I think the Titleist DCI series spawned the most copies by other brands. The DCI 962 still looks like a fresh design almost 20 years after they were introduced. Taylormade, Muira, Adams and many other brands have made irons that look remarkably similar.

Callaway Mavrik 10.5* HZRDS 6.0 55g

Here is a list of my favorites:
MacGregor M85 Colorchromes, maybe the prettiest iron ever, they looked like jewels not tools.
Wilson Staff blades from the 60's and 70's, seemed like 1/2 the tour played them.
Ping Eye 2-a game changer
Tommy Armour 845. Knocked the Eye 2 off it's mantle, blade like profile with forgiveness, the beginning of players cavities.
Hogan Apex 88 "redlines" in my opinion the best blade ever
Big Bertha irons- the ultimate shovel, made under cut cavities the norm, SGI revolution.
Ping I3, could get the O-size or blades, mix or match.
Mizuno MP 50 series, forged goodness with forgiveness.
Original Nike blades-pure class
MP 14 or 29
Mizuno MX 25
Titlest AP 2's
Taylor Made Rocket balz-hate to say it but the long bombing distance iron is here to stay, not my cup of tea but the TM marketing machine has them in lots of bags.
Jpx 800 pros-because they are in my bag.

Ping G400 Testing G410.  10.5 set at small -
Ping G410 3, 5 and 7 wood

Ping G410 5 hybrid-not much use.
Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal. 5-G
Vokey 54.10, 2009 58.12 M, Testing TM MG2 60* TW grind and MG3 56* TW grind.  Or Ping Glide Stealth, 54,58 SS.
Odyssey Pro #1 black
Hoofer, Ecco, Bushnell
ProV1x-mostly

Ram Tour Grind Axial Blades, Titleist AC108's, Ping Eye 2's, Titleist DCI Black or DCI-B's, TaylorMade ICW5's, Maxfli Aussie Blades TM-92, Mizuno TP-21's, Grads and TN 87's or 91's, Ping S59's (first iron with rubber insert). Seems to me any other irons are really variants of these designs.

Interesting post. I have 2 sets of TG Axial blades and these are near the top of my list. Love the Aussie blades as well.

For everyone proclaiming the Eye 2's I have one simple question. Can you actually stand to look at these nowadays? Seriously? I know they are Iconic and the BeCu's are real classy but the freakin offset is horrendous!!! I can't do it. Just can't. How can these cast twisted GI clubs whose sole purpose was to make the game easier rather than make the player better be all that? Yes, I've owned a few and the mystique quickly dissipated. No comprendo. Kinda like saying the best car ever made was an automatic.

I am definitely no club ho...

I have played 2 sets of what I think are great classic irons (for a 12hcp)

Ping Eye2
Callaway x-14

I just ordered the next "classic" (IMO), the Ping G25 will be played for years to come I believe.

Eye 2's were an original design, just b-ugly. It wasn't until companies like Titleist started making cavity backs that looked similar to blades that forged blades really became a "specialty" club, only for low handicaps (and not that many of those).

IMO the DCI 962 (and Titleist DTR before it) was a groundbreaking design that was widely copied. Two other designs that were imitations of the DCI are the Taylormade 300 forged and the Callaway X-14. Take a look at the thin topline and minimal offset. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I recently bought a set of Progressives. Played them years ago and never forgot. Toying with the idea of sending the heads to The Iron Factory for restoration. Could just raw them also, or use some of that gun blue stuff. Haven't decided yet. At any rate, love the club shape and traditional lofts.

I played some of the best rounds of my life with those irons. I have been on a search every since to find something similar. I just cant find the same top line and square toe ANYWHERE! I talk to most club fitters/ golf shop employees and they have no idea what I am talking about and look at me like I have three heads. I kick myself everytime I think about giving them to my buddy. Good luck and keep me posted on what you do with them.

Never tried the consensus favorite, Eye2's, but my next set might be G25's, which I agree might be the next classic.
What I have owned and played extensively, I call it a tie between my current Adams CB2's and Srixon i302's. The CB2's are more forgiving than the Srixons, but the Srixons owned it for looks, feel, and a good amount of forgiveness, with less offset.
