judging players by their bags

You played by the rules so Ill grab yours.

The first thing in sharp relief is that you live in AK and have Dalys putter. Put that in with the low loft driver and a 14 degree fairway and I see a brother with some speed. I guessing you sleep with that 64 for fear of it going missing. No brand loyalty either. You are not a dude I would start pressing too early that's for sure. Probably got a nice tan and drink domestic beer. I'm also guessing that there is a set of plus 4s in the closet for special occasions. You play a semi low screaming cut that works really well in the wind but hit 3 wood on anything but a dead straight fairway and the S56 is for doglegs, either direction, doesn't matter.

36 holes on a single ball happens allot.

everything but the low cut. I hit a high ball. :D

That's how you do a mixed bag.

Definitely a good player but not as good as you used to be, hence the MPH5 4iron and higher lofted woods (no offense).

Definitely appreciate feel over distance, and have the ability to shape some shots if you want to, but likely prefer a straighter ball. Good short game.

Anywhere close?

I did one of these a long time ago but the bag has changed.

Wh, kind of. Best I've ever been. No sure why an 11* driver and sometimes a 5 wood indicates "not as good as once was". Rarely ever hit a straight ball, prefer to shape it. Do have a good short game.

What would Bernhard Langer's bag cost, retail now (many clearly used prices, 15+ years old)

Other than the Taylor-made M-series driver ($500), the Vokey and RTX 2.0 wedges ($140 each) the rest of the clubs would be $10 each, or less.

I would say you are a good golfer with a handicap of 3. You hit it about 260 yards off the tee and rely on your good short game to score low. That Bettinardi Putter signifies that you have found something you like and are comfortable with. You like to attack or lay up on most par 5's with your 3 iron. You are very good off the tee with the 3 iron and can use it on short par 4's. I would definitely stay away from a match with you if I saw that bag next to mine on the putting green.

You are fairly young, around 30 years old, and swing around 103 mph, hence the 3 iron. Your 3 and five woods tell me you like what works, not whats new. I am sure the Rocketballz is a beast off the tee. With your irons, although not the stiffest shafts, you hit the ball quite high, which the project x helps you with. The strength of your game is definitely your wedge game, where you are a very versatile player who likes to use his pm grind out of the bunkers. The old scotty is your most trusted club and is always reliable. You would never get rid of it, through thick and thin. With this bag, you normally shoot around 79-84.

You’re an equipment guy. Looking at your driver, the shaft isn’t off the rack. It’s stout and tip stiff. I’m thinking your usually a high launch guy. 3 wood is the smaller head. Maybe you’ve been playing golf for a longer period of time when smaller heads were more prevalent. Or you just prefer a compact look. 5 wood is probably your best club in the bag. You lean on it to get you out of tough spots. It’s not a newer club but something you’ve hit some killer shots with. This was probably bought before equipment knowledge took a foothold. Irons being 4-9 tell me you’re a control player with your irons. You recognize there’s probably an overlap if you were to carry 3i and 5 wood. They’re older, more compact irons. No PW tells me you’re confident in your MB style wedges. The S300s are a good shaft and probably fit your swing. Wedges are newer. You spend money where it’s important. Putter tells me again you spend it where it counts.

If I had to guess, I’d say 30s or 40s. 7 cap.

Based on your irons and the loft intervals of your wedges, you are a very precise distance guy. You carry driver, 3 and 5 woods in order to position yourself off the tee to have a good full swing into the green. You have varied bounce options on your wedges because you tend to play different courses and different conditions. I'm guessing a 8-9 handicap who could drop it down to a 5 or so if you had more time to play. You do not care whether the brands match or not, if the club fits in the gap you are looking for you are using it.

Ok, I'll play...

Murray...

The top of you're bag screams connoisseur, those are some of the best woods ever made, letting go of my 9064ls is one of my only regrets.

Which leads to a surprising iron/wedge set... The 25's are a bit bigger with a fair amount of offset, I'm going to guess that you learned on or gamed something like the Ping Eye 2's or something similar and like the classic ping look. As these irons aren't really conducive to moving the ball around I would guess you play a pretty straight ball and don't take a lot of risks on course. Fairways, greens, you make a lot of pars and the occasional bird but you're not one for going low or stringing birds together, however you almost never double or worse... You beat opponents with diesel engine like consistency and avoiding silly mistakes. You give thought to where you leave you're ball in regards to you're next shot and avoid being out of position leaving difficult followup shots.

