2012 True Linkswear line up!

Recommended Posts

Got a pair of 12 tours. They're pretty comfortable with no tongue issue. Size wise, they definitely run larger. I was a borderline 10 in 2011s, normally a 10.5 in other shoes or an 11 in adidas.

The sz 10 in 2012 are borderline too loose. I have wide feet too. I may be better off with 9.5 but am too lazy given the size discrepancy.

Bottom line, size a half, but likely full, size down.

Just a quick update on my recent review for those who care.

Played 63 holes this weekend (Fri-Sun) and all walking in my Trues. My initial impressions are still the same and my love of the Trues has only gotten stronger. So as a fan-boy, take this update with a grain of salt.

Tours are really comfortable at 1/2 a size smaller than last years Tours. Have walked several rounds including 54 this past weekend. Of course, I am tired from walking so much, but there were no issues with feet or legs hurting from the shoes. I have had problems with cramping (after a round) with other shoes but not even a twinge this weekend.

Played in the mist / rain on Sunday for first time with the new Tours. Traction seemed to be very good while walking and swinging. Toward the end of round as it got really slick, I did feel a bit of slip on a couple of driver / 3 wood full swings but likely would have happened in any shoe given conditions. No issues at all with the soles filling up with mud or grass clippings, so a big improvement there. Waterproof like a duck.

Walked 9 in my new Masters LE phx. Really comfortable. Started out a bit stiffer than the Tours do especially along the top of the foot (as some golfwxers have noted) but softened up nicely by the end of the nine. Fit-wise, these are size 10 (my normal size) and fit just as good as the size 10 Tours for me. I know others find a difference but they work for me.

Those trying for the first time will likely will need to try a few different sizes as these fit very differently from most other types of shoe.

Enjoy

I played in my grey and electric blue 12 Tours on Saturday for the first time and I'm in love! Also had the best ball striking day that I can remember. We had a lot of rain Thurs and Fri. And I was a bit worried. I walked the 18 and they were incredible. Mine are a half size smaller than the 11 Tours. So, I've got my Black Adidas 4.0's on the BST as I want a black pair of True's now...find it and make me an offer on them, I'm motivated after Saturday!

I dont have a pair of 2011's, but I will say that the 2012 traction is NOT that good. It's OK.

But my adicross adidas and my ecco streets both provide better traction for spikeless shoes, and none of the above compare to standard soft spikes.

They are all fine in the dry, but in morning damp conditions, they DO NOT inspire confidence. They are OK. But they are nowhere near good. I find my adidas sufficient although they get plugged because of the spacing, and the ecco are slightly worse. but the Trues are the worst of the three. The nubs just aren't aggressive or long enough.

I think most people proclaiming the traction is excellent really just love the rest of the shoe, of which there is plenty to appreciate. My 2012 tours are well built and comfortable. They are everything as advertised, but I am not under any illusions with the traction.

It almost seems like the 2011 stud pattern was better than the current 2012. I played in pouring rain with a guy in the 2011s who seemed to be OK, but I can't imagine the 2012's holding up.

I bought a pair of black PHX size 10.5. Then I read that they might run a half size over and was concerned. I've since tried 10 and my 10.5 I probably could wear 10 and be fine but now I'm very happy with the 10.5 -- even bought a pair of brown. As for style, I absolutely love them. Last year I bought a pair of True Tours and barely got them out of the box. They looked huge, couldn't see myself wearing them without feeling silly so I sold them without wearing. The PHX are much better IMO, and actually look really cool. But where they really shine is comfort. They feel great, I've worn mine to work twice. Full disclosure, I've not worn to play 18 yet but have hit the range three times with them and zero issues, incl one day after it'd rained. Very happy with the True PHX, we'll see how they hold up on the course. For the price, I find it hard to believe there's a better golf shoe. If I could afford the stealth, I'd love a couple pairs also but zero complaints with PHX right now.

Anyone with really high arches try Trues? Would they work without insoles?

