I've been drinking a bottle of Prithard's Double Oaked... was quite good, but not worth $60.

On my list to try:
Four Roses 13/18 year (only available at the distillery)
Pappy 15 (buddy has a bottle)

That's about it.

i bought a knob creek single barrel a week ago. Been nursing it a bit. Not bad!
[/quote]

So many better bourbons... but I'm a snob.

Actually drinking WL Weller 12 year, which had been on my list, but I had forgotten it.

Half a bottle in after the dentist... and it's good. Not great, but good.

I'm a bourbon ho... otherwise I'd just drink Four Roses Single Barrel.

i've never seen four roses at an SAQ around here. (that's our liquor store)

My friend told me that Buffalo Trace is better then knob creek. If that's true then i'm pretty happy because they sell Buffalo Trace for 40$ and the single barrel Knob Creek is 60$

I've had a couple of decent scotches ( i have a glenlivet 12 and a glenfiddich 15) . But i like the american stuff a bit better to be honest. I'm due to reload soon i was going to get a Jack's single barrel and try the buffalo trace also

I'm not a fan of Jack Daniel's anymore... I blame college... and high school.

My bourbon hoing continues... I said there was nothing new I wanted to try... and have since had WL Weller 12 year.

I also now have an unopened bottle of Wathens that I'm looking forward to trying.

I don't have any new favorites... here's my current "bag"

50+ Bourbon:
Pappy Van Winkle
15 if I can find it, then 12, then 10, then 20. Mainly due to costs... the 12 and 10 are awesome for the price.
30+: Maker's Mark. Pretty standard fare... KY is cheap, so I don't really have any other favorites in the $30-50 range... Buffalo Trace is up there, but I haven't bought a bottle in a while.
20-30: Four Roses Single Barrel: I still can't believe this is under $30. Amazing bourbon for the price. I'd say it's better than Maker's for straight drinking. Maker's and Ginger Ale is awesome, though.
<20: Old Forester (Signature if possible) They've raised the price on this recently, but it's still a bargain basement deal. It's freaking amazing for the money, and I don't feel any guilt about mixing it.

I also recently discovered a new drink that I've been enjoying, but it's better with rye.

Step 1: Boil down balsamic vinegar and honey to half the volume
Step 2: Add rye and lime juice
Step 3: Add ice

It sounds weird, but it's really good.

I see Four Roses Single barrel is getting some love here - what about Four Roses small batch? Anybody have any good/bad impressions on this one? Thanks

Just felt the need to point out....(in as kind-hearted a way as possible)

I would not think that a true snob would add anything to bourbon with the exception of an ice cube or two.

Four Roses Small Batch is good... it's just in a weird middle ground here in KY... for less money I can get regular Four Roses ($20 - 750mL) and for a little more I can get single barrel ($28 for 750mL)... 24-26 for Small Batch just isn't worth it... although I recently bought a bottle because it came with a flask, which I wanted.

On the mixing bourbon front... meh. I'm not a big enough snob to not mix it, but I'm not going to waste good bourbon mixing it with anything but ice (Pappy 20 was better with no ice, actually).

I enjoy a good mixed drink... a true mixed drink compliments the alcohol. It's not the high school approach of masking the flavor of booze (been there, done that).

Bourbon and Ginger Ale is very refreshing and you still get a nice bourbon kick.

Manhattans are awesome as well... I've actually been making them with my Pappy Rye 13, because I don't love the rye straight up and the additions actually bring forward the barrel flavors while mellowing the rye kick.

If you don't like it, and are buying the next round, I will drink it straight :-)

Alright so for all the bourbon lovers I have this question. Do you drink it on the course and how? I love bourbon but never drink it on the course. My buddy and I were talking as we both love bourbon and drink it on the rocks but don't on the course.

Now we were trying to figure out a way to enjoy our favorite drink on our yearly trip where we are allowed to bring our own alcohol on the course but didn't come up with much. Ideas?

Red solos and a bag of ice? I can't imagine you want to pound some Sazerac around the course. Throw down some iced Maker's and you're set for the day.

Yeah just not a fan of drinking out of the plastic cup, bourbon or beer. We thought of bringing some decent rocks glasses buy that leads to spills and random flies or bees inside the beverage. That's why I'm asking.

I'm with you on the drinking out of solo cups, but bringing some rocks glasses isn't a big deal, especially since your course allows it . Just bring a couple of glasses (I prefer glass glasses, but have some plastic, but glass looking/feeling glasses out of the Knob Creek gift set that work perfect, plus they are smaller at the bottom to fit in the cup holders), buy a styrofoam cup of ice from the club to make drinks, water from the coolers every few holes if you desire to add some, and your good for several drinks, pretty simple. The bees must not like whiskey in Texas cause I've never had a problem with them buzzing around my drink.

I'll drink the occassional Old forester on the rocks on the course (on ice, white styrofoam cup)

I'd bring some ginger ale and make bourbon and gingers if you aren't in the mood for bourbon straight.

The styrofoam cups with lids should be fine for any and all drinks.

Did you try Buffalo Trace yet? It is indeed better than Knob, and by far the best for the price.

The BT distillery also makes Eagle Rare 10 and 17 year, which are harder to find but deliciousssss.

I think the next bottle I buy will be Buffalo Trace... I'm looking forward to getting some of the antique collection next Fall (I missed it last year).

The last bourbon I bought was for the super bowl (1 whole week!) and the bottle isn't even empty yet!

I'm trying to spend less money at the liquor store and get through the stuff I have on hand. I still have an unopened bottle of Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve and Pappy 12 in the basement... I'm also trying to drink less.

That's good stuff. Maker's Mark has a "46" bottle that's right on par with the Single Barrel as well.

That's where I'm at.....my wife started asking questions about why I have 5 different bottles of bourbon in the house. Down to two now. Will be that way for awhile too, because I'm giving up alcohol for Lent. No easier way to drop 10 pounds in 6 weeks (which I will slowly gain back during the summer, playing golf and drinking beer).

46 is really good, though I think Four Roses Single barrel is better and cheaper.

I'd also add, as far as mixing is concerned.....Makers and Dr. Pepper is really good.