The putter tells me you have good touch, and enjoy, and practice putting a lot, I bet you could 2 putt from the parking lot.

My Bag:

D1: Taylormade M3 9.5 1 click open. 44.5" Aldila Phene'd 70TX tipped .75"

3W: '17 Taylormade M2 15. 42.5" Aldila Green Mamba 80tx tipped .5"

DI: Dynacraft 18 deg. Driving iron Bent to 16 degrees and open. 40" Oban Prototype hybrid shaft (it's got no markings whatsoever but it has Stiff AF written on butte :).

Red, White, and Blue Sun Mountain 4.5 stand bag, and I have a Black leather Driver headcover with a giant white stitched Punisher Skull on it.

I’d say def a big hitting, former D1 player type who gets it going left a bit too much.

I’m new to these forums but would love to hear what people think of my set up:

For me if I see someone with with Nike clubs I always assume that they take the game pretty seriously not sure why, the fact that they are blades means you must be confident with your ballstriking so I know I'm in for a good matchup. I Would assume you are low or scratch

You’ll find a few scratches on my scorecard. If blessed a birdy but I’m not that good. High/mid 80’s low 90’s. I have my days. I’m a two putt chump, I’ll be honest. I need more practice with the flat stick. That’s where I struggle. I do take the game serious tho... you can say too serious at times.

If people looked at my bag, I'd think they would overestimate my game. Really shouldn't be playing blades, per conventional knowledge. But they've been the best game improvement irons anyone could play with. They taught me to relax, grip easy, swing freely with loose wrists and shoulders, concentrate on the task at hand, etc. The downside is the 15-20 loss in distance if I don't hit it dead nuts.

Now that I've gotten to be a much better ballstriker I'm going to reverse the process and go get some more forgiving clubs that will still give me the distance on off-center hits. Of course, then, maybe people will underestimate my game when I go out there with cavities.

My next setup, as soon as I'm done paying off my house (about 5 or 6 more months):

Driver: Wilson Staff FG Tour F5 (Stiff Shaft and set to 11*). I play this now set at 11*, and hit it like my old 8*. Medium ball flight. 240-250 of carry and 20 of roll.

3W: Wilson Staff FG Tour F5 (Regular Shaft and set to 14*). I play this now, and hit bombs with it. 225 average carry with a few yards of roll. Can muscle to 235.

5W: Wilson Staff D200 (Regular Shaft / 18*). Buying soon. Hit the other day. Routine 210 carry, HIGH, can go to 220 if I pure it with optimum clubhead speed.

Irons, I'm debating the following:

JPX 919 Hot Metals 4-PW (TT XP 95's in S300). Lamkin UTx Midsize Grips

Hogan PTX 4-PW (KBS Tour 90's in stiff). Lamkin UTx Midsize Grips

Gap / Sand / Lob: Hogan Equalizer. I was fortunate to get to hit these and holy crap, these are FANTASTIC wedges. They get no mainstream love, but I'll stack those up against any wedge on the market.

The only other variable I'm considering is dropping in a 7w and shelving the 4i. I'm going to get tht 4-PW set, then will make up my mind after seeing how I hit it. I know my current 4i (KZG blades) has the sweet spot of a pea. When pured, it goes 195-200. Every other time (90% of the time, if I'm even a little bit off, it goes about 175-180.

Now I gotta get a new bag !!!! I want something with a putter well/tube. Most likely gonna go with a cart bag because I already have a stand bag. I love the Sun Mountain C130 but dammit, I can't stand the graphics on it. Any other bags worth checking out? Also considering the Wilson Staff NFL bags.

To your previous posts on irons, I’m going to similar route. Going from demanding, MP64 to P790 because I think the additional forgiveness may help me squeeze out one to two more shots per round (current 5 handicap). That said, my son who is 13 plays a set of 900 hot metals and every once in awhile I hit them and wonder why I don’t have a set in the bag.
