Did I miss are they at the Circus or Playing Golf
I am sure this might start some controversy, and I am all for team support at the Solhiem cup; but what is with all the face paint. The American ladies look like they just got done at a 12 year olds birthday party. I know they do this as a sign of support, but I think it detracts a bit from the event. I hope that we win, but I could do without the painted faces. I have yet to see a European other than a fan with face paint.

To be fair the Spanish girl definitely had some yesterday and maybe one of the Swedes too but its a bit OTT IMO, not sure if any of the Euros have it today.

If it's any consolation most of them are playing like 12 year old girls. What horrible golf I have been seeing the past two days.
It's a result of playing most if not all of their golf under ideal conditions. Most of the guys on the PGA fall victim to this as well during the week at the Open Championship. Heck, even Rory, and Irishman, came out and said he would much rather play in the US where it is sunny, warm, and course conditions are manicured to a T. Ever notice how the tours tailor their schedules to be in parts of the country when the weather is ideal?

Make sense for everyone, at times the Open was unwatchable this year with rain drops on the camera but its once a year so I can put up with it. If TV golf was like that more often then a lot of viewers would turn off IMO.

Based on the vox populi of the Golfwrx site, it doesn't matter if they're wearing facepaint or playing poorly, so long as they have other physical attributes.
Haha surely you don't mean appearance? I'm kidding but I really can't watch any of it. And I usually do watch womens golf. They usually have the most fluid swings and I think they get more excited about it than a lot of the guys on the PGA now. But the putting has been pretty bad out there this year.

I agree with you. I am not saying it is a bad thing, just that when 95% of your golf is played under ideal weather and course conditions it's almost expected that the quality of the golf is not going to be up to par when you are playing under not so ideal conditions.

The way in which the schedule is tailored isn't so much about TV though, it more about when courses are able to be played on and keeping tournaments in an area for a period of time to make traveling easier on the players.

At least we don't have to see a zillion cialis commercials (ask your doctor, daily dose, moment arises, 4 hours, go blind, lose your hearing yada yada). That being said the golf is pretty sad. Like tomorrows singles basically sacrificing Wie by pairing her with Petersen. Vicky Hurst should get smoked by Reid in all categories.

Luckily both sides even put together don't have to play an asian team...

I thought the pairings are random, in the sense that both Captains revealed their lineups simultaneously. I that's the case, then there isn't any sacrifice per se, as it's all the luck of the draw.

I do agree that Pettersen will slaughter Wie, given that Wie has been missing in action during the Cup.

The face paint is a little high school ish, IMHO.

But then again, this is a team spirit event, just like the Thanksgiving football rivalries.

I hate to admit it, but I actually like the face paint. I think it's an innocent, fun, happy display of patriotism in an event that is supposed to be a fun celebration of golf. It displays pride in your team without demeaning your oppponent. In contrast, Kim's histrionics are contrived, excessive, and insulting to the European team.

Keep the face paint. Tell Kim to shut up.

People just can't help criticising when things aren't done the way they like it.

Same goes for choppers playing blades, the wearing of flat brim caps, the wearing of 'feminine colours' and the use of staff bags by high handicappers.
I actually could care less who play what clubs, or what type of bag they use. I have no issue with the colors that folsk choose to wear either. I do however think that we could do without the flat brim hats, and a few good haircuts might be an improvement.

I'm enjoying the Solheim Cup. I'm a big fan of match play and have found some of the matches very compelling. I haven't thought much about the face paint one way or the other.

Ditto. And the caliber of play has been incredibly high, after the Friday foursomes which were sloppy in bad weather. In particular the level of play on the late holes has been fantastic when the matches are in balance.

Anyone who rips the caliber of play isn't commenting on what is actually going on but had his mind made up ahead of time and uses any single shot or handful of selected shots as so-called evidence. I'm reminded of the scratch amateur vs. 100 ranked LPGA pro thread. :cheesy:

It may be just me, but I think they look at bit silly. I am sure folks say the same about my white belt and white Flaks.

I have had long hair too, but you have to admit some of the players could use at least a trim.

They should make skimpy golf outfits mandatory no matter what the weather is( like womens' volleyball). This will make plus size golfers to get fit.

+2. I found playing for country and pride to be much more compelling than for $$. And face paint or no face paint, it proved to be good theater.
