Am I the only one who understands that clubface's "die" and grooves wear to nothing?

With modern titanium face drivers - 3 year/120 round maximum
With modern irons (10 years or less) - 7 years
With modern wedges (10 years or less) - 3 rounds/100 round maximum

This is just my experience over the past 6 years.

I'm playing 15 year old cast irons that I bought used... I've put at least 200 rounds on them. The grooves are starting to wear, but I'm not positive it has any impact on my game... granted I'm looking to replace them. (I didn't play much between college and now)

I think the majority of people (especially on this forum) replace clubs well before they are worn out... but if you have the money, go for it, I guess.

I think irons can be the one wild card on my list, especially with limited play, such as yourself.

Agreed. Especially when they are cast and not forged.

I think your timeline on wedges and woods is probably accurate... I REALLY need to replace my wedges.

Just picked the game back up in the past year so my equipment is still the latest technology from 1995.

Original Big Bertha Driver, 3W, 5W. Mizuno Irons + wedges and some Tommy Armour putter.

Might be replacing them soon though, starting from Driver since that changed a lot.

Should I keep using the old driver as a 3W and the 3W as the 5W? ;)

Using the original Nike Pro Combo irons. Was still in high school when I got them, around 2004.

I'm also using a Scotty Cameron Duval which came out in '99 but I've had it only a few years.

While I don't disagree that materials wear over time, the useful life expectancy that you are quoting sounds as though it has been liberally spiced up by the marketing department. There may well be a "measurable" drop-off in performance, but for anyone less than a tour pro, I doubt that will be material to the useability of the club and how it will impact scoring with so many other variables at play. I've seen too many people play good golf with old kit to support your contention that clubs need to be replaced as often as you are suggesting.

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

Cleveland Steelhead Launcher 5-Wood with the original shaft. I love the club so much I just cant bring myself to drop it from the bag. I forgot my Cameron Pro Platinum putter I have had since I was in like 6th grade (1999 I think)... I've never played a putter that can top it in my mind. That is probably the oldest club in my bag.
