Camillo's RBZ "b" version irons milled individually

Recommended Posts

7 hrs to make the heads
Was talking to someone from TM today and was told that Camillo's new RBZ "b" version irons were individually milled from blocks of steel and the heads alone took 7 hrs to make, I've never heard of this being done before to an entire head, there are no swirl marks on the face and was told they were they cleanest set of irons he's ever seen.

Me too, its basically the same thing as making a custom wheel, I couldnt imagine what a set is going to be going for price wise if someone gets a hold of a backup set or something. I don't see a problem with a set reaching 3-5k.

Seems like it would take ALOT longer to do the set

Without pics....... aaaaaaaaaa lots of he said she said here........
At first I thought the exact same thing as you, but with the money, equipment, resources and machines I'm sure TM has, they could get them done in that time no problem.

Anyone remember back in 04-05 when TM made 20 sets of the milled CB protos? They supposedly were $5k+ per set. See a set every now and then in the bst/ebay.

They have done this in the past for Mike Weir. The heads were forged and then the Cavity was milled out per his reguest for COG placement and so on.

I'm almost sure that TM will be releasing Camilo's irons in Japan. They did for the first version of the Burner TP irons and those sold out.

The folks at TM have to believe that the better players won't give these a go and the average player does not have the game for these (at least in the US) otherwise why not release a limited amount or provide a special order option through their website? I can't believe that the irons in the first pic would outsell the irons in the second:

Interesting... It makes me wonder the quality of the driver shafts
EXACTLY. Have the availability/resources to individually mill irons, but put the equivilant to $30 shafts in their woods...

my question is why do all of that work for camilo? He is a journeyman player nothing more. I do find it interesting how TM is the only company that has pro's play both lines of clubs. It's a brilliant move but unfortuately it means they have to do all of these special versions. Personally would like to see Camilo go back to what got him on tour and not these tricked up GI clubs.

It might take that long to create the programs and build fixtures however any sets after that should be a piece of cake, I would expect TM to have these available in some capacity...B

Colombia is a developing nation when it comes to golf involvement. Having him on board can mean a lot of business in South America for them.

They have a milling machine in their putter lab that they can do a lot of custom work on. They have done custom sets/putters in the past for many Tour pros. The most visible were Mike Weir's custom sets and the original, legendary RAC Prototype irons.

You really don't believe that TM thinks the average player in the US can't play these but the avg player in Japan can?
That is kinda what you just said....

No, golf is an elite sport in Japan. Golf clubs are very much a status symbol is my understanding. The Japanese market expects very tight tolerances to their clubs, and as such, the prices are quite high. American consumers simply do not wish to spend as much on clubs on the whole compared to Japan. Different markets and product expectations. Its an economics thing, no reflection on skill of the golfers.
