If your a Browns & TaylorMade fan, you might like this deal. It is the TM Browns 2012 hat. Ebay item # 280889726566. I ordered one and recieved it in 3 days and it is the real deal. For the price I was a little worried but all is good. I do not know the seller but just wanted to pass along a good deal to my fellow Ohio golfers.

Hey gang, I will be in Columbus for the Ohio State game vs. ill nov 3rd. and Hoping the weather is nice enough to play. I will be in the Worthington Area for the weekend, and I am looking for a nice course to play. I really want to play the Scarlet course, but I dont know anyone who can get my on. So i am looking for a really nice course I can get onto. Any suggestions in the area. I am looking on line, but I trust my fellow Wrx'ers more than on line reviews elsewhere. Thanks in Adv.

Just wondering about Scioto Reserve and Kinsale. I am not from the Columbus area, but will be coming up there one of these days to play these two courses. I was wondering what people thought about the two courses. Both being private, I would assume the conditions are pretty good? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Has anyone played Grey Hawk recently? Wondering how the conditions were?
We were supposed to have a Ryder Cup event there 2 weeks ago and they ended up moving it to another course because conditions were so bad!!!! I have not seen it myself but they said it was just awefull.

Here is the latest words from golfclevelandohio.com...

Once a top ten course in north east Ohio but downgraded in 2012. Serious problem have developed with the conditions on the fairways that raise the real posibility they might lose a lot of them. The greens and tees remain top notch but we have never seen a course get away from the greenskeeper like this. We hope they will make a recovery and we will keep a close eye on it, but for now, we are heartbroken about it.

Both are very well manicured and will be in fantastic shape. Scioto Reserve has a great layout and is a good course. Kinsale is decent, doesn't have many memorable holes but is still nice.

I was in Youngstown for 6months in the mid-1990s for business reasons. I was staying at the Holiday Inn on South Ave Mon-FRI.....I still have nightmares about that........LOL

I played a lot of golf....IMO, there weren't many public courses worth talking about. Avalon Lakes is probably the best public track in the area, but it's up in Warren. I thought Mill Creek was as good as anything and it's a metro-park muni. I honestly don't remember any nice golf courses in Youngstown and I played most of them.

What are your favorite courses in Youngstown area?

Kennsington in Canfield is a great course.

I was in Cincy this weekend and played Beckett Ridge GC while I was down there. Really nice course. I keep a list of all the courses I've played and I rank them from #1-35 in order of my favorite(nicest) to least favorite. I ranked it #6 on the list of 35 courses I've played. Couldn't beat the price either. #24 for 18 w/cart. And since this is an Ohio thread...how 'bout them Kent State Golden Flashes going to the College World Series! Truly an amazing season that hopefully keeps getting better!
We each rank things differently based on our own experience and what we consider important about golf courses. That being said, I am very suprised you rank it so high. I live in CIncinnati and play it a few times a year. WHile I like it, I don't consider it any better than the local muni courses (Sharon Woods, Vineyard, The Mill, etc..). There are at least 9 courses in the general Cincinnati area alone I would rank higher (Stonelick, Lassing Pointe, Heatherwoode, Legendary Run, Walden Ponds, Aston Oaks, Elks Run, Blue Ash, Shaker Run). What did you like about it?
I agree.....I think Beckett is very average at best. Every one you named there are better courses. Although I have only played Blue Ash once, and don't remember much about it. I played Stonelick yesterday, and the course was looking pretty good. It was the first time I have played there where I noticed some sandy areas around the collars of more then one green. Normally it's very hard to find anything wrong there. Although I just recently came back from Northern Michigan, and playing up there you get spoiled with the overall conditions, especially the greens. For this area, Stonelick is still as good as it gets. I have played Walden a few times this year already, and it's the best I have seen it in the past 10 years. No doubt. Apparently they hired a new greenskeeper a few years ago, and it's starting to show. I still haven't played Elks Run since they re-opened it. How are the conditions there right now? I used to play there a few times a year at least, but sort of was turned off once it was ran into the ground a few years back. Does anyone know anything about Sugar Valley up near Beavercreek? It's a private club in the area. I am supposed to play there soon, and never heard of it.
Beckett is one of those places that is overwhelmingly average, but thinks it is some elite track of golf goodness. Quite frankly, that goes double for Shaker Run and Stonelick. I have played Stonelick 3 straight years in our tournament series and for 3 straight years that course has been in bad shape and not even CLOSE to worth the $75 they charge to play it. The top 5 public courses in the area that I think you could go to and see in good shape any time of year, be a challenging layout, and have aesthetics are:

