proven persons to design and build their equipment business yet many do not consider them as a quality equipment company despite Nike Pros have many wins including majors on tour. Even excluding Tiger their staffers ahve won. Most are boring but they have won.

Had Nike bought Callaway/Titleist, etc... the perception would be completely different.

I have never owned or played a Nike club. With that being said I am very intrigued by their products. I have no reason to believe that they would be good, but in my mind I know that no other company probably has the resources they do to make fine clubs. They have to be good.

First of all, let me say that I do not own stock in any golf related companies-

What I do know are facts-

In 2000, a certain individual won the US Open by 15, The Open Championship by 8, and the PGA in a playoff, along with the Masters in 2001-

The ball he played with then was a Nike ball (which was made by Bridgestone), and, quite frankly, it revolutionized the industry.

Anyone remember what then-Titleist staffer Phil Mickelson asked Wally Uihlein ......"Don't you (Titleist) have anything in your R&D pipeline?"

More than a decade later, is there any manufacturer out there exclusively offering just a wound ball?

How many of the serious players are using a wound ball? What type ball are you using?

The people behind Nikes R&D (e.g, Tom Stites, Rock Ishii) were successful with other companies long before they signed up with them.

If you dislike the company just because of the actions of one person, or brand, that is your privilege.

But you shouldn't hate something you haven't tried, or speak about "serious players" not using their equipment.

That is ignorance. ...seriously.

You know what it is for me? It's the name and the swoosh. I would just be embarrassed to have them on my equipment because it seems like a long time ago they stopped being a cutting edge sports equipment company and started being a made-in-china-with-sweat-shop-labor-tshirt-for-$60!-if-you-wear-it-everyone-will-think-you're-cool-company. I don't know one person who if they saw Nike in my bag, the first thing out of their mouth wouldn't be "poser" or "douchebag".

And unfortunately that about sums up most every Nike fan-boy I know; poser or douchebag. I'm not talking about anyone who uses Nike products, just the ones who you'd think were getting paid to wear the swoosh on eight items their wearing at any one time.

NOW, those harsh words being said, I have a set of their VR Pro Blades brand new that are sitting in my closetblack%20eye.gif because they are as close to the perfect blade as I have ever seen / hit. C'mon; Endo forged, pure muscleback, squared heel (down boy!), squarish toe and I haven't seen build quality like this EVER, not even in Mizuno and I've owned multiple sets. I mean every shaft label is perfectly wrapped and aligned, every ferrule meets every hosel with NO rough egdes, every grip perfectly aligned. They look like a friggin' machine assembled them.

But I haven't played them because half of me says you can't play Nike equipment, while the other half says these are some of the best irons I've ever had :russian_roulette:

They'll probably end up sitting forever in my house because I can't bring myself to play them OR sell them.

I think Nike is making phenomenal equipment now. Personally I wish they'd just do what Automakers do; it's not a Nissan, it's an Infiniti. It's not a Honda, it's an Acura. They're not Nike clubs they're Kein (whatever...). Then I can be a closet Nike player.

Received my hybrids tonight and they look fantastic!partytime2.gif The heads are pretty small but inspire confidence.

Grips are a huge improvement over the crappy Easton grips on the VR Pro wedges, and the build quality looks flawless. Can't wait to try these things out.good.gif
