I'm a single digit, play a set of Eye 2s from 1985 - refinished and reshafted with ZZ Lites.

Got a set of G5 to replace them, but the Eye 2s beat them out. Got a set of I10s to replace them, but the Eye 2s beat them out.

Surprisingly, I don't use the Wedge. I go from 4-9.

I have a set I bought back in the 80's. I pull them out of the closet 2-3 times a year and play a round with them. Still hit well to be so old, but like the more updated stuff better. I will keep these until the day I die however.

My senior bag.......

I am a huge fan of these irons. I have owned 5 or 6 sets and nearly picked up a set with brand new grips for 100 dollars. Should have done it really. I want to give my i5s a real run this summer. The nice thing is I can pick up a set of eye 2s for a little of nothing anytime.

I like the original better than the plus models. They just suit my game better. I would love to get a set of becu 3 thru lob one day. I think they are probably the best irons of all time in a historic context.

I will admit the i5s do remind me a lot of the eye 2s though. Similar size and playability. My i5s have s300s in them and I really like this combo.

Darn this thread, it's making me seriously look into getting a set of Eye 2's as a backup set. Problem for me is I'm a white / silver dot and they're alot tougher to come by. I'm not too keen on having a set that old lie adjusted either. Come to think of it, I don't know if I've ever seen an Eye 2 set in silver dot.

Hey, you stole my clubs (Eye2s) and my headcovers. (lol) Love your set up. Great taste in headcovers! I don't want to start a war over what was best or whatever, but everyone would have to agree the Eye2s have to be the most enduring set of irons ever made. I know of no clubs 25+ years old that so many people still have and still play. .Pretty soon grandchildren will be playing with them. Scary thought.

I'm more of a Zing 2 or ISI kind of guy, but I definitely agree with the sentiment of the thread. While I have moved on, I currently have a set of Zing 2s I'm working on refinishing. I'm doing a media-blasted finish similar to the Eye2 XG wedges. I've experimented on the 3i and ended up just doing basic black paint fill (cavity lettering, numbers, bottom 2 grooves) which looked excellent (again, ala Eye 2 XG) but I may get a little more creative once I do the rest of the set. Right now I have them gripped with what might be the last 13 Golf Pride Victory 50th Anniversary grips left on the plannet, since they seemed period appropriate. These grips have me thinking about some combination of black, white, and gold for the paint fill.

Still as good as anything. Until 2 years ago I played 2-6 of eye 2+SS / 7 - pw of titleist 690's. Not sure I shouldn't go back to them to be honest. Currently using 710 CB/MB mix. They are not any better.

As I edit this .... thinking back .... they are not as good as the Eye2 - in the long/mid irons anyway. I did have a little issue with yardage control with shorter irons.

ZZ lite, just like i said in the earlier post. Weird shaft, it works well for even X players like me, it may play a little stiff for some folks.

Sorry, missed that.

Yes, the ZZ-lite is an interesting shaft. I like it, and I normally play between stiff and x. Funny to think everyone had to play that shaft back in the day.

I'm still gaming 4-SW Eye2+ that have been re-finished by the WRX department and re-shafted with Project X 6.0. And the matching LW with DG S300. They're absolutely fantastic.

I haven't found anything that made me want to spend the $ to upgrade. I'm perfectly fine re-gripping these for now. Even thought about re-shafting them with C-tapers. Who knows, that's probably not worth the money either. Haha

Although... I will say that I'm pretty intrigued by the new i20 line. But I'll wait and hopefully try them at a demo day. They'd have to be pretty spectacular.

No prob, I am really jealous of your diamond grips, my + sand wedge has the X grip (little x's all over it) and it is still soft and tacky, i love it. It says lamkin on the cap i guess they were making the grips for ping then, i can't believe it hasn't hardened 20 years later. No way i am cutting it off, if i could get a whole set of them i would in a second.

Looking forward to a 21st consecutive season (I think) with Eye2+ in the bag. 1-SW, white dot. For some reason I never got a LW. Still love them. Easy to hit, workable, responsive. I don't hit the ball very far but don't care much.

Some day I'll come across a set of BeCus, but I'm not holding my breath waiting.

I don't know about "regrooving", but Ping will definitely redo paint fill and change lie angles.

While the thread is up here...

I recently picked up an original Eye 2 (no plus) 2 iron and SW (with the ZZ lite shaft!). Does anyone know if Ping will refurbish the club head (ie re-groove, re-paint and change lie angle). Thanks in advance!

All right, it's not a bag full of Eye 2s at the moment (though I do bring them out regularly) but there is an Eye 2 3-iron in there, along with some other Ping goodies, an odd but fun wedge, and a Tour Striker. partytime2.gif
