Played sugarbush monday with my son. Made a 20 footer on 9 to shoot an even par 36 then was plus 6 walking off the 14th green! Great track, great deal on mondays there. And I agree about that whole list. There are plenty of golf opportunity's in Akron. The firestone 9 is a really fun 9 hole course with a decent driving range and prices. Lots of elevation changes, good greens and you can use every club in your bag from beginner to good players.

Playing in my first tournament of the year tomorrow at Skyland Pines. Haven't been hitting the ball real well lately but I've been scoring so hopefully I can post a good one tomorrow! Not sure why, but I'm really nervous. I'm in the first group off so all eyes will be watching. My miss has been left of late and on the 1st hole it's OB all the way down the left side.

Anyone played Little Mountain and Fowlers Mill recently and can give me some comments or insight? I'm trying to decide which of the two to play by the end of this week? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Fowlers Mill is great, but also very tough. Kind of overpriced, but there are deals out there. I wouldn't play Little Mountain (or Stonewater for that matter). Not worth the price they try to charge. There are so many quality courses in NE Ohio that I am spoiled. I expect to play a nice course for $35 or less.

I have been playing pretty well lately. Shot a 70 (-2) on the 4th on an easy course. Also shot a 34 (-1) in my league on a tougher course. I seem to be hitting my stride in time for the Cleveland AM. Hopefully, I can make it to the big dance this year. Missed it by 1 last year.

Hey guys,

Groupon has a good deal going for The Ranges in Cleveland, Valley View and Hudson if you're interested in getting a little practice in.
You aren't too far away from me then. I just go about 10 minutes down Pittsburg which turns into Mayfair Rd. Do you play Mayfair much? Raintree is another good one right down the road a minute or two.

Has anyone played BeaverCreek this year?! Playing on thursday curious on the conditions of the course..
I have played it twice this year. Both times it was in good condition (probably April and June). I actually think the Dayton area has pretty good public courses with Beavercreek, Yankee Trace and Heatherwoode. I come up a few times a year from Cincinnati to play those courses.

Played at The Elms CC in Massillon today. My buddy is playing in a tournament(61st Tigertown Open) this week and wanted to get a practice round in before the tournament so I played with him today. Shot a 39(+4) on the front, and 45(+8) on the back for an 84(+12). Played well. Wasn't striking my drives very solid but they were finding the fairway so I'm not complaining. The Par 5's really hurt my score. All four of them around right around 530 and I bogied all of them despite having the ability to reach them all in two with a good drive and then hybrid into the green.

I had played the back a couple years ago in a golf match but this was my first time playing 18 there. Course was in awesome condition and it played really tough. The small, soft, and lightning quick greens make for a long day if you aren't sticking your approaches close. Luckily, my iron play was pretty good most of the day.

How'd your buddy do in the Tigertown Open? The pros just rip that course apart. 42 people shot par or better this year. 3 guys shot 65 and 2 shot 66. Pretty amazing to think how many local pros can just go out and shoot 68 in a tournament without batting an eye.

He shot an 80. He started on the back with a 45 and then shot even par on the front with a 35. Quite a turn-around between 9's!

Shot an 86(+16) at Windmill Lakes yesterday. Real nice course. Not as nice as I was expecting it to be, but still a very good course.

I'd describe the course as long and difficult. I par'd holes 1 & 3...didn't have another par until #17 and also went on to par 18. Couldn't get anything going all day and was missing everything right. Putts, irons, drives. Everything right and it felt like I wasn't hitting anything solid. First time I had played in two weeks so I guess that's what I should have expected.

I know it is a long shot but anybody played Windy Knoll this year. I believe they were in financial trouble and got bought out in the Spring. I am in Cincinnati and always enjoyed running up for a day and playing 36 there. Just wonder if it turned into a goat track because of the financial issues?
I've always loved Windy Knoll and just played there a couple weeks ago for the first time this year. Conditions are pretty similar to how they've always been. Couple of differences, though, they've cut down almost all the tall heather. There's still some left between 4 and 5, but that's about it. And the greens look similar- kind of that bare, sandy look they've always had- but are REALLY bumpy. They were still ok speed wise, but they need some work. Outside of that, though, I was happy.

Thanks for the great feedback. I think we have posted on the same thread before...maybe about Liberty Hills golf course. When you say the greens were very bumpy..was it that they were not mowed tight or imperfections in the ground. I am thinking about playing 36 up there next month while also catching a Buckeyes game but don't want to play if the greens are not puttable.

I wast at Elks Run Friday and it was in AWFUL shape. It was my first time playing there and I was extremely disappointed.
I've played at Elks Run twice in the past 5 weeks and it is pretty beat up on several of the greens and a number of the teeboxes. I thought the fairways were fine and enjoyed the day overall.

I played at the Vineyards, which is a bit closer to me. It was a great deal for the price and I'd say it's in better shape overall vs Elks Run. I also got to play Kenwood for a charity scramble and they know how to take care of business there (a few small dry areas on a couple greens- it's tough with so little rain!).

Liberty Hills has been in great shape all year. :) The Windy Knoll greens- they look just like they've always looked. They're mowed tight and they're still fast. . . they just don't roll very true (if that makes sense). I don't know if people fix their ball marks wrong or what. They are just really bumpy is the only way to say it. I would definitely still play there if you've liked the course before. Maybe you should just hit it in closer than I did and not have to worry about the putting. Hahaha. In looking back I can really only think of 3 putts that I thought should have gone in that didn't because of the roll (on 11, 17, 18), but it was just kind of unsettling the rest of the time. Where are you coming from to watch football and where do you stay (maybe I could recommend some other courses if you really don't want to play Windy, although I think it's still really nice)?

All of you central Ohio wxers, I am staying close to home this weekend for the first time in a while. I wanna play somewhere close to the city on Sunday. I havent played much near Columbus this year, I know it is that time of year where things can get burnt out around here, any recomendations on good conditions?

Interesting round today...Shot a 79 today at Mayfair CC. Had a 36(+1) on the front, and a 43(+7) on the back. On the front I played the best golf I've ever played. Was hitting every fairway, was throwing everything right up at the pin, and was making some putts. The two bogies I had on the front were due to three putts. I bogied #1, par'd every hole until #8 which I bogied, and then made a nice birdie on #9. The back nine I could not get comfortable over the ball and my tee shots were everywhere, as well as my approaches and just couldn't make any pars.

Where it got interesting was on hole #13. We were on the green and it sounded like a couple of gunshots went off. We get up to the #14 tee box and the guy in front of us is on the phone with the police. Apparently some guy who lived in a house beside the course fired a couple of gunshots and they went flying accross the #14 tee box and whistled through the bushes and accross the #12 tee box which is right beside it and then must have came to a halt somewhere in the middle of the course. The guys in front of us went up to the man and he said that he was shooting at a ground hog and missed. The police showed up a couple minutes later and I'm not sure what went down, but definitely a scary moment which could have resulted in someone being seriously injured or killed.