1) Yankee Trace
2) Heatherwoode
3) Walden Pond
4) Beavercreek
5) Belterra
5-a) Hamilton Elks - private course that allows tee times as "trial". Donald Ross design
5-b) Legendary Run - has always been great shape until drought then massive rainfall combo hit it back to back in consecutive years

A few courses that do not make the cut, but people in the area should play at least once for various reasons:

1) Neumann - just to find the yardage marker on the ground of the par 5 that says "Just hit it"
2) Hueston Woods - an underated course for the views it provides...including those of the Miami university girls in springtime! Course plays sneaky long and has one of the most daunting par 3 shots in the city with the 16th hole.
3) Circling Hills - shortish course that was in surprisingly good shape through one of the worst droughts i have seen. Solid course layout with some challenging longish par 3's
4) Potter's Park - dates to 1929. Front side is moderately long, back 9 is extremely short. Par is 69 here and when you have a 5 cap walk off after shooting an 83, shaking their head and muttering to themselves about how that happened, it can make for a good day. If you can par all 5 par 3's, then you have done something special. This place has been in superb conditions through the last few bad years of drought.
5) Indian Ridge - a course you would rather play BEFORE the droughts hit. They irrigate with runoff from their ponds, so late year can be dicey unless it is a wet summer. It is a VERY sneaky course and the tips are big boy long. You can score here, but you cannot show the course any fear or it will devour you. Take advantage on the front and hold on for dear life on the back (but you at least have to punch it in the throat once or twice on the back to show that you do not fear it). Nearly every green on the course is fast from front to back and do NOT believe your eyes. Play every green to be sloped away from you except for #5 which is supremely obvious in its slope.

I agree with Yankee Trace and Heatherwoode being two of the best courses to play day in and day out. The conditions at those two are normally very good...especially Heatherwoode. I play there about 15 times a year at least. I am not quite sure when you play Stonelick each year, but I play there at least 3 or 4 times a year, and I have never seen it in bad shape, except the end of this past season with some trouble around the greens. Although for $75, you're right, it wasn't nearly worth that at the end of last year. Shaker may never be what it once was, that is a shame. Hopefully this new ownership will continue to make improvements. I can't imagine them ever getting the necessary people to go private, which is the plan. Walden has only just begun to get back to where it used to be, thanks to a new greenskeeper. Only problem there is the slow play can be painful. Most of the courses you listed as other ones to play are ok, but Potters? Unless you're over the age of 60, or a little kid learning to play, I would stay away from Potters. If you want to thump your chest and try and shoot an under par round, then give it a try I guess.

I'm trying to plan my first buddies trip, I live in Columbus Ohio and will probably have between 4 to 8 guys going. We range from players who shoot in the low 80s to over 100 and I would like to try to please everyone. Not all the guys are golf freeks like me but are probably only viewing this trip as a way to get out of town for the weekend. I want a course that's challenging and in good condition. We only want to travel at tops 5 hrs and some of the guys have a max budget of $350 for hotel and golf only. It would be just a weekend trip 2 nights and at minimum 2 rounds of golf. I know about resorts like Oglebay which could work. The other resorts that I know of are a little two nice like French Link, Greenbriar and probably too difficult for most of the guys. I heard Michigan had a lot of nice courses but I think most of them are located in northern Michigan which is a little to far of a drive for most. I also posted this as a topic but figured i could ask it here since most of you have traveled to neighboring states to play.

