I never realized after having my son on how much less I’d have time for golf. Before my son was born I was at the golf course minimum of 3x a week. It’s funny I hit balls a couple times over the last couple weeks and I couldn’t remember the last time I’ve played an actual round of golf, maybe this past August?

Every year I keep saying this is the year I am going to join the elks an play more, still hasn’t happened lol.

I am however going to sneak out Tuesday somewhere, either I’ll hit the ball okay an scrape a round together, or I’ll play like piss.

Getting to play Shaker Run this Saturday...kinda excited, I haven't played there in about 2yrs due to how bad it had become. But word is there are a few investers now that really want to actually spend the money to make this place great again. It has already come a long way I hear and excited to check it out.

Played the original 18 at Shaker about 3 or 4 years ago and didn't have a problem with conditioning. It wasn't pristine country club but good enough for a daily fee course. Paid 25-30 through golf now...plenty of value.

Since my daughter has been born I have hit the range more times than I ever have. It is easier to go to the range for an hour or two than to play a 4 hour round. I am pretty sure I know every break in the Little Miami putting green by now but I hope I play more this summer when school lets out and I have more time in the mornings. Its tough being away from that little booger for too long.

I think around that time they were trying to revamp it, but it once again started to decline. When I moved back here about 3ish yrs I joined there but obviously didn't last due to it's failure in improvements. I do really hope these new guys can bring it back.

Hey Cincy folks, if you haven't been out to Blue Ash GC you oughta get out there. The course is in the best shape I've ever seen it. Really stellar. I also love the more open feeling of the course now that they took out a bunch of trees. Really cool views and corridors throughout the course. Check it out!

Do they still treat people like dogcrap? Last few times I played there I felt like I was more of an inconvenience rather than a customer to the staff, and especially the starter/rangers.

So right off the bat there are some nice improvements with Shaker. Unfortunately it's not the parking lot yet lol. Looks like they updated the inside of the club house and the pro shop actually looks like a pro shop with nice clothes for sale.

The range was in the best shape I've ever seen it in. The balls are still the cheap yellow range balls but no big deal.

We played Woodlands to Lakeside from the tips, the tee boxes can definitely use some work on a few holes. Honestly the fairways are in amazing shape from where they were and just in general, they really look great. There are a few spots that I have no idea what is going on but I'm sure they'll get to it. Bunkers...they are highly under renovation. A lot of them didn't have sand in them, the new sand that they got is kinda gritty but I two great outs of them so not complaining...yet lol. The greens are actually in quite good shape, 9 on Woodlands was the worst. They were slower than I'd like but still good.

So, they sold some property, and I'm pretty sure they said it was prior to the new owners taking over. So between and around 3,4,6,7,& 8 there are going to be condos. They are currently under construction for that now.

So overall, I'd go back tomorrow. I don't know what the rate is as I was lucky to play for free. But if they aren't charging outrageous fee's right now I'll go back. I think this place is still about another year and a half out to really being back. But I would recommend going out and playing out there to check it out and support them and their efforts.

I need to edit picture sizes but this one I added I drew on maps to show where the construction is currently going on, there is a roundabout I think where the bathroom used to be. Oh and the had to shorten up #7, so none of the bunkers are in play at all anymore.

Yeah they are a lot better. Pretty true and fast. Not lightning, but fast.

Thank you Keith for the update on Shaker. Some comments you made are certainly encouraging but others such as the gritty sand aren't encouraging. What ever they bought will be on the course for a while. Also, what I have seen with a lot of golf courses under new management is they invest a decent amount the first year but then realize the cash flow isn't there and stop investing in the course and the course goes back to where it started...not being in great shape. Which is a shame but the golf business is tough.

The sand might be better when its dried out but when it's wet it definitely looked kinda gritty.

Does anyone have recommendations for Columbus-area courses? I played a lot of golf in middle-early high school, took about 7 years off of playing regularly, and just got into it seriously last year. I'd like to take a lesson or two, but my budget is pretty limited since I'm just out of college.

Any particular side of town?

Certainly do whatever works best for the group but I already have a round going Friday so if you move it then I will have to skip.

Quick heads up that Boulder Creek in Streetsboro, Ohio is in fantastic condition right now. This Owner is quite eccentric and keeps dumping money into the place has done a neat job. Worth a one tank trip! BB
