[But really...with how he played so far, is there any question that Tiger Woods was not a better pick than some of the guys who played good golf down the stretch?
Of course there is a question. It is silly to say that Tiger was a better pick than Keegan when Tiger is 0-2 going into today. Tiger has played well but you have absolutely no way of knowing how Keegan or anyone else would have done instead. I do know this though: nobody else would have lost more matches than Tiger has so far.
That's my point. It can't be any worse than it has been so far.

I may have misworded my post. Tiger has not contributed to any wins yet. Bradley, or any other golfer, MAY have done better. I wish Captain Couples would have gone with a guy who was playing better golf at the time of selection.
It could have been worse.
If it was Bradley/Stricker or Bradley/DJ, Norman might have used a non-winning team to take them down and Scott/Choi and Day/Badds could have beaten one of the winning US teams.

I'll just say that its good to see Tiger playing well in this thing.
He has played well, with the exception of that one drive in a bush day one, he hasn't been erratic at all. It's nice to see him actually swinging hard again and being the only guy to reach the par 5 15th in two yesterday. But, you have to hand it to the guys he played against, they shot better scores in the end.

I agree.

All you can do is play your own game. Shoot the best score you can and if the guy you are playing against beats you then so be it.

I've seen no reason to think that Tiger was a poor pick for this team. He has played good, better than quite a few guys who made the team, you just can't control your opponents game or the game of your playing partners.

^^^ i agree as well. woods have been playing solid. badds made some pretty damn good putts and shots yesterday or he would be 1-1. the US team looks good to defend the cup.

So Tiger get's his shot to redeem the slaughter of day 1.

7:00 AM Simpson/Watson Allenby/Ogilvy
7:12 AM Haas/Kuchar Els/Ishikawa
7:24 AM Mahan/Toms Goosen/Schwartzel
7:36 AM Woods/Johnson Scott/Choi
7:48 AM Mickelson/Furyk Baddeley/Day
1. Simpson /Watson take this. They are really complimenting each other nicely, it is a huge lift for this team and they are running on nothing but confidence. Allenby was an iffy pick and just doesn't seem to have it.

2. This should go our way too. Why put Ishikawa back out there - what is Greg doing? This may be a gift.

3. Mahan /Toms looked awesome on alternate shot, they play a very similar game. Is see the US winning this one also, but I think it will be close.

4. See two above. The gift received is now returned. I hate this US pairing. We are going to get waxed. Unless this is some sort of Muhammad Ali rope-a-dope strategy, it makes NO sense our our part.

5. US takes this one. Badds/Day are going to stumble, but this time against a VERY solid team who will take the advantage.

So I see the morning going decesively in our favor. Why the Tiger-Scott pairing again? It makes no sense from the International's POV. Tiger/DJ should be playing a lesser caliber team. Scott/Choi should be playing Furyk/Mick and Badds/Day should be playing Mahan/TOms. I think that gives the INT a better shot at winning more points. I thinks Goose/Schwartz can dominate Tiger/DJ. Why not put Watney out there with Tiger?

And who sits this afternoon? DJ and Mahan?

Tiger played well and if DJ had shown up, they would have won. Baddley putted lights out and carried Day who played poorly IMO. I think playing on very fast rockhard greens with the severity of slope, in that wind undermines the event by not rewarding good golf shots and putting too much luck into the equation. Golf already is too much of a putting contest.

What was the order of the picks?
Who picked second in the 4th round?

I would have left Watney with Haas and put Kuchar with Woods.

I am not sure, I am making assumptions, but if you are Greg, you have to know Mick/Furyk is the Anchor Team at this point.

If you are trying to HIDE a bad player it is better to have that person out there later when your partner can pick you up. So why put DJ out there this morning? Watney played better so far IMO.

"I think" and "I don`t think" are not statements of facts.
Equating these words with the claim of knowing the scores in hypothetical matches does not make any sense at all.

Do you know the difference between the words could and would?

Just because it went right over your head doesn`t mean otherwise.

The question was a legitimate reaction to ridiculous illogic.
Just because you perceive something to be insulting does not mean there was any such intent.

Not sure what the point of Phil needing a putting coach was based on my comments about Tiger, but no I don't think he does. I personally think that just puts way more thoughts and technique in both of their heads. They both always have had terrific feel and that is most important in putting. I will say Phil would need it before Tiger though. As good of a putter as Phil has been at times he was never close to Tiger - especially when it had to be made.

As far as sitting someone out, I think it would be Tiger and DJ. I doubt very much that Freddie will sit Tiger but maybe it would piss him off enough to get his sh!t in gear. Plus maybe he could practice his old putting stroke all morning and finally make something.
Did you see Tiger eagle putt today that he miss by a inch? How about his 25 foot putt that he put in the center of the cup. I didn't see any of that from Phil today.
Watching the highlights it showed how much tigers partners really did not contribute at all. Dj had zero birdies!
Exactly, I watched the whole thing. Tiger looked fine.
Yes, Tiger did look FINE. That is it though, FINE. I still don't understand your point of Phil's putting versus Tigers. Phil has nothing to do whatsoever with Tiger and his struggles putting. His back nine putting potentially cost him the Masters this year and it sure isn't getting any better. Yes those TWO of 18 putts looked really good. I can't believe the eagle putt actually turned out of the hole that close. I am a big Tiger fan and really hope he gets back to dominating again, but I am being objective and his putting has been bad - especially in that 10 to 20 foot range where he has a lot of birdie putts and used to make a LOT of them. He hasn't made ANY of those in two days. Hopefully that changes today.

My whole point is why in the world when you were one of, if not the greatest pressure putter of all time, would you go changing your technique and approach to putting. He clearly was dedicating most of his practice time to ball striking and lost his feel, but that is no reason to go and change technique. He just needed to put the time back in practicing.

1. It's gonna be another Webb and Bubba show.
2. I love Ryo but he's personal issues "the gf" is on his mind. USA takes it.
3. IMO a coin flip. I give the edge to USA because the Hunter/Toms are very comfortable with each other.
4. Man I would love to see Tiger whoop some butt but without DJ's help. KJ/Scott will take this one.
5. Another coin flip, I give it to USA because of their experience. Young guns, Badds and Day can go off and shoot 4or5 under.

I would love to see the top US team Webb/Bubba go against the top International team of Scott/Choi.

I don't get it either. Tiger was the greatest putter I have ever seen and then he changed putters and changed his stroke. Why would you mess with perfection? Johnny Miller had a great comment yesterday on that really long putt that just missed. Johnny said that those used to go in and he was right, I really think the old Tiger would have made it.

He claims, as most of us may know, that he wanted to match his putter release point to match up with his full swing release point. Chips too.
One release point for all the swings. Sounds like it makes sense, but hasn't worked out. Putting is so feel and instinct reliant. Seems weird.
