Best irons ever made?

Add another vote for eye2's.

25 years of technological advancement later and they aren't to far off today's clubs.

TaylorMade 2005 TP CB's have my vote. I had 4 sets of those before the stupid groove rule kicked in. not the most forgiving cavity back but easy to work, flight and I don't think I ever hit a fat shot with them. I'm still on my search to find something like them and nothing has compared to them yet.

You can't limit it to just one set so here is my list.

As others have said ping eye2 are second to none in their impact on club design and their longevity.
Maxfli A10 tour are the best combo set ever made. Honorable mention to KZG Evolution.
TM 300 and Tourstage Z101 are at the top of the list of players cb.
Mizuno mp 29 (US retail version of TN87) are top of the blades along with WS fg17, Macgregor 1025m and Tourstage 2005 X blades.
Best GI iron Mizuno mx 25.
Best SGI Callaway BB 2004.

with the science behind the design... Miura makes the best club in terms of quality. PING EYE2 were a game changer with a brilliant perimeter weighting although they are among the fugliest clubs of all time. they look like a piece of scrap metal abstract art to me

Just to clarify, I was told by a manager at GG that Eye2s are the best selling irons of all time, followed by TA 845s.

And have to agree the Mizuno MP14s were some of the most butter irons I've ever touched.

One point of clarification- if the OP is asking about best irons ever, as in "[b][i]what I would play today if I could play any iron ever produced, including current models[/i][/b]?" then my answer is my Adams MB2.

If the OP is asking about what set of irons were the most ground-breaking in its day, or best for a certain historical period, my answer would obviously be different, but I don't think that was the original question.

If you don't think it's the EYE2 you obviously weren't playing golf went they came out. Back then muscleback blades were considered a 'game improvement' club. What's more is Pros and hacks alike flocked to them, especially the wedges. Ever since then clubs became easier to hit and perimeter weighting became the norm. Thank God.
