Need High-End Phoenix/Scottsdale Recommendations

I need some quick opinions from the all-knowing WRX collective.

A friend of mine is traveling to the Phoenix area next week and wants to play at 2 really nice courses - preferably private (possibly semi-private) or high-end resort. The kind of course where people would say "Wow, you played there!" (although that's not his motivation - he's a good guy. He just likes to see/play great courses and has the money to do it.) The Director of Golf at his club is having some trouble finding suitable courses with reciprocal policies and available tee times.

One option that has been proposed is Quintero Golf Club. Can anyone provide any information on the course, the current conditions, the customer service, etc?

Golf Club of Scottsdale was an option, but the available tee times didn't work out with his schedule.

Can anyone recommend some more courses that would be a good fit?

Also, do you know the places that he could get on with recipricals? That would help pick, too.

Whisper Rock was everyone's first thought. No surprise that it's not an option.

I'm afraid I don't. His club doesn't have specific agreements. Just one DoG calling the other DoG. The problem here is that none of the people in the loop are familiar enough with the area to know really good from regular good (or probably can make it happen from never gonna happen.)

If he likes great GOLF COURSES, look no further than the Saguaro course at We-Ko-Pa. It is not private, it is a public daily fee course. IMO the best public course in the state. Walkable too.

If he is into pomp, circumstance, customer service and all that, I can't really help.

What no Troon North Monument or TPC Stadium? I haven't played either as the price is usually too high for me as I am not that into the name and there are so many courses in the area to choose from. TPC however might be nice now as the tournament was played there just last week. I played Greyhawk Raptor (Talon is the other course) a few years ago and they are pretty upscale, check the virtual tour at http://grayhawkgolf.com/take_our_virtual_tour/. Greyhawk has been a tour stop in the past too.

Stadium course isn't worth the money this time of year IMO. Troon north for sure. A hidden gem that always gets overlooked is Legend Trail. A great Rees Jones design in great shape. Quintero is also awesome but a bit of a drive. If you find a way to get on at Desert Mountain do not hesitate.

I agree. Legend Trail looks amazing in the photos on the home page. I certainly think about going there, when I am in Scottsdale in April. But it is about the same distance from where I will be staying in downtown Scottsdale as Vista Verde is, which (according to Google Earth) should be a drive of slightly more than 50 minutes. 10 minutes more than Wekopa.
Still thinking and planning....
