Having a hard time finding tee times at my usual spots on Friday afternoon for two. Anyone played Aston Oaks this year? I've never been out there.

If you get out there on Friday let me know how it is,my brother set us up a time out there for father's day.

Having never played the course, let alone from the blacks, it was a hard task. Especially the back 9. I played decent on the front, but the back wrecked me. The last 3 holes are strange to finish on, that's for sure.

Course was in decent condition, difficult greens. Last few holes had some fairway issues that could easily be remedied with the rain we're finally getting this next week.

7.5/10 overall. I'll be back, can't say when as it's just a trek to get out there.

Not a huge fan of Aston Oaks. Used to play it a few times a year several years ago but one summer they had some kind of disease on fairways that made some of the holes unplayable as they were all mud and black fungus looking something. Some decent enough holes but as you mentioned, the closing three holes are so weak. That par 5 is a total joke (I think its 16). The par 3 17th is as generic as it comes and it feels like they were running out of real estate and just jammed a few closing holes in. I would play it if a buddy asked but not going to go out of my way to make a tee time there.

The only reason I played is because I couldn't find a tee time anywhere! I think they do have some diseased fairways still on the back nine, hence some odd cartpath only par 4s and 5s...which makes getting a yardage very difficult and I didn't have the right club in my hands a few times. As much room as they took up making that hilly course, I'm dissapointed in the finishing holes for sure. Good value however, under $40 w/ cart for a mid afternoon Friday tee? Not bad.

First real round today since the birth of my son. Played 18 at Boone Links, and it’s in much better shape than it was the last 2 years. Lots of trees have been cut down and all the bunkers have new sand. Greens were firm and fast. There are still some places that are “waste areas” that need to be weedwacked or leveled out soma mower can get to it. Big step forward from where it was.

Who do y'all like for lessons in Columbus?

Jeff Jackson at Granville Golfland helped me (before I started making the change to a Jimmy Ballard type swing) and both of my kids. I've also heard a lot of good things about Matt Smith at Pinnacle.

Laurel Dieken or JR Ables at Ables Golf at Avery. I've worked with Laurel since I started playing and she's a wonderful teacher. Patient and not overly technical.

Has anyone played Cooks Creek recently? Was thinking about playing on Fathers Day and wanted an update on course conditions.

The front nine is probably underwater with all the rain we've gotten.

When I was a jr I used JR for lessons. Super nice guy and very knowledgeable. I liked his approach as well. He didn't want to break my swing apart and have me start over from scratch. He wanted me to clean things up and refine things a bit. He wasn't coaching a swing, he was coaching to my swing.

Played woodlands to lakeside at shaker run the other day. Haven’t played there in over a decade. Besides them redoing all the bunkers and maybe 2 aerated fairways, it was in GREAT shape. While construction is going on it’s only $39. I’m going back in 2 weeks, real excited this course is regaining its position as one of the best layouts in the area. And for that price right now I don’t think there’s anything comparable.

Wife and I are planning on making it up to the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in a few months, for the weekend. I thought, since some of you guys may be somewhat local, I'd ask if there are any tips or suggestions, as far as where to stay, eat, (or not to stay/eat) etc. Also, we plan on playing 18 somewhere, Monday morning, if you have any suggestions on that front, as well. We're coming from NW Ohio (about 3 hrs), and it also happens to be our anniversary weekend. Any input would be great. Thanks!

Book dinner reservations at the Diamond Grill in Akron - old style steak house with really good food and you may see some golfers there also. There was a change in ownership fairly recently and it is a friendlier atmosphere now. Ken Stewart's Grill, also in Akron, is a better than average seafood restaurant. There is also a Fleming's steakhouse if you're looking for a chain. Cleveland is only 30 minutes away - Lola, Greenhouse Tavern, Mabel's BBQ are some good choices on 4th.

Anyone played Denison yet this year?

I play there nearly every Saturday. It is excellent shape - I think the greens this past weekend were about as fast as they can get them given the slope, the rough is thick and a real b****.

Hope all you Dad's out there had a great father's day. My two brothers and I took our Dad out to Aston Oaks, first time any of us have been there. I really liked the course, the fairways and greens are in awesome condition as well. They also have some new carts and the owner said the rest are coming in next week or so. They have on cart gps which is nice, but one of the best things they have is margaritas on tap on the beer cart and vodka lemonade. Really enjoyed it and looking forward to going back.

Anyone got recommendations for courses near oxford? Heading to Miami next year and looking to play as much golf as possible while I'm there. Already played Indian Ridge, which was very solid and have heard Hueston Woods is a solid track. Any other suggestions?

if your willing to drive a little bit, there is a hidden gem called Harbor Links which is actually in Brookville Indiana. I personally prefer it to Hueston Woods or Indian Ridge.

Hueston woods should be called Hueston meadows now. They lost allot of ash trees. Much different course.

I've played Wedgewood a couple of times. Very solid track with nice rolling terrain(especially for the area it's in). Always in great condition. A good mix of fairly open holes and tree lined. Its definitely in the convo if not the best of the rest in Cbus

If you head towards Hamilton, about 30 min away from oxford, there are a few courses. I always liked Walden Ponds.

My family were members out there back in like 2006-2008. It's great course and is always in excellent shape. I would def. try to get a round on it before playing it in the Ohio Am. There are some tricky tee shots which are mostly blind due to doglegs.

It's not overly punishing if you keep the ball in the short grass. You can really throw up a good number if you're playing from the fairway there. The minute you're off the short grass, things can start escalating.

That is awesome. I take my daughter (the one still playing golf) the the Web.Com finals at OSU's Scarlet course in the Fall. She loves being up close to the pros and seeing how they swing, chip and putt. I think it helps ground kids who expect perfection to see that the pros are far from perfect also.
