Best driver of 2006
What is in your opinion the Overall Best driver of 2006.

Judge it by using the following criteria. :drinks:

Distance

Ballflight

Forgivness

Cosmetics

Everyone knows that I currently use the FT-3 and it is a great driver that generates the most ballspeed. My only complaint is the fact that it is not as forgiving as some other models. It is a driver that players either love or hate it.

My Top three as as follows :

1. G5
2. FT-3
3. 905R

My overall winner is the G5. For the $$$ you cannot beat it.

Ping G430 10.5, Ventus Red 60
TM 16.5 HL Wood,  Fuji Red TR 70
TM 7 wood,  Fuji Red TR 70

Ping G430  Hybrid # 22
PXG Gen 6 XP irons 5-GW with MMT 95 shafts

TM M4 54 & 58 Wedges

Odyssey Versa M5  Putter

I'd have to say

1. Drew

2. Glynn

Glynn has the "cosmetics" over Drew, but Drew is loong.

Tony gets the award for most improved.

Gee thanks... :drinks:

My money is on the HS9 that is in my bag right now. It's pretty good in all facets. For the price, the G5 by far is the best driver on the market. If the HS9 were in the 299 range, I would say it would win going away.

I am anixously awaiting the FT-5 for '07. The profile just seems to fit my eye better than the FT-3.

I want to try the LCG FT-3.....any Houstonians selling one?

Altus shaft would work for me----not-green.

:drinks:

Until then, I like the 425 Tour.

If not 2006, the best driver was/is a 9.5 R7 TP with Fuji 553 shaft. Nothing in 2006 has compared to that driver (or maybe I just suck now).

My vote for 2006 is a 10.5 FT-3 with NVS 75....however the ballflight with the x460/NV combo seems to work great too. It's a week-to-week project!

Drew is serious long, that boy is ridiculous...takes me a driver and 3 wood just to get to his drives!

Looking forward to the FT-5 w/ VS Proto 60 and FT-I w/ stock FUJI 586!!

Btw, Sam, the Nike fw's and hybrids make me want to throw up...

HiBore. :drinks: First driver change in 3 years, fellas. It BETTER be good, and has been so far. However, now that its officially mine (thanks again, Drew), the ball will somehow immediately fly 15 yards shorter and gain an affinity for the trees.

SLDR 460 9.5* Oban Kyoshi White 65-05
SLDR TP 14* 'Ahina 70x
SLDR TP 19* Motore Speeder 9.8HB
MR-23 CB US Spec 4-PW TC x1 soft stepped
Vokey SM 4 52*, TVD-K 56 & 60
Circa '62 No. 2 raw, ProV1x

I just moved to Houston today so I will give my reply. I agree with the HiBore. For the first time in a long time I'm not looking for what driver will be next.

Don't thank me, thank Fred Smith (Fantana on WRX or FSmith84 on BSG banned). It was his driver and I needed one for the city am and he hooked me up. I can't hit it for the life of me -- so THANK YOU Rick!

Todd, talk to Mitch at Golf Matrix up on the north side for the Ozik hookup. Try the Code 6, I think you may like it.

I am thinking about checking out the HS9, Drew loves his and Classic really swears by his. They really look pretty good and I am not 100% sold on the 905R.

As for best drivers I really think the G5 is a damn stout club. I am user low-end inferior equipment. I have my R5TP and my FT-3, those are both old technology. For one magical driving round by Keith I was convinced that the Sasquatch Tour was the shiznik.

Shiznik is a cool word and to get back on topic I have yet to find a driver on the market today that I'm not impressed with. All the OEM's make damn fine clubs, of course like a drunkard at closing time I have very low standards.

Kyle where did you end up moving too?

Jersey Village area...just off of 290. Found an apartment that I liked and it is only about 2 minutes from work so it is a good setup for me. Now I need to buy some furniture and a tv. The only things I brought was what fit into my car so right now I have a big apartment with an air matress, some clothes and my golf clubs.

That is my old neck of the woods! The 290 corridor has really changed and I don't like it. I remember when Highway 6 was the end of civilization and now the place is grown, I was really sad when I was out there the other day.

Where is your office at, off the beltway?

Sounds like a plan. I might check it out tomorrow night. I need to see my Bears play and my cable doesn't get turned on until Tuesday.

Drew, Kyle, if you guys go grab a beer, let me know. Drew's got my email address. My office is at 249 & Louetta & with the rain tomorrow, there will be no golf. Sniff.

Kyle, stay away from these clowns...they're no good for you!!! In all seriousness they're good guys...and they might let you in on a little secret.

Good thing you moved to Houston...it's a SAD time to be an Illini fan.

Oh, as for the question...I'll give a Chicago perspective to it...as much as I hate to say the top 2.

1. r7 460 TP

2. r7 425 TP

3. HiBore

My first night here and I'm getting ready to float away. I went to a movie tonight and on my way back a cop went off the road on 290 right in front of me - Major flash floods.

On a side note I recommend The Departed.

Here's another surprise for you with this flooding....get ready for mosquitoes the size of your fists!! Better stock up on some Off!!

Yeah, stay away from Drew and Keith.....they'll get you drunk and drop you off with "bloody gums"... :drinks:
