After first day of leauges, I'm siting pretty at +1 (solo 4th place) while the leader (my idol, a senior who has 50%+ scholarship to Stanford) is at -2. Beating a lot of seniors who have full rides to other colleges so I am feeling pretty good. The pack is at +6 so I have a great chance at finishing well for districs, and then hopefully if I make to State I will do well there.

XTD super fairway is soon to be in the bag I hope. Got to find one at a reasoable price, and i'll be set for a long time!

Not getting the i20?

I hit the i20 and I found the face too shallow for what I want... I am loving my RBZ though, it's very dependable and very forgiving so the ball always comes off pretty hot.

How are you liking the irons bro?

I was pretty sold on the i20 but I had yet to hit the xtd and it's clear that the xtd is really deep which is what I was looking for mainly. The irons are so purée you might as well call them yogurt. Yesterday I only missed 3 greens with the irons and hit one of them to within 6 inches.
Wow what a day. Shot a 71 for a 144 total to get tied for first place with the Senior going to Stanford and one of my really good sophomore buddies. We all had an even par total of 144. I was the only freshman to make it to State from this district which has the highest level of competition anyways. A solid start to a solid season.

State results

Well, it went awful. I only have myself to blame (which is why I love golf), but the course was by far the longest course I have ever played in a tournament. It was set up playing well over 7000 yards, and had a par 5 that was 630 playing dead into 30+ m.p.h. winds. (I didn't even reach the fairway, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I shot an 89, my worst score since I was 12. I missed the cut by quite a bit (I think it was 83) but there were lots of scores above me. Even so, I obviously would have like to have done better. The scores were really high, one of my good freinds (The one who has a golf scholarship to Stanford) shot a 78-80 and he is a senior. I just couldn't get a feel for the greens. My chips would come off the face exactly how I wanted, and people would start applauding them, but they would veer off in crazy directions, and multiple times they went off the green. I had a boatload of 3 putts, when usually I go 5-7 rounds without any 3 putts at all! This is what held me back from making the cut... that and a quadruple bogey on the tenth hole. (2 into a hazard off the tee with a forced carry).

But.... I am not mad, angry, or anything of the sort. Because I struck the ball SO WELL! :) I hit around 12/14 fairways, and hit most to all of my iron shots the way I wanted. It was a great ballstriking day, and that is what I will remember from the tournament. I mean, I'm a freshman still, and not too many people even make it to State as freshman. In the field of 80 players, only 5 other guys were freshman. It was an accomplishment even to make it there is how I feel. I got a pretty big article in the paper about me, got to stay the night at a sweet hotel with all my buddies, play some golf, eat good food, skip school. Overall it was so much fun. Yeah, it was dissapointing to miss the cut, but it was a great learning experience, and I am confident that I will do better next year.

71 after the first day of the city amatuer. I'm sitting T4 in the championship bracket, and the youngest player in the entire tournament by 3 years! Hoping for a good day tommorow, playing with a kid who has the full ride to UW for golf (he fired a 71 as well) , which is where I dream of being by my senior year!

Wow! Keep up the good work! I wish I had put this much effort into the game at your age, with the way you're playing now, in 4 years I'm sure the sky is the limit...good luck! (and sweet set up!)

Im so dummb!. Shot 80 today at my _________ing home course! It was played from the tips/blue combo, and the rough was as thick as ever. Reminded me alot of how the set the U.S. Jr amatuer up, with all the brutal pin locations. Bleh. 3 doubles, and a 4 putt on the 18th while drunck hacks yelled in my backstroke(s..lol). Still only 29 putts, and I also had my first eagle! :) Got my first eagle as a 1.5 handicap!

What's the main part of your game causing you to have these bad (by your standards) rounds recently?
Honestly, I'm not playing that poorly, just scoring badly. Getting outdriven by 40+ yards a hole by all the guys in my ground got to me a bit, but I don't think it caused the 80. I was really nervouse playing with two guys who already had full rides to college, and I got off to a bad start. The rough made it really hard to get up and downs also. I don't want to make excuses for my poor scores though.
