I have been playing around the state of Indiana over the last several weeks. I played Lost Marsh up in the region a few weeks ago. Its a great course especially if you've never been up that way.

We also played Sunrise Falls down in Madison this past weekend. This is a wonderful course.

Trophy club is an incredible course. IMO the toughest public course in the Indianapolis area. Links style prevailing wind is biggest defense. Lots of collection areas around the greens. Lots of water, bunkers and think rough. Great staff great price.

Played Southern Dunes (just S of Indy) Friday for the first time.  Nice layout designed by Gary Player... but not in great shape.  Did I mention it was managed by RN Thompson?

Not saying its a great course. But when I visit inlaws place in Plymouth, I do enjoy playing the Round Barn Golf Club in Rochester. Course is literally in middle of town, offers both tree lined and open holes. Usually in decent shape and challenging for a mid teens handicap. Staff is friendly, just a good vibe. Alot different than vibe in Chitown burbs. Also, did I mention cheap$$

Anyone played Trophy Club lately? What's the general opinion of it?

Played Trophy Club yesterday. Was in its usual solid shape except for the sand. Greens were firm, but heads up they are aerifying tomorrow (10/5).

Southern Dunes would be a great course if they spent more than $5 during the year to take care of it.

Pleasant Run GC in SE Indy is aerating today and tomorrow WITH sand so after a few mowings and rolls they should be healed pretty well by weeks end.

We played Prestwick CC yesterday.  It's a fun course with a lot of interesting holes.  The condition is not the greatest though they are working on it.  It was work to get the tee in the ground.  The fairways needed some watering bad.  But you could always find some grass nearby.  The bunkers were bad.  They were hard as heck and had some pebbles/rocks in them.  We didn't not play out of them at all.  The greens weren't awful. But most of them had some dead spots.  I'd love to play the course again in prime condition.

I played Sultans Run in Jasper on Saturday and it was in really good shape.  The only down side is that they have punched the greens and they are still pretty sandy.  Even with the greens like they were  it was still worth the drive down from Indy.  Maybe it’s because of the drive but I’m surprised I’ve not heard more people talking about it.

+1 on Sultans Run... and some Schnitzelbank afterwards!

Played Meshingomesia in Marion on Tuesday.  Bunkers on back still need some attention but I'm guessing they'll be playable next year.  If you can play the Chief, you can play anywhere.  Tough, undulating track.  I love it.

15 of us played with most coming up from Indy for the first time.  They loved it and wanted to come back next year.

There's a few of us sitting around on the porch afterwards where we were joined by Jim Gallagher, Sr, patriarch of Jim Jr , Jeff and Jackie Gallagher.  All pro tour players.  GREAT guy.

Some of the guys in our group were past PGA assistants at courses throughout Indiana so the stories and anecdotes told by these guys and Sr were absolutely epic.  Could have been an hour special on TGC.  Super good time.

Playing the Fort with my BIL tomorrow.  How's it looking?

Pretty much every RN Thompson course budget. On a side note I played The Players Club in Yorktown a couple weeks ago and it was in really good shape.

Played The Fort yesterday in the wind.  Brutal.

Paid $69 and most of the greens had been aerated with only a portion of those being sanded.

I'd pass on The Fort for a while.

Also, they're adding an auto 18% tip on your CC at the snack bar.  Not cool, even though I typically add 20%.  Another Covid extortion.

Thanks for the heads up.  I was thinking of getting a group together to go there.

What courses do you guys like to play in the fall? Leaves can make for a good deal of headache on the course, and it looks like we’re going to start dealing with that problem here in the next few weeks. Hickory stick in bargersville is a solid course for fall golf I’ve found so far. Legends in Franklin was pretty good too.

Played Harbor Links S of Liberty yesterday.  Greens were great with no brown spots.

Course was in as good a shape as I've seen it but yesterday was the last open day for 2020.

Aerating starts today.

Love that course.

(a year later)

Played Sandy Pines up in Demotte yesterday.  Great course and only $30 because they punched a week or so ago.  Didn't bother me.

Had played it a few years ago and apparently they've changed the layout some.  Enjoyed it.

Look forward to playing it again next year, if I can.

5 seconds... searched Indiana Sandy Pines... I'm barely smarter than I look.

Didn't seem appropriate to post in the Indy Chili Dippers thread.

Reviving this thread in hope of some suggestions and advice.  I"ve planned a 16 person buddies trip for years.  All our guys coming from Metro Detroit.  I'd love some comments on the following for a four day swing in June:

Option 1:

Day 1 Travel day and play Rock Hollow on way down, stay in West Lafayette an hour away.

Day 2: 36 holes at the Purdue courses

Day 3: Wake up early and drive two hours to play ND Warren course and stay in south bend.

Day 4: head home (3 hour drive)

This option would have two nights in West Lafayette and one night in South Bend.

Option 2:

Day 1 Travel day and play Rock Hollow on way down, stay in West Lafayette an hour away.

Day 2: 36 holes at the Purdue courses

Day 3: 18 holes at Coyote Crossing or Harrison hills

Day 4: head home (5 hour drive)

This option would be a little less in-between travel (all 3 nights in West Lafayette).

I welcome any critiques/suggestions/thoughts.  I'm really wondering if Warren is worth making a special trip for or if Coyote or Harrison are similar in quality.  I'd also love to hear about lodging options/opinions.

Always love seeing this old thread bumped. I don't post much here anymore. I've never played CCI but its on my short list of ones I'd LOVE to play.
