Titleist 585H

Recommended Posts

Had this club for about 3 years now and love it. 18 with rifle 5.5. I have a driver swing speed of about 118 and thought the 5.5 would be too soft but it actually fits very well. I can swing easier and get a good pop and still get enough accuracy from the steel.

This club is great. Minimal offset and no frills really. Very basic hybrid from the early days. I haven't found a better one for myself yet but would like to try the Adams.

Trajectory and distance, those are largely shaft related issues. I do find it to be more of a players club, not too forgiving. Good distance and good control. Ball doesn't balloon and the club does allow me to work it a bit.

Overall 4.5/5.0.

ah3000 - what shafts do you play in your irons? was thinking of rifle for my 17 585h. have s300 in my irons and 21 degree 585h but need a little more height in the 17. Did you use hybrid specific rifle or an iron shaft?

Thx

I had this club originally with an X-100 steel shaft in it and fell in love with it. It had a beautiful penetrating ball flight of the tee and was fairly easy to get out of the rough. But one day I decided to reshaft it with an Aldila NV 85 Stiff hybrid shaft to pursue more accuracy and now I can't hit this thing at all straight for the past year. I don't know if it was bad shaft combo for me or what, but it totally made me lose all confidence in the club and made me loath it. So I just sold it on Ebay for $50 and picked up a like new Adams Idea Pro Tour Prototype for $60.

The x100 shaft would have been more accurate, the aldila shaft would just have added distance! Anyways, I picked mine up for 36 bucks and it remains the best deal in my bag. Outperforms any other hybrid I have tried, and they have all been $100+. For the money, you absolutely cannot go wrong. Mine is shafted with the proforce v2 100x, which I think helps tremendously with keeping it from ballooning. From what I have heard, a low trajectory, low spin shaft combo is best for this head.

Hey All,

I know this is an older thread but I wanted to post a more 'modern' 2013 review.

Like others here, I have struggled with standard hybrids. The miss was always a horrendous hook, which was polar opposite my usual long iron miss, a gentle fade (far less penal than a swinging hook).

So I lost confidence in it and it sat at the back of my bag, only to be used for scrambles and perfect shot conditions.

Fast forward to 2013. I've tried the Cobra DWS, the Adams Idea Pro (went straight but felt 'dead' to me) and an Adams Idea Super Hybrid. None matched my misses with my other clubs, which is what I was really after.........until I found this thread after google searching for hybrids where the reviews specifically said the miss wasn't a sweeping hook.

Found a used 17* 585H with an NV stiff shaft and have taken it for some test spins. Fantastic club and extremely difficult to hook. Even when I put a handsy quick turn on the club it still stays in 'strong draw' territory instead of hooking.

So if you're on a budget and looking for a hybrid that is tough to hook, I recommend this one.

If you have a little more money, the Mizzuno MP-650 is the modern and probably hotter version of this stick.

Even though it doesn't have that 'hot' jump off the club, I'm still putting this one out there anywhere between 205 and 225 yards, usually dead nuts straight which is perfect for getting off the tee on those extremely tight 360 yard par 4's we all encounter from time to time.

Great club and thanks to all of you who suggested it for the non-hook bias!
