Oh so tasty. I'm in Grand Rapids for the Meijer LPGA Classic. Dropped by Founders Brewing to have a taste of the KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge imperial stout.

Oh, so smooth. A "vintage" 2014 Goose Island Bourbon County barrel aged imperial stout at Franklin Tap in Chicago. Seven years and it's as smooth as can be.

7 years? I've saved some Bourbon countys that long and I find the sweet spot with aging any beer is 2-3 years at most. After that, they tend to get a little flat tasting.

Goose Island Sunshine (Imperial) Stout. Molasses, coconut and vanilla. Yum. Not quite a summer beer, but it goes well with air conditioning. Lol.

Revolution Strawberry Jacket barrel aged barley wine with strawberries at their taproom in Chicago. Ooh, that's sweet. Almost like a refreshing summer beer, except for the 14.2% part. Lol.

Revolution Supermassive Cafe Deth barrel aged imperial stout with a ton of Dark Matter coffee. The "regular" Cafe Deth is smooth, but this has a very bold taste.

Kettle Sours are on the upswing, that's for sure.  They're relatively easy and low-stakes to make in small batches.  If you're brewing with certain wild/sour yeasts, those are incredibly complicated, and can actually infect a whole-a** brewing facility if you're not careful (thereby funking up all your other beers).

All the mentions of Short's, Founders and HopCat are making me miss Soft Parade even more! I am now in IPA country in the PNW, and sours are definitely NOT the IPA in this part of the west. A couple local breweries that are pretty good are Narrows Brewing and Sig. Elysian is still good, although I'm not sure it qualifies as craft after being bought by AB Inbev.

Been on a fitness kick this summer and almost completely cut out alcohol to help the abs shine through. Made this Stone Woot stout that much better. Trying now to find the balance between craft beer and lifting.

I've tried basically every IPA on the planet (within reason), and this probably sticks out as my favorite: Silver Moon IPA 97

 

 

 

Also important mention, I think anything from Hop Valley with Cryohops is a real treat, that really is some awesome tech (although they were acquired by MillerCoors so not sure it really fits in this thread anymore..)

Revolution Brewing Boss Jacket Rye Whiskey barrel aged barley wine at their Milwaukee Ave brewpub in Chicago. 'Not my usual drink, but tasty. 14% ABV. Very sweet.

Oh my, I feel like I stumbled across a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. 'Stopped by the Goose Island Brewpub in Chicago for a beer, and they're offering a flight of (rare) barrel aged BCS Proprietors imperial stouts. I'm in heaven.

Alesmith Brewing Speedway Imperial Stout with Mexican dark chocolate, sea salt, and Mexican coffee. It's not barrel aged, but it's not bad. The dark chocolate is quite strong.

There is one IPA I like, Space Dust.  I have to be in a safe place to drink the Dust because it is sneaky.

 

I also have a few home brew lagers and ales I can repeatably brew to the same flavor but home brewing is more about experimenting for me.  Most of the experimenting is trying to nail a great tasting pils.

A very tasty Goose Island 2020 Anniversary Bourbon County barrel aged imperial stout. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the release of BCS, this variant is aged for two years in Weller 12 year bourbon barrels. Hints of caramel and chocolate, this is one fine imperial.

Founders just released another variant of their KBS barrel aged imperial stout , with coffee, cinnamon, vanilla, and cocoa nibs. 'Like drinking a Cinnabon with a kick. Lol.

Revolution Brewing released the first batch of their 2021 Deep Woods Series today. Here we have the tried and true Deth's Tar, and the Deth by Raspberries. The Raspberry variant is a bit too fruity for my tastes, but the Deth's Tar once again hits a home run. Next up is my favorite variety, Cafe Deth. 

 

 

My lucky day. I didn't realize that they also have a VSOD (Very Special Old Deth) Weller, aged two years in Weller barrels. Going to be a fine day. Lol.