I was in the initial pre-orders for the first True Tours. Love, love, love those shoes and even wore them to work a few times. Yes, they look like "moon shoes" but I work with people who were clogs and crocs and other crazy stuff. Decided to roll with the PHX this year and, amazingly, they made the shoe even better. And at $99 for the PHX, can't go wrong really. I am so done with traditional soft spike golf shoes. I've walked 4-5 rounds this year in my PHX and my feet feel great after the round - I hate taking them off really. And I kind of like the not having a sock liner in the PHX, although wearing no socks in my old Tours felt great with the liner.

Count me in as a True Convert :partytime2:

I got my Brown Stealths in earlier this week and tried them on... 5 hours later I realized that I was still wearing them. I played this afternoon for the first time and to steal a phrase from someone else... it felt like playing golf in slippers and you don't even have to change shoes to go home. My stance felt extremely solid all day.. and I think they even encourages a slightly wider stance.. which definitely doesn't hurt me. I did not slip a single time and believe that at least while they are new I have more traction than my Footjoys. They are absolutely the most comfortable pair of shoes that I own and I'm considering buying another pair just to wear. Now if they will just make me some dress shoes like this that I can wear with a suit and a pair of casual slip-on... I would be in heaven.

so is the consensus on the 2012 TRUE Tours that they need a bit of breaking in compared to the 11s?
i love my 2011 TRUE Tours, but was disappointed in trying on the 12s after a few steps... the leather crease was painful on the top of my foot for sure and the overall feel was much more stiff compared to the immediate comfort the 11s had right out of the box.

I have the 2011 Tours and thought they were the most comfortable shoes I've owned. I've had lots of higher end shoes over the years and these still were tops. I love the feel on the greens. I honestly think they help me read greens better than conventional shoes with heals. They are stable and very nice. I have yet to slip. Perhaps because my feet are more grounded with wider toes. The way the "sock liner" works the 2011 Tours makes them a bit awkward to get on, but once they are on...

Then I got the 2012 Stealths in white. Wow. Wow. Wow. They are soft and super comfortable. All the green feel of the tours. And the liner and lacing are different and much better. Easier on and easy off. My only complaint is that my favorite shoes are now white and it is a bit hard to keep them nicely polished.

$200 is a lot for golf shoes. But $200 is not a lot for the best golf shoes. I have an old -- perfect condition -- pair of Eccos that sit in my closet and retailed for $450.

As for the 2011 vs 2012 Tours? In the store, I thought the 2012's had better and softer leather than the 2011's.

Anybody wear the tours?

In another thread there were some similar comments about the PHX, particularly about the tongue/top area digging and bunching. Leather also taking a but longer to break in vs last years tours but that's to be expected.

What about this years tours?

I bought the tours 2 weeks ago. Having read all of the "just like wearing house slippers" I decided to give them a try. Wore them around the house for a day and then hit the course the next day to walk 18. These things killed my feet. The bottoms of my feet felt like they were on fire. I actually took them off and played the last 4 holes in my socks. Contacted customer service about returning them - no such luck. They suggested that I try some different insoles. Went and bought some and tried the shoe's again. Had to change into my tennis shoes after nine. If anyone wants to buy a pair of size 9 1/2 let me know.

Give it a few rounds, your feet have been pampered and are weak due to overly supportive and orthoticly enhanced shoes and insoles that you have worn your whole life. My feet hurt too after the first time, but now my feet are stronger and I can walk 36 and feel fine. You won't regret it but it takes a little to build up your foot strength. People make the same complaint about minimalist running shoes, but after a few runs they are strong athletes because of it.

Who ever says they feel like slippers is crazy, these feel nothing like a pair of Deerform slippers, but they are amazing golf shoes!

On fire how? Hot? Painful?

I'd love to know more about what you feel since I recommend these True Linkwear shoes to everyone.

I did not have any real breaking period. Felt very good first round out of the box. Last year I rotated them into my shoe lineup. Added a pair of Black and a second pair of White this season. I have been wearing TL for every round this year. Never foot issues.

I liked the minimal/barefoot idea so much I got Merrel's for the gym. Feel great too when walking and lifting weights. Decided to add a few minutes of running to see about breaking in new muscles on my legs because of the barefoot technology. OMG. After five minutes, my calves were sore for three days. Not my feet (which felt great) but my calves. They say this is normal as you train yourself for the new running stride that comes with barefoot shoes.

Still does not explain "feet on fire."
