My Swing

Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated
Any comments on my swing would be greatly appreciated!

A bit about me:

I finished last season at a 2hc, and I enjoy working the ball both ways. My miss is a block (high push fade off the planet). I feel that the main contributor to my higher than par rounds are the couple of wayward shots I would have during that round. I play a 44.25" driver, and am able to achieve more than adequate distance with it - consistency is key for me moving forward. The swings below produced small draws.

I'll let others make fun of the hat...lol.

You are going to hear early extension and sway off the ball.

On the backswing, you need more hip turn and less lateral hip and upper body movement away from the target which will help...Your hips are not making enough of a lateral move to shift the weight to the left side on the downswing.

You really need to get your right shoulder stretching away from your spine to the ball. Watch how scrunched it is at impact.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

The problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.

One of the biggest issues with most amateur golfer is lack of strengh in the gluteus and hamstring and lack of flexibility of the hips. Most people spend most of their day sitting down which shortens and tightens your hip flexor and limits your ability to separate your upper body from your lower. Take a look at your tush on the DTL swing at address and then at impact. Notice how much closer to the ball your are at impact. Take a look a swings from Luke Donald and notice the difference between his transition from the top of his swing into impact specifically his hips and leg moment and yours. I would recommend working on stretching your hips and strengthening your gluteus and hamstring and flexibility in your hips. you can find some great exercises online. Try mytpi.com

Great drill is to set your bag up behind you so your butt is touching it at address and take a swing. Focus on keeping your behind in contact with the bag throughout your whole swing. start with half shots and work your way to a full swing.

Haha, yeah... the hat... I'll leave it alone too.

Yes. I think I mostly agree with you. More extension and a bit more hip turn in the backswing will make getting the weight back to the left side much more feasible. It looks like he's getting stuck through the hitting area, a good weight shift back to the left will only compound the problem. There's SOOO little arc to release the hands that the only chance of hitting it is to stay back and flip at it. Fixing the first issue will allow him to more effectively move the weight back to the left. Maybe that's what you were getting at????

Anyway, OP... YES- get that club away from you on the back swing and keep turning.. your hands need to be able to get much higher than they are now... Its hard to describe just how close you are to being in a great position at the top. I don't like to preach the left arm straight because that shouldn't be forced, it should be the result of a strong, flexible, athletic backswing. Honestly, yours just looks plain lazy. Your hands need to be on a wider arc and farther away from your chest and your left arm should be fully extended and ideally; considerably higher. This will give you much more space to release the club through impact allowing you to fully shift back to the left side.

We can't all be Dustin Johnson, but look where he gets his hands at the top.

Thank you all for your insight. Definitely a few suggestions here to digest. This is a swing that was built solely from feel over the years - I think it's time to focus on a couple of the mechanics you spoke of above.

Haha as for the hat, can you blame a guy for wearing a toque - that's what we call em up here ;) - over his ball cap when the range sessions are being interrupted by snow flurries?
