Birdied my first hole played this year on Friday. Gotta love this Ohio winter! :yahoo:

That's awesome, where did you play?

I was supposed to go to the Golf Show in Cleveland on Saturday, but I ended up playing outside instead (couldn't resist). Played 18 at Briardale Greens in Euclid. Flat/boring course, but I was just happy to be out there. Temps were around 40, but felt like 30 with the wind chill. It was the coldest I have ever been on a golf course, but well worth it!

10 day forecast through the end of February does not look good for golf in NE Ohio. Hopefully, March will be kind to us this year!

Got out for my first time in 2012 today.. Played the Phoenix lol... Started off pretty slow with a 44 on the front but dialed it in a little and drained a 12 footer on 18 for a 39... Pretty happy all things considered

I pulled out some Nike Power Distance Women balls from my fiancées bag haha... They held up really well actually... I figured they had to react in the cold better than the Bridgestone 330X and the ProvXs I have sitting at home

Liberty Hills in Bellefontaine. We had the golf show in Columbus a few weekends ago. A couple of years we've gone and then found a course that's open on the way home. Could have done it weather-wise this year, too, but had to get home.

Small world, I have played Liberty Hill many times. I am from Cincinnati but my in-laws have a place at Indian Lake and 3 to 4 times a year we will take a weekend up there and play a round at Liberty Hills. Nice little track with nice greens. The two nines are verey different.

I have relatives in Cincy...what courses do you play down there? I've been to Sharon Woods, Eagles' Nest, and Hickory Woods. Sharon Woods was by far my favorite of the three I played. Hickory Woods was a nice little course too. Eagles' Nest was ok. Nothing special.

I play a lot of courses down in Cinci. Some of my favorites are Lassing Pointe, Legendary Run, Heatherwoode, Stonelick Hills and Walden Ponds. I do play Sharon Woods quite a bit since it is somewhat close to my house. Hickory woods is ok and I think Eagles nest is long gone and no longer a golf course.

Full disclosure- I work at LH. Glad you enjoy it. You're right, the 2 9's are VERY different. Not uncommon for people to be 5 shots lower on the back. And I'm with you, I hope March isn't too rough.

I was able to get out today and played seven holes at my home course before it got dark. Started off with three bogies, then doubled and came back with three par's. Ended up +5 after 7. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow before baseball practice and finish that 9 and play the back as well.

Overall I felt REALLY good about my game today. I hit the weight room really hard this winter and it's really paying off. I was hitting the ball a good 5-10 yards farther this year and that's in 40° weather, soggy fairways, and still a little snow on the ground so I'm sure it'll be at least a 15-20 yard increase when it warms up and the course dries out. My ballstriking was way better than I expected it to be since I've been swinging a baseball bat for the last two months and I haven't swung a golf club since New Years. After I warmed up with a few balls on the range my ballstriking hadn't missed a beat since last season. Really excited for this season to get started and warm weather to arrive!

I can tell I'm going to have a good year on the course! You guys who are coming to the outing better look out! I'm gonna be coming into the outing ON FIRE! Hehe...I hope! :drinks:

Played yesterday at my home course, The Fairways at Arrowhead, and shot a 39(+4)! I'm always happy when I shoot in the 30's, but yesterday was extra special to me. It was 37° and windy as hell. In between shots I had to put a pair of winter gloves on to keep my hands warm, lol. I left a couple shots out on the course too. I bogied the hole that is by far the easiest on the course, #6(a little 490 yard Par 5). I had an easy PW into the green and came up short of the green and made bogey. Then on #8 I crushed my drive right down the middle and had a PW into the green again. I thought it was gonna come up short but it ended up being pin-high, about 20 feet away. Crushed that putt a good 7-10 feet passed the hole(lol) so I 3-putt that green for bogey. :russian_roulette: Could've easily tied my career low nine-hole round, 37, but in those conditions, I'll gladly take that 39.

Going out again today to play nine holes...today it's a little colder but not quite as windy. But today, I've got some "off and on" snow flurries to deal with so it should be interesting. I just need to keep reminding myself I need to play smart and focus on every shot and I feel like I could be in the 30's again. No reason I shouldn't be consistently shooting in the 30's this season.

So a buddy and I want to start playing some competitive golf. Where can I find some good Ametuer tournaments in Columbus? Im not sure im ready yet to play something that isnt handicapped or at least isnt flighted (im a 5 index) but who knows i have been putting in a lot of hardwork this off-season and have rededicated my game. I've been between a 5 and 7 for the past 4 years and prior to this winter I had only hit balls on the range without playing twice in that time frame.

My goal is to actually practice and work on my deficiencies and hopefully get down below a 3 by year's end. Either way, I'd love to play in a tournament or two this summer. any ideas?

I'd be in for sure if I didn't have baseball. Let me know if you find anything later this season. I've got baseball until the end of May.

Got a chance to hit Lakeview with my golf buddies, since it was so beautiful Course is still pretty damp though, so much so you could feel the turf moving under your feet.

Got off to a bad start, but improved throughout the round. It was obvious that not having a chance to warm up hurt (no driving range there). Got one par on a par three, so I'll take that for the start of the season.

Hah will do, just need to knock the rust off my game first. Lake view is a nice nine hole course...you have to pass it (essentially) to get out to seven hills. Not a lot of sand...a few water elements...honestly kind or narrow most holes (or at least it feels that way). Best part is that it is $6 for a round of golf with walking cart.

I played there this afternoon and shot a 37. Almost got my first ever eagle on #18! My drive hit the green and bounced over and my chip coming back hit the flag stick but didn't go down. Then I missed a short putt and had to settle for a par. My drives were really bad but since it's a pretty short course it was easy to make up for it.

Yea #9 at Lakeview is a great risk/reward hole that is easy to drive if you can get it there. There was one occasion where me and two of my buddies went ahead and teed off while the group in front of us was finishing up the whole. None of us had driven the ball particularly well, so we thought we were safe. We proceeded to all plant the green while they were putting. In hindsight, obviously poor etiquette, but none of us had expected to hit the green.

I'm curious what you thought of hole #3, that nice long narrow trip into the trees. Also curious to hear which hole was your favorite.

Glad to hear you got to play, now I'm worried to hit up the course with you, haha. You'll probably smoke me. All in good fun though.

#3 is the hole that goes up the hill with trees on both sides isn't it? If that's #3 I thought it was a cool little hole. I wasn't really a big fan though because I don't really care too much for blind tee shots. I like being able to see the landing zone unless I've played it enough to know it pretty well.

I'd say my favorite hole was #6(I think). It might've been #7, I can't remember which hole it is but it's the hole by the road that's goes a little left and has the swamp left and behind the green and water up to the right of the green. The only reason I liked it was probably because I birdied it, lol. I liked #9 too.

Have you ever played Edgewood? It's another 9 hole course with a great driving range. It's not far from Lakeview. Just right down Route 43 from Lakeview and you're there. I'm playing there tomorrow morning for the first time in three years. Haven't played there since my first season playing so I'm pretty excited to see what I shoot there since it's the course I first took up the game on.

I agree, it does bother me that you can't see the pin. Just a hit, hope, and pray type hole, haha

I believe that is #5 that goes along the road. I like the challenge of that hole because of how small that green is with the swamp and pond right there. #6 is the dog leg back through the trees, #7 is the par three with the huge back to front slope.

Honestly didn't know about Edgewood, I'll have to try that out sometime soon.

You familiar with Lyons Den any? Might sign up to do a league there. If I already asked you that, then pardon my brain fart lol
