Identifying a "Ribbed" vs. "Round" NDMC grip

I know I asked this once before but for the life of me I cannot find the thread.......

 

Anyhow, I bought some NDMC's off the bay and can't remember how to identify "Ribbed" vs. "Round." I thought the "Round" version had the letter "R" on the inside of the grip towards the bottom collar, but I could be wrong.

 

Can anyone confirm? Thanks!

I cant confirm but if you pick one up you can feel the rib in the grip. sorry I can't be of more help.

If you look through the clubhead end of the grip towards the butt end while pointed at a bright light source you can see the rib inside. It will appear flat on the inside.

you can definitely feel the rib when you put it in your hands.

smoky has it right. The rib is clearly visible if you hold up the grip to a good light and look inside from the bottom toward the butt end of the grip. And the round grips have "R" on the inside of the bottom.

Pretty sure New decades don't come in ribbed. If you peel back the open end, it should say 58R, or 60R, or 58M stamped in the rubber. R stands for round, something else and you may have a ribbed.

edit.. only Red and Black come in ribbed. All other colors are round.

I'm a ribbed guy, and can I just say it sux how limited the options are. My only choice for cords are NDMC's in red or the Tour velvets.

R stands for ribbed but you're spot on otherwise.

actually much easier to look thru the tiny hole on the butt end and get all that light coming in the open end, and you see the entire length of the grip and the flat part, always opposite the logo by the way, will be very visible.

just sayin.

Thanks for the responses. They all have 60R on the inside and I can't see anything flat on the inside of the grip.....they have to be "round."

FWIW, I got an email response this morning from golf pride that said:

actually the ping ID-8 is available in ribbed in all sizes. I just switched to them.

I'd say 98% of the manufacturer grips out there are ribbed. Excluding like a t.v on a taylormade and prob a couple more but drawing a blank.

Think all Ping clubs come with ribbed grips. 20 years ago, most clubs came with those awful green/black GP Victory ribbed. However, think lately, most clubs are coming with round grips (GP Tour Velvet or some sort seems to be most popular). Also looking at latest Golfworks catalog, LOT more round grips than ribbed. Think 98% is way way off. Other than Ping, you pretty much have to specify ribbed grips as customer order with new clubs.

Back to original question, someone posted the correct answer, look for 60R/58R vs 60X/58X on inside of GP grips.

Was referring to the stock grips you would find off the shelf.
