Quick heads up that Boulder Creek in Streetsboro, Ohio is in fantastic condition right now. This Owner is quite eccentric and keeps dumping money into the place has done a neat job. Worth a one tank trip! BB

I live on west side of Cleveland and Boulder is by far one of my favorite courses in Ohio! Glad to hear it’s in great shape

Thanks BB, I will make sure I get out there in the next couple of weeks. Haven't played it in 10 years easy.

SHAKER RUN - LEBANON OH,

Had a chance to go back to play Shaker this morning after a 3+ year hiatus due to the bad course conditions of the previous ownership. We really wanted to have a good experience today as the first try back, but unfortunately it was not the case.

Booked the tee time online through their website (not any of the "deal" sites) and could book either w/ cart or w/o cart. My buddy and I always walk with clic gear carts so we booked the w/o cart rate of $41 for a 8:50 tee time. Got to the course at 8, went in to pay for the round and some range balls, and was met with a significant attitude by the pro, and telling us that they don't allow walking before 3pm on the weekends. His reasoning was their concern with pace of play. After going back and forth with him that his own website doesn't say anything about carts only on the weekends, that we booked the tee time through his site, and then called earlier in the week to make 100% confirmation that we could walk, he finally gave in and "allowed" us to walk and made it clear that he expected us to keep us to the group in front.

5 hours and 15 minutes later our round finally came to an end. The 4some in carts in front of us had an entire whole open after 3 holes and 2-3 holes open after 9. We all know that not everyone understands pace of play and sometimes need to be reminded by a ranger- never one to be seen at any point in the round. After the round was over, we went into the shop and the pro asked us how our round went - at 5+ hours I told him it was not a good experience. Asked him where the ranger was and he told us that someone called in sick so they were short handed. Counted 35 cars in the parking lot when we left so I don't think he was to busy to take a spin around the course to check on pace of play when he made such a big deal of it with "walkers".

For the last 6 weeks we have been playing heatherwoode and Yankee trace on a regular weekend basis. Never had a round over 4:15 and most have been right at 4. Again the attitude of walkers are slow, really bugs me (as you can tell from the rant above). If all they want is the cart fee and this is why they make carts mandatory, then OK, but make sure that all of the public information that is on the website clearly states this and don't allow me to book w/o a cart online. This is where I draw the line - between my buddy and I we spend upwards of $200 a weekend on golf between greens fees, range balls, drinks, snacks, etc. Shaker will not get any part of those dollars from us anymore. ONE AND DONE!

Now for anyone that is actually reading this for the course review:

Woodlands - fairways have been slit seeded recently, bunkers are being worked on and should be played as ground under repair. Greens were in good condition and overall I would not rate it in the class of Heatherwoode yet, but with how bad it was when they took it over I think they are progressing.

Lakeside - Better condition that woodlands, bunkers have new sand in them, pretty fluffy but seeing that it is all new it is certainly expected. Fairways in good shape as where the greens. Rough is quite penal, but again that it OK.

Overall the course was in decent shape, but again for us that want to walk on the weekends, the mandatory cart and attitude of walkers being slow, and the lack of a ranger to help pace of play, unfortunately we will take our money elsewhere.

Hopefully the powers to be at Shaker see this, and make immediate changes to their site and alert all personnel of their policies and for heavens sake- get a ranger!!

SHAKER RUN - LEBANON OH,

snip quote

Man, that sucks. If there is one thing I can't take on a course is attitude from course staff when YOU are paying them to play their course. Especially when you "do everything right" ahead of time as it seems you did. I've not played there in about 4 years now, a bit too far a drive for what it's worth playing there. Seems the east side has some better offerings these days.

I never realized after having my son on how much less I'd have time for golf. Before my son was born I was at the golf course minimum of 3x a week. It's funny I hit balls a couple times over the last couple weeks and I couldn't remember the last time I've played an actual round of golf, maybe this past August?

Every year I keep saying this is the year I am going to join the elks an play more, still hasn't happened lol.

I am however going to sneak out Tuesday somewhere, either I'll hit the ball okay an scrape a round together, or I'll play like piss.

Since my daughter has been born I have hit the range more times than I ever have. It is easier to go to the range for an hour or two than to play a 4 hour round. I am pretty sure I know every break in the Little Miami putting green by now but I hope I play more this summer when school lets out and I have more time in the mornings. Its tough being away from that little booger for too long.

Have a 3 week old and the best wife in the world, so I’ve played twice this week. Feel like a bad dad saying that, but he and my wife have been out with her sisters for brunch both times.

Hey guys. If Anyone is interested in playing Pinnacle in grove City and donating to a good cause, there is a scramble next Monday the 21st benefitting The Refuge drug and alcohol rehab clinic. Pinnacle is quite a nice private track if you arent familiar with it.

$125 a person including lunch and dinner. Very Nice deal since guest fees are normally $93 bucks anyway.

Here’s the sign up.

I am golden! Got Thursday off but can't take Friday!

I cant take Friday sorry.

Just checking back in since we are a week away. Anybody making the tee time? I would be happy to make it but I am not a member at Elks...though if we play somewhere else I would be happy to makeit. Just let me know.

You don't have to be a member out there to play, just need to be with a member to play I believe. I played out there a lot last summer and I'm not a member, just played with a guy who is.

Luke, you got that Elks t time setup?

What time you want to play?

Any time works for me..I think LordHelmet said he had soccer in the afternoon so maybe morning round?

Keith, just stating that I couldn't make the tee time myself since I am not a member. So if Luke makes the tee time we should be all set. Wish you could join us.

Does anyone have recommendations for Columbus-area courses? I played a lot of golf in middle-early high school, took about 7 years off of playing regularly, and just got into it seriously last year. I'd like to take a lesson or two, but my budget is pretty limited since I'm just out of college.

For lessons, I can’t recommend Laurel Dieken at Able’s Golf on Avery enough. She’s a miracle worker.

If you’re looking for courses, Rolling Meadows isn’t a bad choice for cheap rounds. Not the prettiest or most memorable course, but flat and forgiving if you want to get the rust off.
