Yes, I miss playing golf 8 days a week. Tournaments every weekend. Watering the local public course at night. Drinking illegally. Hitting it in the crap half the time. Saving par on most of those. Making every putt I looked at. (can't make squat now). I miss my Daiwa blades, Tp mills putter, and 6.5 degree drivers. I miss the hair on top of my head. I miss not having hair everywhere else. But more than anything, I miss the dream. I used to think that someday I would wake up and find the Secret to this game. Never did, never will and it sucks. But I have great memories of trying to get better everyday and getting to play my first love everyday.

I miss this putter, sometimes i take it for a round.

Oh god no. My dad gave me that putter as a hand me down. It's the same size as the 7 wood he also gave me haha. I'm pretty sure my putter played at 36", wayy too long for me.

90's - no golf clubs, but many guitars and Marshall stacks
2010's - one guitar, no Marshall and three sets of clubs.

Name's the same, but the toys were changed to protect the innocent.

Same boat. I kept the guitars and clubs, got rid of the amps.

I miss when the evolution of players clubs/blades was at it's peak in terms of play-ability, looks and feel. That's pretty much between 98-05. The original RAC MB's, MaxFli TM-92's, Mizuno TN 87's (if you even knew about them back then...), 300 Forged, 99 Apex's, etc. etc. etc. I could go on and on but from an iron perspective, that was probably the best stretch of players clubs to ever come around. Cleveland also made a mean wedge at that time from what I hear. ;)

Late '90s would be perfect. The Las Vegas sportsbook scene was like theft. Actually, it was theft, from a handful of sportsbook managers who were putting up intentionally bad numbers and allowing certain guys to bet into them, with a chunk of the profit shoveled back into their pockets. Millions upon millions. Mirage was example #1 and MGM #2. The MGM guy got caught and run out of the business but the Mirage guy is still around -- elsewhere -- and somehow has escaped the full story being told. Unbelievable, for those of us who saw what was going on.

The third or fourth bites were normally good enough for huge advantage. If the chosen ones were hung over from the night before you might actually get a crack at the opening number, then have to sweat whether the manager would allow you to keep it. I can't count how many times we'd grab an intentionally bad NFL prop number on early Sunday mornings at the Mirage sister property Treasure Island, then the Mirage honcho would literally get on the microphone from the Mirage and matter of factly announce we had to turn in the tickets for refund, or be excluded permanently from all Mirage properties.

Golfwise, I loved to belt my Hogan Grinds during that time frame. I carried a Bubble Burner 8.5 Tour but otherwise 1-E Hogans and a Bullseye Wide Blade putter. No fairway woods.

One of the sad moments of my life was the recognition that I could no longer blast the Grind long irons off the turf. Turned into low pushes about 5 or 6 years ago.

Thats when I fell in love with golf, so yeah, I miss it a lot:

1) I miss that golf wasn't really "cool", you were kind of in a unique group if you played golf
2) I miss old school club pros, the guy in the shop who was 50 years old, drank entirely too much, yet could really play golf.
3) I miss that people bought clubs from pro shops and they were actually stocked.
4) I miss the gold boxes that titleist professionals came in.
5) I miss the sound of metal spikes on concrete.
6) I miss the old bag room, I had entirely too much fun in there.
7) I miss that there were not so many daily fee golf courses, seemed like way more people joined clubs and spent more time around the game and the people.
8) I miss seeing good players with old accuform blades, an old beat up persimmon 3 wood, a putter from 1937 and a great big bertha driver he picked up last year.
9) I miss that people played with knockoff clubs, and having a new set of pings or callaways was such a big deal because they were so expensive.
10) I miss ashworth shirts with the logos on the sleeve
11) I miss foot joy classics
12) I miss the ping hoofer
13) I miss big bertha woods
14) I miss the orange taylormade clubs
15) I miss that it was a HUGE deal to have a scotty cameron, I got my first one for my 16th birthday and I still have it today.
16) I most of all miss the passion I had for the game when I was a kid, I still like golf a whole lot but its just not the same.

+1. My very first Cameron from 96 was stolen 4 years later from my bag.
+1000, it is amazing how "smell" brings back memories....my sense to it is a bit more subdued now, but when I catch a whiff of a brand new cabretta glove, every single one of those memories/your points comes flooding back. At one point my bag was a 975D/TM Bubble/TM Bubble Ti driver (rotated, was even a ho back then), MP-14's, Ping isi tour laminate 3 and 5 woods, ping eye2+ coppers wedges, and a original Cameron Newport. I rue letting go of my Cameron and later Mil-Spec, and also my Ping Coppers. Still have the MP-14's and Ping isi woods, and still play on once in a while. Play the 14's actually on and off, and won my member-member with them. Had to move from s300's though to double soft-stepped r300's ;-).

Anyone else remember turning Taylor Made head covers inside out?? So people would not know what driver you had?? The inside
of the head cover was a multi colored design. What I miss the most is the Strata golf ball and the fact you could still really shape
the ball. Also 275 yard drives where considered long!
Ha, I used to do the inside out Burner headcover as well--not sure what brought me to try that but I had 4 of the headcovers and each one had different liners, very cool

It was a nice era...........

Oldest son had won the state high school championship and was playing in college
I had forged Rams in the bag...........and could still hit a two iron

Now............

My knees are shot and I carry a five wood instead of a two iron
I can't beat the oldest son anymore.............but I still have those forged Rams

but...........only 33 months till retirement

Yes I got out if the business in 1998 and a financial services company hired me strictly based on handicap. They said we need someone to take clients out for golf that can play. I played at the top clubs in D/FW for 3 years straight for free with expense account and 4-5 days a week. Then the market crashed and when the comapny picked back up things were different, you know we had to work from the office.

But moreso, I miss most of the things thrillhouse said. I had great access to the game and the golf business was a lot if fun. I worked at a club where several of the juniors are now winners on the PGA and LPGA tours, one of our cart guys is now a caddie for one of the top 10 players in the world and I made little to no money but ate at the nicest restaurants in town, had brand new hi end golf clothes at all times, unlimited equipment and season tickets to hockey, football and basketball. Got to take private planes with members to play on Mondays in nearby states. I ran our section's junior interclub and seeing some of today's big names playing at 11-18 years old is something ill always remember. So yeah I miss the 90's

Yeah. I miss being that kid that hung out at the country club taking the old timers money. I had a Goldwin driver and my dad's Spalding X-14 irons. I would break into his locker every now and then and play his Top Flight Tours with Hump shafts.

Play 18 in the morning go to the pool and play 18 more. Mom would drop me off at 7:30 and Dad would pick me up and 6:00. Hopefully, I wasn't as annoying as the kids on the course now. I like to think my Dad taught me the etiquette along with how to play.