I've never had my irons fitted to my swing but I'm seriously considering getting them custom fitted who would you suggest going to around Ohio. I would like to stay around central Ohio but depending on how far of a drive and they are really good I would probably drive around an hour. I wish I had the cash to get new irons but that's out of the question right now. Also is there a big difference between going somewhere thar has trackman or just going to golftec at golfsmith?

I would say Olgebay is honestly your best bet. 2 good courses there on site and a casino. Great for a guys trip. Plus it's less than 3 hours from Columbus. When I did the trip we stayed at a Marriott about a mile from the casino and golf course. It saved like $150 a night.

Another option, which is what I did last year and am doing this year is Cincy. We left cbus Friday night, caught a reds game, went out hard in downtown Cincy Friday night, stayed in downtown, then played belterra Saturday and went to the casino Saturday night. Belterra's golf isn't quite as good as Olgebay, but the casino is 10x better. At belterra we again stayed offsite but te hotel was owned by the casino and had a free 24 hour shuttle. Saved us another $200 per night.

For a golf trip on a budget from Columbus those are the two best options I've found.

If you had another day I would make the drive to Michigan. Traverse city, Gaylord, petoskey, etc all have outstanding golf and a lot of other fun factors to throw in.

Par golf on sawmill road is awesome. Small shop with a bunch of just gear heads working in there. Super nice guys, extemely knowledgeable and will always take care of you. I have stopped in there a few times to have a wedge ground or bent or reapoxied and they did it for free on the spot for me. And I've only bought a few things in there.

My buddy got his Mizunos fitted there. They are a awesome shop.

Idk about GolfTEC as I've never been. I hear they are pretty good.

If I have what iron or brand I want narrowed down then I will see if there is a preferred fitter in town. For instance, Scioto CC is a titleist preferred fitter. This means they have all the shaft combos/upgrades. For instance when I got my AP2s I was able to hit them with the S400 shaft in it.

Thanks for the advice on both of my posts. I think I might make the trip to oglebay since some of the guys don't want to golf as much as I want to so they can go to the casino while I'm still golfing. I wanted to golf 18 on Friday 36 on Saturday and then 18 on Sunday then drive home. I've heard oglebay books up quick and was it hard to get tee times since you didn't stay at there resort? I would love to do the trip to Michigan but I think that would involve a different group that primarily focuses on golf plus needs to be longer because its great golfing up there. I was also referred to Indiana where you can play 4 of the top 15 courses in the state that are all within 30 minutes for around $400 for golf and rooms.

As for the fitting since I'm not buying new irons I probably just go to golftec or New Albany CC since they have a taylormade preformance center and that's what irons I have now.

After doing some more research on fitters I found one out at Granville Golfland who has a trackman and can hit outside and I was wondering if anyone has been there to be fitted or know of anybody? Just trying to get some reviews. I tried getting some other reviews on another thread and didn't get much so I thought I would try here too. Also does it matter that its winter and I want to get fitted outside or should i wait till it warms up since the ball doesn't travel as far in the cold weather? Thanks!

I have, many times. Maybe the best greens I've ever putted on... defintiely the best I putted on last year. Very challenging course, good test of driving and did I mention how good the greens are? Very firm and fast.

I dont think getting fit outside will affect the trackman results too much. You may have slightly less spin due to the ball compressing less, but, I wouldn't expect it to impact the overall fitting. The fact that the Air is more dense in the winter plays a significantly larger role than anything. That would not impact the trackman results.

For what it's worth I got fitted for my AP2s on a very cold morning in November 2011.

There are a ton of private courses in dayton that are great. If you ever get a chance to play NCR South or Moraine jump on it. Best courses in the city.
