Ko'olau or Royal Hawaiian??

Which drains better?

Will be leaving for Oahu tomorrow!! Playing Turtle Bay Wednesday and 2 other courses Thursday. I'm hoping the weather improves, it looks decent for Wednesday and Thursday.

I know the storms have flooded the rain forest side by I'm really hopeful that I can play Ko'olau or Royal Hawaiian Thursday afternoon. I was wondering, does either of these courses drain better than the other?? I would love to play either but don't want to play if it's all mud.

I realize this is a six yr old topic, but decided that it makes sense to post, in case other visitors are looking to golf.

 

I *love* Luana Hills, I mean Royal Hawaiian. Even in the rain, it plays well. A fun and challenging course.

 

I've never played Ko`olau, even though I attend church there. The congregation has a golf club, and they choose to golf at Ewa Beach, rather than the club that I think is owned by the church. If I recall, members DO get a golf discount, so there has to be a reason why they don't play Ko`olau. I was told it could be that the course may be too difficult to be fun.

 

Anyhow, I do hope this post helps someone, should they happen to run into the same quandary about which to play. On a plus side, Royal Hawaiian is also near the trailhead for the Olomana hike, so if your family wants something to do while you go golfing, they can hike that trail.

I say play Royal Hawaiian, Ko'Olau is a beautiful course, but if it is wet you will lose your ball in the fairway, it has great Tee locations, blind ravines and drop-offs, Royal Hawaiian is more of a conventional course, almost links style..either one will give you a challenge.
