Joran Meeks, Redstone Golf Club
Brian Smith, Wildcat Golf Club
Andrew Pfannkuche, Kingwood
Brian is a really nice guy, and has a beautiful smooth swing. I went and had a lesson with him once. He completely changed everything about every aspect of my swing (stance and grip included). About 2 weeks after my lesson, I developed carpal tunnel syindrome in my right wrist (I'm a lefty). My wrist was in constant pain, and my fingers were constantly tingling. I went to the doc, and that was my diagnosis. I took a little time off from hitting balls, and when I started again, I went back to my old swing. No more pain in my wrist.

That being said, I have a friend who used Brian for a long time, and I saw great improvements in his game. I just wont recommend him based on my own experience.

Does Neil teach to a method similar to Jim Hardy's One Plane swing?
He's not a method teacher, he adjusts for skill level and body type/ability. He has some fundamentals he likes to see but it's not a one plane method in any way.

Has anyone used matt swanson???
I have and let me give you a little info on him regarding the lessons... and this is not an attack on him.

BUT

I took lessons from him about a year and a half ago... and it seemed that every time I was there, he got a phone call on his cell and he took the call and talked for a bit before turning his attention to me, where it should have been. Also, he has talked to other people out on his facility that is hitting balls, or warming up for their lesson while he is giving me a lesson.. Now talking on a range is not all that bad of a thing, you accept it, but when you are giving a lesson, you talk to the one you are giving it too, not a guy 3-4 spaces down about how things are or how was his evening.
If I pay a guy to help my game out, I expect to be given his full attention and for him to dedicate his time to me for the hour I am there. You can make calls as soon as the lesson is over..He is a good guy, but I feel that he's more into other things unless you are a person who goes there a lot and spends money there.
Take that info any way you want, but for me and my money, I have gone elsewhere and am glad I had !

Where did you and your money decide to go? Can you describe why you feel it was a good idea?

I went to Blackhorse and started taking them.. feel like I am getting the attention and the instructions that I expect to get when I am paying for them. Good idea because I am getting what I am paying for, the instructor working with me and teaching me and not someone on the range or on the phone... no other reason needed. Matt has a good place up in Spring though.

If anyone's on the west side of Houston, I strongly recommend Jim Phenecie at Royal Oaks CC. I have known him a number of years and he is a top notch guy - membership is DEFINITELY not needed to take lessons there!

You want to see Brian Smith at either of Matt's facilities.

Great guy, great coach, PGA Tour experience.

I agree, took my first lesson (with him, as I've used some of the several other instructors in the Houston area) from him a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed, I'll be using him as my instructor for now on, and be driving from Kingwood to get there, btw-Royal Oaks is pretty awesome as well!
