Wish I was still in Texas. I miss my A&M days. Are you playing on the golf team? Have you picked a major? You should really enjoy College Station. You will not find a group of nicer people anywhere. Gig Em!

Im gonna probably attempt to walk on next year. It depends though, havent played much lately and Im not sure where my game really is. I have really enjoyed College Station so far. Its a great place. Major is aerospace engineering for now. Emphasis on the for now. It will probably be mechanical by the time I have to get serious about it.

I received my MS in Finance back in December of 2002. I always heard people say the standard you must be good at math. I am, but not engineering good. I wish you luck at A&M. You should really enjoy it there. Let me know if you need anything. I will be glad to help.

I live in Knoxville, TN now. I want to make it up that way some time this spring. I will give you a heads up when I go that way, so we can play golf. Also, I used to hit a bunch of balls at Lones Star Golf Academy on TX 6. If you have not found a pro there, Jim always helped me out. I know pros are a matter of taste and preference among players, but Jim always fit my mindset. LSGA is a good place locally to find golf buddies and upcoming tournaments.

To complicate matters during my A&M days, I had just graduated from the University of Tennessee. My first day in Aggieland, I wore a pair of Tennessee orange shorts outside. Walking to my truck, an elderly woman drove by in her Caddy - you the type that is just barely eye level with the steering wheel. To my amazement she feebly lifted her middle finder up and out at me and mouthed something I guessed was obscene. I knew then that College Station was going to be fun. My friend Jason whom I had just met, was standing next to me. He was a graduate of Tennessee Tech just about two hours west of Knoxville. He could not speak for a good five minutes.

I hit about 300 golf balls the first time I went to LSGA. My dorm had a resident appreciation week and one night was driving range night. I enjoyed hitting the range signs. Do they have many tournaments here? I would like to play in some to get back into competitive golf so I can play next year.

Check with the MSC and see if the TAMU Golf Club is still there. Its an organization that a group of us started during my last couple of years there. By no means is it on level with the official sports clubs that compete with other schools (we didn't), but it was a way for those of us that still enjoyed playing competitively sometime to get together every month or so and do just that, and there were some real good players that joined - and some not so good players :) . We had a "club championship" every semester somwhere out of town (Waterwood, ColoVista), some sort of outing monthly at a local course, and weekly meetings. Man, I miss those days. Good luck.

I don't know how the tournament schedule is now, but Jim Baetge at LSGA would be able to tell you alot about what is going on. When I was there, most of the A&M team members hit there. If Jim doesn't know something, he can get you to somebody who does. Also, I know he used to have a bunch more equipment accounts that he could order from. He just did not tend to stock most of it.

I would also fashion a guess that their would be a bunch of tournaments down the I-45 corridor, given the number of courses like Water Wood National (www.waterwoodnational.com) in the close proximity. The Waco are should have some tournaments also, given the quality course that Baylor has. I find it amusing that I just used quality, Baylor, and a sporting reference all in the same sentence.
