Played my first round with the I20's. The CFS STiff shaft is great. I teed up the 4 iron on a bunch of holes. Was hitting it really high and straight. I am thinking about getting the 3-iron.

How many of you ordered the I20 3 iron is it easy to hit? What are the benefits of going with the 3 iron vs getting the I20 hybrid? I feel like I have more control with the irons but the guy at my shop said not to bother with the 3. I am hitting the 4 iron really well off the tee. From the deck I am still getting used to it though, I am coming from a set of SGI irons that had 3-5 Hybrids. So glad to be hitting irons again.
I have the 3 iron. Very easy to hit but I have always carried a 3i. It's 230 off the tee and dead straight.

The i20 irons are so good you can drive to the golf course and they'll play themselves while you sit at the bar. They'll come get you when they are done beating $50 off everyone else in your pairing. Then you and your irons can go home and snuggle.

I can attest to this.

I hit these on an indoor launch monitor with cfs stiff shafts and the ball flight was really high. Is this normal?

I'm not impressed at all with how long it is taking to get my S-56's with an i20 3 iron... LOL. I believe I ordered them around 2 weeks ago... However I am exited after hitting the S-56 demo again, I'm seriously pumped about the 3 iron thought because I've been gaining distance and hybrid is taking me places a little too far on some weird holes at my club and 4 iron is not hot enough to satisfy my booming needs so i20 3 iron will fill that role..

For me it was normal to hit them high. Hit them high with every shaft I tried, not saying that's a bad thing, just different then what I used to hit

I don't know, indoor launch monitors are always suspect to me. something about the results seem bs. although, it's not uncommon for me to hit irons high. i play taylorade tour preferred 2009 irons now with project x 6.0 shafts and can hit them a mile high.

although I will say, it was saying I was hitting the 7 iron around 180 yards which was impressive. but again, indoor launch monitor... grain of salt

Went to nFlight fitting on Friday and ended up ordering the i20s with dg x100s. I tried all the other shafts and consistently hit these better.
Ended up with red dot 5 - pw,up,lw. I am really excited to get these in and get on the course with them. Tried drivers as well and the jury is out on those. Hit about every shaft they had and the g20 was definitely the better head for me. I was not hitting anything great until the last few minutes. I had setup issue with driver that I finally figured out and started hitting everything pretty solid. My issue is shaft. The diamana white 83x was definitely the best feeling and had the tightest dispersion. I know this a lot of shaft considering my swing speed usually around 105-110. The fitter wanted me to go 73x which I tried and didn't have as good results. The next best shaft for me was the project x 7.0 which again suprised me. I am going to go back and try again when I am fresh and with my swing clicking a little better.
I will report back once I get my irons. I may end up with a full bag of ping this year and will probably be selling a set of mp29s soon.

I hit mine pretty high but still with a great flight. I hit a 6 iron from 180 out today to pin high and backed up 6 inches.. The flight makes holding greens much easier while not losing any distance that I've noticed.

I hit them outside and hit them extremely high with CFS stiff shafts. When I changed to DG S300 the ball flight was alot better.
Interesting! The step pattern on the CFS is very similar to the DGSL which should have the same flight as the DG except it's a lighter shaft. I have the CFS too and my ball flight is equivalent to the DG which I've played for many years.

The CFS shafts do seem to launch mid/mid-high for most.. Justin, by watching you swing I thought they were a little too soft for your swing. To each his own!

I'm looking forward to going back and trying them with a variety of shafts on a good-swing day. I really like the combination of forgiveness and minimal offset in the short irons!

in relation to my experience (on the monitor, range and course) i'd say so. i hit them a bit higher than i like to but i came from C Tapers to the CFS i20's so, there was going to be a difference. one thing i'd mention is that even though the CFS shafts seem a lot more whippy than i'd like (Stiff plays like Regular) and getting the ball up, the wind hasn't hurt them too bad

Ok Ive played 10 rounds with these and can honestly say for "me" they are terrible.
Ive never hit so many fat shots in my life. Maybe the sole is too large coming from players CBs, maybe it's in my head, I don't know.

I just don't like them - Thank God my AP2 712s are ready for pickup.

Hittingit...

That's a lot of play in the short time you've had them (less than 2 weeks) especially with your several rounds with the Mizuno's 69's and 712/AP2's in the mix as well. Wide soles and fat shots seem a bit odd, but I don't think you've been happy with the 20's since delivery. Maybe you're trying too hard...?

I think Im trying to hard to like them - Only bought them because I always wanted to try ping irons and the reviews on these are great so far.
Will be playing Ap2 712s for the entire 2012. Thanks for the reviews on the i20s and keep up with the great write-ups wrx.

