Srixon Balls

UR or UR-S
The thread awhile ago about driver distance inspired this test.

However, it turned into a ball comparison in the process.

Played 18 today and SkyCaddied every drive to see how far I really hit my tee shots.

Played the front with a Bridgestone B330 and had an average drive of 285 including roll.

Found a Srixon UR-S on the front and used it on the back with an average drive of 283 including a pop up 260 yarder.

According to Srixon's website the only difference I can really see is that the UR-S is recommended for swing speeds of 80+ and the UR for swing speeds of 90+.

My driver SS is around 103-105. My question is this-If I hit the UR-S 283 yards average should I see a marked increase with the UR?

Thanks-

The UR-S also found a soft spot in my heart as I hit the flag with a 5 wood for an ALMOST Double Eagle.

I played the Z UR yesterday for the first time (SS 100). Long off the driver. Putted very true. They seemed to roll out a little more on chips and pitchs. Full irons into the greens did not back up or go forward - they all ended up right next to the ball mark. I really liked the ball overall and will keep playing them.

As far as i know, the main and only difference between the ur and urs is the compression... the cover, dimples.. etc are supposed to be the same... i played the urs hoping it would spin a little more (like a prov vs prov x OR hx tour vs hx tour56) but that wasn't the case... it all really depends if you like a softer or harder feeling golfball

You are correct, the only difference between the Z-UR and the Z-URS is the compression. The cover is exactly the same. If you are looking for more spin, the Z-URC is your ball. It will be available in VERY LIMITED release in Novemeber-January before they are released at the PGA show at high quantities.

So the difference is not as great as a ProV vs. ProVx or a B330S and a B330?

I was thinking that I have found the firmer feeling balls to be a little longer off the tee and that the UR, theorectically, should be longer than the URS. But it sounds like it is strictly about feel characteristics and that I probably wouldn't see much difference in terms of distance. Is that correct?

It depends. A slower swing speed is going to hit the Z-URS longer because they can compress the ball easier with the Z-URS and the Z-UR would be too hard and would not compress enough to take full effect of the balls distance capabilities. On the other hand someone with a high swing speed (115-120 or above) will over compress a soft ball and need a harder ball like the Z-UR. But it is all relative to swing speed, swing effeciency, and personal preference. With a consistant swing speed of 105-115 you probably will not experience too much difference between the Z-UR and Z-URS in distance so make your choice based on feel around the greens.

I've always been a fan of the UR-S. In contrast to another poster, I really enjoyed the 'click' I felt off of the irons. I thought it spun plenty as well. Putts good (what doesn't these days), and the cover appears durable. Is it a ProV1? Nah, but what is?

My driver swing speed is in the 100+ mph speed, and I usually put a lot of spin on my iron shots (steep), if that helps.

Cheers,

Ben
