Who's sticking with an 'old trusty' FW in 2012?

Granted, it's great to see all the fresh new equipment get released, but I'm really not inclined to purchase or try anything. I swore to myself that when I found a great fairway for me (the G15), it was staying in the bag until something devastating happened to it!

Who else is turning a blind eye to the new FW hype and sticking with an old trusty? If so, what are you sticking with and what are you going to spend that saved cash on?

The 3w has been the weak link in my bag for as long as I can remember, to the point that I even questioned " why do I even carry one"? I've experimented with a bunch of old / new shaft & head combos, and some were better than others, but none were great.

This year I started working with shorter shaft length (42") with positive results. I had put together an 07 Burner TP head with a Pro Launch Platinum at 42" that worked pretty well once I got the SW back up with lead tape. I felt like I wanted it a little stiffer though, so I tipped it 1"......and screwed it up. *%#&, back to the drawing board!

I knew I liked the Burner head, so I went to the box of shafts for something similar to the Pro Launch. I came across an old Fuji Fit-On E380 that came in a used FW that I had bought for the head, and thought "what the hell, lets give it a go". I tipped it 1/2", and while the head was off, added 4 gms of Hed-Tak and tungsten powder to get it to D3. I spined it and glued it up, without any great expectations.

Well...This thing has worked out great! Off the tee and off the deck, it became my go-to club overnight. 240 with a baby draw every time, mid trajectory with no balooning. My quest for a FW is over, for the foreseeable future.

Same, Diablo Edge Tour 15* with Fubuki AX staying put. If anything, I may pick up another one since it's so cheap now just to try a different shaft.

I love my TM r7 CGB 3w. Too trusty to change. I also have a Cleveland 2 hybrid that hits off the deck rather well with a low penetrating flight. The only thing I'm considering is adding a 4 hybrid (RBZ) to the mix for some loft and access to the ball from the rough.

The Sonartec is looking good for another year for me too. I think I am going to kick the IDEA Pro a12 hybrid out of the bag and put the Sonartec NP-99 5 wood back in again.

I am tempted to give the 910F some serious consideration, but I am trying not to. I just pulled the trigger on some new irons two days ago so I should cool it for a while.

Cleveland Hibore XLS 13T with RIP Beta 70s tipped 1".

If this one starts to wrong me I have several fairway heads sitting around I'll try before buying a new one (Hibore 15, Hibore 13, Cleveland Comp, CB1).

While I'm anxious to see what kind of numbers I get with the new RBZ Tour TP 3 wood, I will not abandon my '07 Burner TP 3 wood again. I recently purchased another one after learning a hard lesson when I traded my original.

However, I can't seem to find an RBZ Tour TP 3 wood anywhere. I've looked locally and online.

All though its not technically "old" I am sticking with the Titleist 910 Fd. I have complete confidence in the club and can hit any shot shape I want.

I've played the 15* Fd with a PX 8B4 all last year and I actually just ordered a 13.5* Fd with the PX 8B4 shaft as well for when I play longer courses. Probably going to sell the new shaft when I get it and just swap out heads, so once I get over the minimum post limit look for it on the BST!

Not changing mine. My only fairway wood is a Ping Rapture 17* with an Ozik 8m2. It does everything well. I'm not interested in these new clubs that are longer and lighter.
[/quote]

I have a 17* OG Rapture 5 wood as well, with the VS Proto FW shaft, and it's a sweet FW. It does do battle though with the G15 and SQ2 4 woods, and K15 3 wood. I love having some of these oldies but goodies around, and feel no strong need to play newer models.

I have a rule NEVER to buy this new tech when it first comes out - Let those who can afford it buy it (& good luck if that's you) - I can read here what works & what doesn't, and several months later, when the price has come down, I will pick up something, if I need it ...
My current fairways are both R9's, so 'old tech', but now that I have a high performance shaft in each (both Oban) I can't see the need to change for the time being
Cheers ... Paul

My steel shafted V Steels aren't going anywhere. I bought a new G15 4 wood last year that I put in play a few months, but it isn't as consistent or as long for my as my V Steel.