I've been playing 20yr old Cobra Baffler Blades for the last 15 years (but only really played about 5 rounds the first 10 years - never had the time/focus, i had the clubs for playing at an occasional business event) and have always struggled with them - ultra inconsistent. I'm playing regularly these days and slowly improving (at the end of last summer I was shooting 85-90 every round) so I decided to pull the trigger on new irons that have been fitted for me.

Being a numbers geek I did a tonne of research and learned that the more data I gathered, the less I knew about the myriad of options so I just started hitting every club that looked reasonable. I tried AP1, AP2, RAZR X, JPX-800, JPX-800 Pro, S56, MP-69, CB2, and the CG16 Tour (which ended up my second choice - they are really great clubs). The I hit an i20 - game over. The i20s are unreal.

I got fitted with stock CFS shafts (regular flex, standard length) and white dot heads. The minute I had this configuration in my hands it was like I was playing a completely different sport. The trackman data was night and day between my old clubs: 20yrds longer and tighter dispersion. Un-freaking-believable clubs.

Order's placed - two weeks until they arrive!! :-)

Cheers;
DBC

PS - I tried the G20s as well with the exact same configuration but they performed noticeably worse for me. I'm not hung up on the look of the G20s like some people so I would have happily got them if they had been the right choice but the i20s were much better for me. The fitter says he sees this pretty regularly where the i20s produce better results even for higher handicappers like me.

After having these clubs for a month, I can't see how you could possibly hit a "fat" shot.

The sole design is intended to literally bounce it's way out of a fat shot. It's amazing that you could be hitting them fat.

Thin, I could see, but fat? That would require that you dig and to dig THAT deep with this sole design is incredible.

Just finished my three day demo of a full set of i20's with CFS stiff shafts. Hit about 400 balls on the driving range over Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Bottom line: The i20's are an outstanding set. For reference, I have MB2's, MP59's, A12 Pros and MP32's, and I just grabbed the i20's to demo for fun. I brought along the MB2's and A12's to compare.

Forgiveness: I am floored by how forgiving this set is. I was intentionally putting bad swings just to see the results and I don't know how Ping did it, but the forgiveness is unreal.

Distance: This set is pretty long. I was hitting outdoors, no monitors, but I think the i20's are just a touch longer than the A12's and MB2's on pured shots (perhaps a couple yards is all). On a shot that is just outside of the sweet spot, the i20's just don't lose much distance at all and the i20's mitigate distance loss better than the A12's and MB2's.. I don't care too much about distance. I just want consistent distance and the i20's are good in this regard. The offset is visually a bit much on the longer irons, but I decided to put it out of my mind and just swing. Man, the long irons in the i20's are really long and forgiving. I don't see any advantage of playing a 4 iron replacement hybrid with this set. The long irons are really easy to hit.

Turf Interaction: I am a very mild digger, take smaller divots. I was not really taking divots with the i20. I am thinking this is a result of the wider sole, but not sure. The quality of contact is good. I prefer the turf interaction of the MB2 and the A12 but I believe that is due to the narrower sole widths of the MB2 and A12. I would prefer a narrower sole on the i20, but I could easily learn to live with the wider sole of the i20's.

Accuracy: Very accurate. Nice and straight. My ball flight has a slight draw and I was hitting the slight draw with these with no problems.

Feel: Quite good. I used to play S58's and the i20's feel about as good as those. The feel is a bit less "pin point" if that makes sense. I can feel the precise point of impact a touch more clearly with the A12's. The MB2's have a much more precise feel but that is to be expected and is not a fair comparison.

Likelihood of Purchase: I am very close to ordering a set for fun. The MB2's are going to remain my gamers, but the A12 and i20's are really close. I MIGHT wait until the S55's come out this fall and try those before making a decision. I really don't need any more iron sets, but I have a soft spot for irons. I LOVE having multiple sets to switch around. I may give in and just get the i20's. I was a big fan of the zz65's in my S58's, and I think the CFS shafts are terrific. I normally play KBS Tour, but I could easily play the CFS shafts. They feel great and I love the ball flight (I am a high ball hitter) high but not too high.

Great job Ping! Now I see what all the fuss is about. Finally, not that it matters a ton, but the cavity of the i20's looks much, much better than the i5's, i10's and i15's. I thought the previous i series had pretty ugly badging, but the i20's look terrific.

Just finished my three day demo of a full set of i20's with CFS stiff shafts. Hit about 300 balls on the driving range over the weekend. The i20's are an outstanding set.

I was hitting outdoors, and I think the i20's are just a touch longer than the A12's and MB2's on pured shots (perhaps a couple yards is all). On a shot that is just outside of the sweet spot, the i20's just don't lose much distance at all.

Great review. Can you elaborate more on the CFS compared to the KBS?
