Your overall stats seem pretty good, so I guess it just depends on what part of your game needs the most help. For straighter drives, something like the Bridgestone e6 would be a good choice. I happen to be a huge Titleist ball fan, and I'm sure they have something that would suit your game. Most ball companies have online fitting tools, so you might check their websites and answer a few questions. The choices they give you would be a good starting point. Then pick up a few different sleeves and see what works best for you.

Good luck!

Round ones love it. I'm looking for straight distance. I'm not skilled enough for putting spin on the ball and I'm not yet accurate enough to hit the green off the drive. Really don't want to spend a ton on balls but usually when I lose one I find one.... So the bridge e6 or anything else u can recommend??? Thanks again.

I'm in the camp of selecting a ball by starting on the green and moving backwards towards the tee. How it performs and feels off your putter, chips, pitches, iron shots, and finally tee shots, is the order of importance, in my opinion (give or take a few minor switches). But for the OEMs, they usually market the tee shot/drive as the most important for obvious reasons...to sell more balls via distance claims.

I also believe in buying and playing the best ball you can for the money. As a beginner, regardless of swing speed, you might not yet be able to take full advantage of premium urethane-covered balls, but I would suggest you try a number of different balls and see what works best specifically for YOU. Feel is highly subjective, and also, confidence when you stand over your ball definitely has a factor too, especially given that this crazy game is just as mental as it is physical.

I would suggest buying a dozen of practice premium balls like the Titleist ProV1 or TaylorMade Penta or Black, which you can find for really cheap ($25 a dozen...see my golf ball deals post here: Premium Ball Deals Link). Or as an alternative, you can also go on lostgolfballs.com and order a bunch of different used golf balls on the lower end of the scale (AAA) for you to try really cheaply.

With that swing speed, you probably can put spin on the ball, but if you are using discount balls, you'd never know. I'd buy a few sleeves in different price/performance ranges and see what feels/works the best for you. I'd recommend looking into the NXT series of balls. Another tip for keeping cost down is to buy last years balls (eg the Cally Tour i(s) I play is usually $40-45/box, but is on sale for $29/box or 3 boxes for $80 at Golfsmith).

Dude, unless you are shooting low 80's the type of ball you play won't effect your score one bit. Look for some noodles, Laddies, V2 Gamers or other cheap ball and have fun. Can't believe how some people around here split hairs on stuff like this.

I don't think that's true. It can influence the score in a bad way.

As a 26 handicap, if I use a control ball, like the prov1, I'll put so much side spin on it that I'll never be able to drive straight. If I use a cheaper feel ball like the Nike Vapor one, every single drive will balloon on me. Besides all that, if I lose an expensive ball...well...it's expensive.

For all those reasons, I use the Wilson Smart-Core. It's long and straight. It's durable and will still be in good shape when you hit it in the lake. It's $20 for a box of 24. It's a 2-piece ball so you have to expect the roll when chipping from around the green. However, I have (not very often) been able to stop it on a dime with a full 5 iron shot.

Just as a side note....have you had any lessons? Easy to pick up bad habits when just starting out. Just something to think about. Anyway, like one post above mentioned....start from the green and work back. For me, not so much for the putting aspect, but for chip shots and shots from 100 yards and in. Whether a ball spins or doesn't spin won't mean squat if you can't hit the broad side of a barn. When you think your accuracy is pretty good, go to a more premium ball.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
